Some of us can still remember the Unipart advert: 'the answer's "yes" - now what's the question?'!
Can anyone tell me whether Unipart service items - plugs, filters etc. - are of reasonable quality? Are they OE manufacturer's re-badged parts, or made specifically to Unipart's specs?
I'm not even sure if the brand exists anymore, but parts come up fairly frequently on a certain internet auction site.......

The usual answer was it might be any of 3 versions and we might be able to get one by next Tuesday. Sir.
Ultimate insult was that a clutch thrust release bearing was not available any more.
This was for an 18 month old Mini.

new unipart plugs are made by ngk
as i understand it unipart are part of brown brothers or brown brothers are unipart, anyway i would trust unipart parts ,however why would genuine unipart parts appear on an internet website? this is the more pertinent question

Hi BB - as Unipart have been around many years, 'new old stock' parts frequently appear on Ebay.
I guess the Unipart livery does not look that inspiring - a bit Tesco 'value'-ish.

Hi,
First of all, Unipart does still exist - I've been working for them for the last 13 years!! If you go into any Partco/ Brown Bros/ Serck Services branch then parts will be from Unipart. We have a massive warehouse here in Oxford containing many thousands of parts - all high quality and many as used by OE at a fraction of the cost. As a guide, Unipart is Valeo's largest customer and the company is listed as one of the top 100 best in the UK. Turn over last year was over a billion £. You may not know that Unipart also does the warehousing for Halfords, Homebase, vodafone and Jessops to name a few.
So, you can buy with confidence and with a cast iron guarantee.
Any more info you want regarding Unipart - please ask
p.s. We also sell Truck, Bus and Trailer parts and are the UK's largest aftermarket parts supplier with over 9000 parts in stock (the div where I work)

Thanks, Robin the T, for a definitive answer!

Hi Robin,
Whereabouts in Oxford are they based now? A mate of mine worked in the factory on the Woodstock Road 10yrs or so ago making fuel tanks, but from what I can see of it, it's been demolished and there's houses on it now.
Cheers

Dynamic dave is correct.
We are to the back of BMW (formerly Rover - where I worked for 15 years). It's been here since the early 70's when it was owned by BL. Uniparts portfolio of customers is pretty impressive - we do all the parts for Jaguar to name but one. The company has diversed from being just a sole supplier of car part to a multi talented very successful business. I won't rub salt in the wound by bragging about our on site gym.
For those who don't know, there IS more to Oxford other than the colleges and inspector Morse memorabilia!!!

yes it has a wetherspoons "The William Morris" but it must be oxfords best kept secret because ive never found it :-(
|
Wetherspoons is about half a mile away from Unipart in cowley. Its at the front of Templars square (formerly Cowley Centre) opposite the John Allen Centre (Ah... I remember them building cranes there...). Good cheap food and a reasonable atmosphere. Remember to take your Polish translation book though..

Ah, now that is *really* interesting, thanks for responding.
A question for you, which has been troubling me for a while. I'm a fussy Honda owner (is there some other kind?) who has been slightly put-off using National Tyre's oil change service because they use Unipart flters and I always use genuine Honda ones.
Now the Honda filter is (I'm pretty sure) made by Valeo so, by any chance, is the Unipart one the same thing? And if not, is it any good as an alternative?
|
Hi,
Not 100% sure but I believe it will probably be a federal Mogul one - (Fram) probably the worlds largest (they make champion plugs). Surprisingly there aren't that many filter manufacturers on the planet and those of any size generally produce reasonable product.
Unipart filters are good value for money and top quality - they have to be otherwise we wouldn't sell hundreds of thousands a year.
