Leaky Ford Focus - LeoMarquez
Hello - I'm new to this forum, and I joined to see if anyone can help me with my Focus REAR passenger footwell leak. I've had a leak into the front passenger footwell which was fixed by replacing the pollen filter thingy, but now the rain is getting into the REAR off-side passenger footwell and I can't see where it can be coming in. I've sat in the car for a while and felt all around but to no avail. Short of pulling up all the carpets, does anyone have a clue what I can do about it? All the door and window seals look OK - the drain holes in the bottom of the doors are all un-blocked and it is not getting into the front passenger footwell, which I guess rules out the pollen filter thing.

I'm SO cheesed off with this car leak that I will NEVER EVER again buy another Ford. I had a ford Escort which leaked in the boot, a ford Granada before that which also leaked in the boot and now this piece of junk!

Any suggestions would be appreciated!!

Kind regards.

Leo

Short of pulling up all the carpets ..........

If the carpets are wet you'll probably need to remove them to allow them to dry anyway.

if it was my car i would get the hose pipe out get someone to sit in the car and see if you can see where it come in, if its not coming in that way i would allso make sure the rear wash wipe pipe is not leaking when you use it, i had a leaky pipe on a car once and it was coming into the car that way, hope this helps

Perhaps I should mention that it only leaks when the car is parked up and it's raining - it never seems to leak when I'm driving! I would park it in the garage, but my daughter's stored her household goods in there until she can move into her house - so I'm stuck out in the rain with a hocus-pocus Ford flipping Focus!

Try taping newspaper all round the inside of the front & rear & hatch doors before it rains. This will help you detect where the leak is coming from. Also check that water isn't able to come in between the front and rear door and run down the middle column. You'll need to get those wet carpets up, dried and freshened up, otherwise you'll have an awful smell awaiting for you one day. Focus's are not noted for leaking, sounds like you're very unfortunate with cars leaking.

It's worth checking for water ingress through the rear light seals as well.

This is a well known water entry point on some Fords.

If your car is a mk 2 focus (05 on) there is a fault with rear hatch hinge sealing which causes a leak on some cars. dealers are aware of this fault, (or should be).

If the plastic weather seal (sheet of polythene)behind the door trim is damaged water will run between the seal and trim dop onto the inner sill and run onto the carpet, allthough this is a mondeo common problem it seems to occur quite regulary on the focus. The cure is to remove the trim and fit a new seal with liberal amounts of silocon or tape a small sheet of plastic under the door and direct the water outside as opposed to letting it inside.

Thanks for this suggestion - I've tried to get the door trim off, but got stuck at the window-winder handle - how do I get that off please?!
