WipeOut

Hi,

I am looking to buy a new car, and regular have to drive in to London. There is a proposal for a change to the CC for cars producing 120gkm CO2 or less. Does any body know when or if a decision will be made on the below?

From CC site ------

PROPOSALS WILL BE SUBJECT TO PUBLIC AND STAKEHOLDER CONSULTATION PRIOR TO ANY CHANGES BEING CONFIRMED BY THE MAYOR:

The Mayor has announced that he would like to take forward the policy of reducing London?s Carbon Dioxide (CO2) emissions by introducing Emissions Influenced Charging to the London Congestion Charging Scheme. The Mayor is very concerned about the major challenge of climate change and these proposals aim to discourage the use of the most polluting cars and influence car purchasing behaviour.

The proposed Congestion Charging bands are as follows:

Cars which emit up to 120g/km CO2 and are Euro IV (Equivalent to VED Bands A & B) - 100% discount.

I'm waiting for a definite decision on this too, having replaced my car with one that produces only 120 g CO2/km, for exactly the same reason!

I chose a C4 HDI with the EGS. Which I am enjoying! A trip round the M25 yesterday saw me average 60mpg.

I have a W reg polo which has been without heating since november (I have been putting off doing anything that's not totally essential until I get job with this fantastic MSc that will supposedly make me a desirable employee). Anyway, I wondered if there were any suggestions of what it could be and how much it will set me back? I don't appear to have any leaks anywhere that I can find and I don't think it's the dial. The blower itself currently only works on two settings it seems to manage luke warm but never seems to run particularly cold or warm. Is there a possibility this could be related to electrics as I think mine are a bit dodgy?

I'm sick of getting ripped off or being partonised, it would appear that being a young, female who's not a mechanic equals big bucks to the garage! I am genuinely interested in learning to do bits and bobs myself though suspect this is one for the experts. All the same I would appreciate some input if anyone's had simialr problems or has a diagnosis!
cheers :) Read more

Bit of a techy question, Im running a 2.0 16v peugeot engine (gti6) but it has been restroked to 2.1 litre and the cam has been reground for longer duration on the inlet side. The cam should be set to 2.66mm lift at TDC however when I checked the valve to piston clearance at TDC I get it at 2.1mm, this is before the valves have been lapped in and also before the head is fully torqued down, I still need to torque it a further 160 degrees.
Im wondering just how much lift at TDC can safely run with as I am looking for peak power from the engine with the current set up. Read more

try www.205gtidrivers.com also or speak to a decent engine builder with experience of this engine ie DES developments, Hi-FLow Head, QEP etc

I've got a 98 Megane 1.6e RT Sport, done 87,000 miles. On Monday was trying to drive to Sheffield from Manchester during the very heavy rains. Was driving through 2-3" of water on a flooded section of road. An HGV came the other way, and passed through the water at about 30mph. The resulting wave went over the roof of my car (and the cars in front and behind), rocking the car on its suspension. The engine continued running and I was able to continue driving. Steam came out of the bonnet for several minutes afterwards, but the temperature gauge stayed at normal.

Since then it has been very difficult to get the car into gear, especially 1st and 2nd - it can take 5-6 attempts of trying to put it into gear, lifting the clutch, depressing the clutch and trying again to get the car into gear. The other gears are also affected, but will usually go into gear at the 2nd attempt. Once in gear, the car drives normally, and all the electronics are working fine.

Given the age of the car, I don't think it's worth doing anything major, but I could spend a few hundred if it'd sort out the gearbox. Is the gearbox likely to continue to detoriate? Is there anything that can be done?

As a follow on from my thread on Honda CRV which I said I was going to look at I have decided I do not like them.
I am now of the opinion, after looking at VW Sharran that an MPV would replace my Civic Aerodeck estate car and give me ther extra space that I need.
There are many on the market so I am looking for advice on what to go for and what to avoid. One governing factor in my choice is that it must have a sunroof.

Hi, in answer to TVM and Bobbygee.

I need a sunroof because apart from my first car way back in 1969 I have always owned cars that have them fitted as standard and driving without a sunroof I find claustrophobic. I have never had a leaking or noisy sunroof or one that has gone wrong apart from one that had to have a slight adjustment.

I do not need 7 seats, it is the space I am more intertested in to carry my two Cavalier King Charles spaniel dogs with the possibility of a third on the way and in the VW Sharran for example I would have the back two permanently removed.

I accept that I am narrowing my choice by specifying a sunroof and diesel fuel. I liked the Honda FRV but disappointingly no option for a sunroof .
The Mazda 5 is nice but again no sunroof option but I am going to look at the Mazda 6 estate this weekend.

I'm looking to lease or contract hire a small van,like a Berlingo/Partner/Combi.

Ideally,it must have unlimited mileage with it,as it could well rack up galactic mileage in about 2-3 years.

Anyone got any people to contact in my search?

Websites with deal calculators would be ideal. Read more

I'm getting a Suzuki Ignis (1.3 GL 5-dr) 06 plate with 6500 miles for £5000 from Suzuki dealer.

The test drive was fine, like the driving and the car. Looks quite practical too. Especially I like the high driving position.

But looks like very few people actually own it (wondering why?)

I have googled some reviews on the internet, apart from low resale value no one said the car is bad in anyway. Also got 35th out of 152th position in Top Gear survey.

The feature seems good at this price. Interior is bit basic but I didn't expect much at this price.

My main concern is how reliable the car will be. I rarely do over 80 mph on motorways, so not too worried about high speed performance. Read more

a friend has one of these and finds that the two electric radiator fans don't work on low speed - high speed setting is ok. Anyone any experience of these? all normal checks ok, fuses, connections etc - doesn't look like much room for manoeuvre under that bonnet. Read more
