Same sort of thing at Jnc 3 on M54 - yesterday as we went past we thought it was some roadworks lights - -was a yellow box with a single pole overlooking carriage way - on way back I slowed for a good look and they were cameras - been down today and now there are two in each direction - one for each lane east and west - so be careful - no idea what sort of cameras though

It's a new system that notes plates of English drivers so that if they are found to be going into Wales too often they can be sent a warning letter advising them of the clear risks they face of crossing the border too often. ;-)

More than likely mobile ANPR. Big tax evasion purge on in Wales at the moment from what my contacts oop north tell me.

This is what I was thinking, they were just two separate tripods, with a device which had 2 black rectangles on either side of the bit in the centre. I didnt get a great look, but it didn't look like a camera to me.

Quite right too. (I'm Welsh BTW)

I have seen a DVLA liveried van with external cameras on tripods, (one for each lane?), and a sign saying "Vehicle Excise Duty checkpoint" or similar, on a commuter route dual carrigeway into Edinburgh.
Anyone know what the ANPR cameras that check vehicles crossing the Forth Road Bridge are for?

I heard they were being installed at "choke points" the local paper mentioned they wanted to install them on the Humber Bridge as well.
