Hello

A family member of mine will be going to a small claims court soon because of a RTC they were involved in.

What are happens in a small claims court do they have to tell the court what happened then the other party has to say there story?

Who decides who is guilty.

But don't get hung up on remembering the Sir/Madam for the judge. I've never met one who would have held it against a layman who forgot.

They're much more concerned with proper respect for the court and the other side.

Ashok: what about 99.89%? j/k.

"The magazine reports instant 0.8 G acceleration"
"This one can go at around 400 kph, accelerate up to 60 mph in 4 seconds (that's faster than a Porsche 911) and touch 100 mph in 7 seconds."

AutoExpress covered this in 2004... so it's already disappeared. I guess 8 wheels because they wanted to use 8 x 100bhp motors.

My relatively little-used Fiamm horns have expired... can anyone recommend a good, but not too expensive, replacement, please? Read more

SWMBO's motorcycle instructor had a pair of horns liberated from a scrapyard ambulance on his Kawasaki Zephyr. They were wired up to blow simultaneously rather than alternately as on the ambulance.

It was painful!! Very cool, but painful!

Whilst having the warranty work done on my Meriva, i noticed a dealers offer to fit an ipod kit to the car.

I don't have an ipod, but a different mp3, so need a 3.5mm jack input. Reading through the manual for the radio (Car 2005) it seems to have an input, for a mobiel phone or sat nav, which the4 radio will switch to when it senses an input signal.

Can I use this ? I assume its a glovebox out job and have alook round the back ? And will it be a 3.5mm jack (a la the s-max) is some bespoke connector ?

Your thoughts please....... Read more

Bearing in mind the amount we pay to use, and the service we receive, with regard to our roads, I have decided to report ANY defects I encounter. Most local authorities will have a way of doing this online, and with mine you get a reference number, so you can check ?progress? with said defect.

I think more of us should be doing this, as the state of our roads isn't all it should be and we certainly pay enough in taxes.

I add the following to the remarks or additional information section when I submit the report:

I hope you find this report of a defect on our roads helpful. Were it not for the high levels of taxation motorists face today I would perhaps let it go. Unfortunately motorists pay extortionate tax on the fuel we use. Additionally we are hit with revenue raising measures, such as speed cameras and suspension-damaging 'traffic calming' speed bumps, etc. So I consider it reasonable to report ANY defects I encounter. If you run out of money trying to maintain our roads, write to the Chancellor of the Exchequer.

Please bear in mind that should the area I have reported be in the vicinity of a road traffic accident, any insurers involved will be able to discover this report and may sue the local authority for damages resulting from a lack of maintenance.

In Nottingham, both the county-wide and city council reporting pages have given errors upon painstakingly typing it all out and submitting it! Useless.

My 56 plate Avensis was recently involved in its second accident, when a bus pulled into it my stationary car. The damage done was along the lines of:
- badly scraped and bent bumper
- wing lightly scratched and pushed out of shape, closing the panel gaps with both the bonnet and front door
- headlight pushed well out of alignment, upwards and inwards
- scuffed alloy

Picked the car up from the bodyshop today, and noticed that the alignment of bumper/wing/headlight is very poor - noticable gaps (3-5mm) compared with the other side (which was all renewed after the first accident 8 wks ago!). The bodyshop has agreed that it is not right and I have booked it in for remedial work next week.

My potential gripe is that all parts were repaired, nothing is new. I'm very surprised the bumper could be salvaged, and I also think the wing was probably too misshapen to repair, hence the huge gaps now present.

Two questions for the back roomers:

- do I have any kind of right to insist (via the insurance company) that new parts are used, due to the relative newness of the car?

- if yes would I be better off doing so rather than allowing the bodyshop another chance to fix the current parts? Read more

i cant say who why or where but a certain insurer is now insisting that
for some repairs s/h parts are to be used

Cheers for the info bell boy. I've had a better look over it today and the repair is simply hopeless. The driver's side was repaired (new parts) by a different bodyshop a couple of months ago and I honestly couldn't tell it from the original factory fit and finish. This new repair (passenger side) has inconsistent gaps all around it, a finger sized gap twixt foglight and bumper, headlight completely mis-fitting with bumper and wing...I could go on, lol. It's a really useless job that I am amazed they feel comfortable releasing.

I see the Dept. of Transport have, yet again, stated the bleedin' obvious. Namely that those little plastic electric G Whizz cars might be less safe than other cars in a crash. Well I never!?!! I think I could lift one with my little finger - and I dread to think what they must be like to drive - come on HJ, where's the test??

They are classed as quadracylcles (4-wheel bikes) as long as they are less than a certain weight (without batteries) - hence their light build - hence their poor crash safety. But as they are now seen as an alternative to cars, especially in London, the DoT thinks they might have to meet car crash test standards. If this happens this will surely be the end of them, and similar French Axiam 'cars'?

Apparently TG crash-tested one and it "disintegrated" on impact! Read more

Another unappreciated British invention!

I now work on the site of the old Enfield factory. There were one or two on the roads here in the 70's and they went rather well. In fact (in a former life) I once X-rayed a fitter from Enfield's who had connected the wires at the wrong moment and run himself over...

What is the law regarding juniors in the front seat?
I am presuming the height and booster seat law applies but is there an age limit that prohibits kids under a certain age from sitting in the front?

We have been talking with neighbours about lift sharing for nursery and it is an unanswered question.
