Just listened to him on R4's Front Row, talking about music in cars. Very much the James May of old, articulate, intelligent and erudite, at last he escapes the caricature of himself as shown on Top Gear. Worth a listen to on BBC's "Listen Again" site. Read more

As it happens, Nicole was a nanny for the Walker family in australia in 1982/3. Rob was living there then, and Stirling Moss was a frequent visitor.

Just got my insurance renewal notice. They want £379 to insure my C5 fully comp with protected NCB.
However, within that price, the cost of protecting my NCB is £51 !
I have been paying this sort of sum for many years to give me the protection, but have never got any benefit from it as i've never claimed.
Any thoughts on whether or not its worth paying out a significant %age of the price just to protect the NCB?
Cheers

Ive got business use too....and live in a city. The car is only 4 months old. I didnt think £333 was too bad?
cheddar,
We all know that Mrs cheddar's car was speeding. We all know it was either Mrs cheddar or yourself driving at the time. What's hers is yours and vice versa. Just get her to NOMINATE a driver so that the powers that be can get it over and done with and get on with the next case.
It's only a speeding offence, not murder.

Well, okay, what camera is certified for use at such a short distance?
hi all, having a brain block with the wording of the thread. anyway i recieved a package in the post of a mate of mine. basically im using my c max as a recce/service vehicle for a rally team. they pay well! so ive upgraded the discs, pads, springs, dampers on order and ive just ordered some braided hoses from germany. im making some under floor guards too. anyway back to the package> in it was a black box which when plumbed into the fuelling/ecu harness apparently adds 20 bhp and around 50 nm of torque. anyone had any mod like this fitted to their diesel motors? how does it go? Yes I have one on my car and my particular one works very well: www.tuningbox.com/index.php . Does this one you have have a brand name on it? There are many reputable manufacturers but also some cheap stuff on eBay which I personally would be less inclined to trust (not that I'm an expert on them).
Beware of excessive black smoke under hard acceleration due to overfuelling. Before I got mine I read somewhere that for track-day use someone was getting, in their words, "unacceptably high" exhaust gas temperatures due to this, but I only use mine on road and do not thrash it so I'm not concerned. The advice was to at least fit a K&N type replacement panel filter to improve breathing, and with one fitted I get very little smoke from mine.
That problem was on pre- common rail engines so I don't know if this is still an issue on more modern applications?
Not as good as a rolling road remap which is tailored to your individual cars engine rather than having a generic map, but if you got it for a reasonable price then its worth a go isnt it (if you're satisfied its a decent one)?
Good afternoon all.
I have 'won' a 99 Rover 214 on ebay today and am going to collect later.
Does anyone have any tips that they can offer on this car, common issues.. Ive never bought one from Ebay before - any tips would be great !
Thanks Read more
We owned a 214 for 5 years (infact still do but its unsued in the garage now!). In that time and some 75,000 miles all that was done was the head gasket caused by a leaky radiator. All of the above is sound advice and any loss in coolant needs to be found and fixed.
Ours is on 120,000 miles now and the engine was/is fine before it was garaged, gearbox and clutch original as was everything else on the car other than 1 exhaust and tyres/brakes etc!
Very reliable cars despite potential HGF, although this in itself is fairly cheap to fix if caught early enough and combined with a cambelt change.
Hello,
Does anyone know if an Ibiza FR 130Tdi has a "proper" MP3 plug-in, or is it just that the disc player is compatible with burned off MP3 discs?
I am debating whether or not to buy a new FM transmitter (broke the last one) for my i-Pod and I won't bother if my Ibiza which arrives in 2 weeks has a proper plug in.
Cheers!

Try this simple test: If you are in a queue at a pinch point where
two lanes funnel into one how do you react?
Do you >>
Depends, however what we should do is use both lanes up to the pinch point and merge in turn, the ensures that the road capacity is utilised and the jam does not impact unduly further back up the road.
would be interesting to know geographically where the increase in cyclist fatalities occured. Just wondering whether it is tied to, in particular, increased cycling in London due to Congestion Charging.

58% do not know the maximum penalty, by UK law, for driving with tread depth below the legal limit.
I had another thought after writing my first post on this: the maximum penalty for driving on substandard tyres has nothing to do with UK law.
