Hi guys, need some advice...
My 2006 E-Class was involved in an accident - cost of repair approx 5/6k. however since then it has come to light that the chassis is bent and needs a jig to re-allign. as the car is worth 27k market value the insurers wont right it off. Becuase the chassis is bent would that mean an automatic cat d and should it be written off? should I be concerned that it will be re-alligned? Read more
... got to say though its still not clear cut and unless ..
spot on, bell-boy.
as the scottish judge said:
"....Sheriff Principal Macphail went on to quote from the English case Payton v Brooks where Lord Justice Roskill stated:
'I would only add one word of caution. This conclusion is not a charter under which infuriated plaintiffs, who have the misfortune to have their cars damaged by careless drivers, acquire an unfettered right to recover diminution in value in every case in addition to the cost of repairs. It is essential in such a case, in my judgment, for appropriate evidence to be called to prove diminution in value. I do not think that in the ordinary case the burden of proof which rests on the plaintiff would be discharged merely by calling an individual to prove his idiosyncratic view of the particular loss in a particular case. The diminution in market value must be proved by appropriate evidence of the kind usually called when diminution in market value is sought to be proved as a head of damage. Subject to that qualification, it seems to me that this head of damage is recoverable.'

Hi all,
My dad is to sell his two beloved cars due to company car arrival
They are
1. Audi A4 1.8 'P' Reg 122K miles
This car is Bergundy Red, VGC bodywork wise. Has the odd stone chip and parking dent but nothing noticble to the eye. Front bumper has a several small paint peels about size of a penny. Started to clunk on eneven roads lately, he said it might need a new suspensoin part, not sure which one might be a shock absorber. Saying that it is not too bad and on smooth roads it isd fine, It is a nice car to drive. MOT'd and taxed till late 07. Quiet and fairly nippy. Has standard 15" 8 spoke alloys in which are clean and have minimal damage. Airbag light stays on, been told it is a control unit behing the steering wheel, bought the part but not fitted it, will include with car.
We are looking to factor the suspension part and paint peels in the price or a reserve on Ebay.
2. Toyota Corolla 2.0D XL 'L Reg' 112K miles
This car is silver and owned from new (14 Years). Used to be main car until audi arrived so has done less than 4-5K per year. Has a good run every so often, doesnt smoke like some old diesels. No major bodywork problems, no rust. Engine superb, I wuldnt say it was a quiet engine, but is relaible and rock solid. Steel wheels are rusty, but not a major problem. Thats the only thing thats lets the cars appearance down. Rides nice, very quick for power it has got 75HP non turbo
All cars have had regular oil, filter and checks done half yearly.
Any guess are appreciated Read more

I have a 98 Honda Civic with 80k, it is dealer maintained on time every time. I don't have break down cover. Should I? My theory is I bought a good car and take good care of it. I have never broke down in 16 years of driving, but is my luck going to run out?
One other theory I have is that by not having cover has saved me 16 annual subscriptions so if they charge £800 to tow me home I'm still in pocket. The car will be changed when it become troublesome (baring premium bond jackpots!)
Any suggestions gratefully received. Read more
IMO there are 2 reasons for tow home breakdown cover.
1) To recover the cer
2) To ensure the cars contents and passengers get home safely.
If I knew I could get home safely and cheaply along with contents and other pasengers, then when driving a car that is worth little than a comprehensive breakdown cover premium, I wouldn't bother.
I would simply return home and contact the nearest local car breaker and ask them to retrieve it and keep it.
However, life is not always that simple.
The cost of onward travel for a driver and 4 passengers can be expensive and having to rely on taxis, trains etc comes with its own problems, so in reality you are insuring yourself against a much bigger loss.
Not motoring related I know, but I'll leave it to HJ, Dave, PG or Smokie to do as they see fit - and I'll accept the consequences;)
I have no connection to the family but feel that the more support that they receive, the greater their strength will be in coping with this tragedy.
Also, the BR is populated by people all over the country, and further afield.
Next time I listen to the news I would very much like to hear that she had been found safe and well. To this end I have copied below the link to the website set up to find her.
www.bringmadeleinehome.com/
Although it is statistically unlikely that this post will provide the vital clue, I would be grateful to my fellow members if they could just take the time to visit the site, and maybe plublicise it in other forums they frequent.
Thank you all very much

... so popular on Honda Civics? I couldn't help noticing how singularly unattractive this colour is on seeing a couple of cars so marred during a lengthy examination of oncoming vehicles the other day - while I was waiting patiently in a jam caused by a 'shuntette' to the west of Oxford on the A40 during Thursday's evening peak. (And there were loads of Civics; Honda must be very pleased with themselves.)
While I'm about it, you can get a VW Beetle in a solid colour that must be called Mushroom Soup. And MINI do Pepper White. More like Full Fat Milk.
Any other colours that you can't fathom why anyone would have chosen them? Read more
Had a brownish Cavalier once, can't remember what Vauxhall said it was but the females called her Bisto and the boys reckoned it was just jobby brown. Good point was that it was absolutely low-life proof.
I have been advised that the compressor on my AC is leaking and needs replacing. Is it possible to replace the seals rather than the whole unit? If the unit does have to be replaced are there any drawbacks with fitting a second hand unit? Read more
Depends what you call expensive. Best I have been quoted is £300 before vat and fitting.
Got the info through today, about the re-branding of the old points scheme, looks sort of the same, but different. Now pushing the Ferrari links!!
The main thing being that you WON'T forget to claim your incentive vouchers, 'cos they'll send 'em anyway!!
What you MUST do, is specify the vouchers you prefer, or they'll just be money off fuel - not too much of a problem, unless you're using it as an unofficial perk!
Looks like value is around 1p/litre & a similar amount if you have a Shell credit card (also due for re-inventing, shortly)
Can't see anything about the confusing targets, from before, to earn the extra points - guess they'll come up with somthing though!
All in all, you might as well subscribe, if you're a Shell customer, or if they have a convenient station, on your route!

Yes, I never could get the hang of those.
Still I did manage to get three full packs of the recent Ferrari Top Trumps cards they were doing, which pleased my boys no end!
...use oil instead of water?
No internal corrosion, no anti-freeze needed and I would think you still get effective heat transfer.
or am I missing something?

A new online simulator to prove to drivers the dangers of being behind the wheel when travelling too fast, after drinking or when using a mobile phone has been launched by RoSPA.
It shows how speed, weather and impairments dramatically affect stopping distances and result in crashes and pedestrian deaths.
By logging on to www.stoppingdistances.org.uk/ motorists can see how long it takes to stop when a child dashes out from behind a van to retrieve a ball bouncing in the road.

I agree, it looks like some BTEC Multimedia student's project.
"A student? I thought that they were supposed to have some semblance of intelligence"...
Sadly, nowadays it doesn't follow - believe me, I recruit graduates for my firm. And even if they do have some academic wisdom, common sense doesn't automatically come with it.
