There are 2 stats on this engine.

One for the main cooling system & one for the oil cooler. It is the oil cooler one that usually fails & gets overlooked.

Hi all

I own a Mk3 Golf GTi 2.0 8v 95' N-plate, which has been running well since i bought it last July up until the middle of last week.

I filled my car up as i do every 2-weeks. Left the forecourt travelled up the road to work got less than a mile casually gazed across the dashboard, and noticed the fuel gauge rapidly decreasing. Naturally i pulled over at the next safest place. Looked around for a fuel leak none everything was fine, so i carried onto work.
Later in the day went out in the car had done approx 30miles and the fuel gauge is now showing 3/4 tank which was about right, thought no more it was now fixed.

Went out on Sunday had done a couple of miles and suddenly without warning the car stalled total loss of power. I tried to re-start it but nothing. Fortunately i was close to a halfords(for a plastic 5litre can) and a Sainsburys petrol station. So i got some petrol topped up the tank and the car started first time so i thought better get car home quick.

Got no further than 1/2mile and again it died, and wouldn't re-start so i called a friend and got a tow home. Soon as i'd parked the car on the drive i managed to start the car no problems. Bizarre.

Has anyone else had this problem or something similar or can shed any light on the matter i would be greatful. I'm sure both faults are related but how. Could it be a faulty earth?

From my past experience it would seem that the sensor wiring insulation is of an inadequate specification for it's working environment. I would suspect the sensor wiring if it has been in situ for longer than 100,000 miles/10 years.

Hi, I'm trying to find a fault code reader for my Citroen C5 2.2 Hdi on an '02 plate.
But, does anyone know which protocol it uses. It's got an OBD2 type connection in the glove box but a scanner I got off ebay doesn't connect to it.

Does anyone know if this C5 is EOBD or OBD2 compliant ?

Thanks, Read more

UKOBD

I agree, I'm afraid that your car is not EOBD compliant, EU law required diesel vehicles to be compliant post 2004. However, we have had quite a lot of luck with the 406 HDi, this is the only one however!

With regard to the post about protocol's, often the best bet is to check the pins (www.ukobd.co.uk/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=15&PN=1 ).

I have the above car (2004, about 40K miles) with "Check Emissions" showing. Fault code scanner reports P2413 "Exhaust Gas Recirculation System Performance" Reading about lots of problems with EGR valves on Renaults I decided that must be the problem - so I changed the valve. I still have the same fault - can anyone please please offer any pointers as to what else could be wrong. The car seems to run ok but I am loathe to drive it without knowing what the problem is.

I wasn't being funny. I had to read your reply several times before it made any form of sense and one or two spelling mistakes didn't help [again not being critical just pointing it out].

No offense meant.

The car is a 56 Megane Sport Tourer

I thought it was me putting damp cloths in the passenger side door pocket, but I am now almost certain that the door pocket is filling with water when it rains

I'm currently waiting for it to rain again (Bolton - that'll be a long wait then) or I might take it to a car was at the weekend, but in the meantime, has anyone else come across this ?

Hi everyone. I need some help.

Last year I was involved in a car accident that clearly was not my fault, but I have been told I may have to pay out because someone drove into me.

Briefly I was driving along a dual carriageway and as I passed a T-junction on my left (minor road entering a dual carriageway) the driver pulled out and drove into my N/S front wing. The driver said at the time he did not look as he thought I was turning left, as it appears that my left-hand indicator was on and had been on for more than 500 metres, unbeknown to me.

I accept that if he and a witness say my indicator was on then it was on. But the supposed left turn I was taking was more than 25 metres before this T-junction, which I have timed is 7 (seven) seconds away from the point of impact, travelling at the max speed for the road.

My insurance company have been offered a 2/3 ? 1/3 split in my favour stating case law in Wadsworth V Gillespie but I contend my circumstances are totally different if for no other reason that 7 seconds is too long a time not to again look right to check the situation. What if a motorcycle had legally come up on my right hand side to overtake had I actually been turning left, which I was not.

Does anyone know of any other case law that may help me in challenging this offer?

All good points and I am trying to be as unbiased as possible.

The seven seconds has been timed and is the time form the last point of entry onto the left hand slip road and the point of impact. Due to the nature of the junction I was witnessed (truck behind me) as driving at between 10 and 12 MPH as there is a pedestian crossing on this junction as well. Hence the seven seconds.

I agree and have said as much that the other driver had plenty of time to pull out across to the central reservation and wait for a gap on the other side of the dual carriageway. He did not because we has not taking due care!

The insurance company for the otehr driver has offered 2/3 - 1/3 in my favour

But the most important difference here from W v G is that the other driver hit me on the Naer side ie unlike eth motorcyclist who hit the car emerging from the minor road.

The bottom line is the other driver was in a hurry to get to work and simply did not look to his right for a very long period, which in my opinion was reckless and had little to do with the signal that had accidentally been left on.

As an aside the police officer who attended and witnessed the collision said the other driver was totally at fault because we has not aware of the circumastances and that a bulb flashing proves one thing ie "The bulb works"

I have told my insurance company to put the offer "where the sun don't shine" metophorically speaking. Lets wait and see

Hi all,

My partners March 02 Saxo VTR 1.6 has 21,000 miles on the clock and is 5 years old.

Ive been thinking that the cambelts for these are to be safe best changed at 40,000. However she only clocks up about 5K per year and at that rate the cambalt is going to be 10 years old when due for a change. Should I mention this as a potential problem, I know she wont listen to me cos what daddy says goes, he said to me that just get it changed at 40,000 miles if she keeps car that long

Any ideas, dont want it to snap cos she loves that car.

Thanks in advance. Read more

Robin the Technician

Hi,
Anyone know a website where you can download service sheets for cars?
It's just we have a few cars in the family (including nieces/nephews/ in laws) that need servicing and to be able to download a service sheet specific to each vehicle would be most useful.

Thanks

Hello

Wondering if anyone is able to give me their opinions on the Ford Focus 2.0tdci I am looking at getting this car with my company car allowance but am wondering if it's worth the premium over a 1.6 tdci. I have also heard the 2.0tdci unit has had a few reliability problems. Read more

I have a Vectra 2.0 DI LS (diesel) from 97, that I bought in second hand one year ago. Since I bought after some miles the Engine Management light (EML) pop up and the power is reduced, but even without the light on the car is not to much responsive specially after reaching 3000 revs it seems that the acceleration its slowly.

After the EML pop up the "P1125 - Critical System Malfunction 2" is stored in the ECU. I have been doing some research and found some possible causes, so I though and realize that would be the EGR Valve, I start asking quotes in eBay and other places and because of the confusion about which EGR valve would be on of them send me two diagrams with the possible valves or pumps, in one of them I could see a valve that I couldn?t see in my car, I rechecked in the car and I just could see the place where the valve was supposed to be and the pipe from the vacuum pump was blocked with a Hailey key. I?m talking about the Solenoid vacuum valve that open and close a butterfly valve in the inlet manifold. I realize that finally I could find the problem, so I bought the valve and before fixing I just try it to see if everything was working properly and notice that after push the throttle the actuator of the valve goes down but immediately comes to his initial position even if the engine is working in high revs. I think that this is not normal, so what is the problem? Is the Vacuum pump not socking enough? How can I know if the vacuum strength it?s with the right strength? Is there a simple way to know about that?

I would be very appreciated if someone can help me with this problem.

Regards,
Jony

>>it's worth checking the vacuum level before going any further

I fully agree - it's not unknown the vacuum pump to fail and not be able to produce enough vacuum.
