L'escargot

Windows Updates tells me that IE7 is available. Is it worth it, and how do I find out what level I have currently?

"By the way a 2GB allowance is not "ordinary" these days, in fact unless you pay only a small amount per month it's a bit of a rip off."

Maybe, but for what I use the internet it is a hell of a lot more than necessary - maybe the same for L'Escargot?

...failure of the DMF will ruin the gearbox and half of the front of the car...

Does anyone have any pics of the aftermath of a failed DMF? Does the thing literally explode then? (I guess that's the correct term) Read more

no the debris usually just scrapped the front covers, hydraulic actuators and the clutch and basket.(bearing in mind these were experimental f1 engines)the con rod in the ceiling was a seperate failure(it didn't like 20000 rpm)

Hi Backroom'sters

Can you help me with this.

I am considering a Mondeo Titanium and I want to haggle like hell with the dealer. I have been offered a free upgrade on the stereo to have bluetooth link to my mobile. This represents a £300.00 saving I am told.

I dont think that this is a "costed" upgrade. I think that the Sony stereo installed in the Mondeo already has bluetooth built in and its just a case of activating it via a security code.

I have this point of view as I sell fingerprint readers which have a storage capacity for 250 fingerprints. We offer some people a free upgrade to 2000 users and this is done in the same way. The function is already there, its just a case of activating it!!!

Now then, here is the big one!! If indeed this my feelingsa are correct on this, how do I activate it myself so that I can tell them to forget about that and get something else free!! Roof bars etc!!!

Let me know what you reckon guys!!!

Cheers

Bluetooth & Voice Control requires an extra module in the Mondeo, and probably isn't worth paying for.

There are 2 types of Sony CD units - the single CD which is also MP3 compatible and allows you to put 8-10 albums on 1 disc, and the 6 CD changer which takes normal audio CD's only. The latter costs more and is standard on the Ghia X and ST models, personally I'd prefer MP3 over a changer as most of my music is held on the computer.

Hello All,
I have a 1997 Audi A4 2.4 V6 engine code AGA. Just come back from a week away and the thing wont start. It fires up and then cuts out after a couple of seconds. After trying a few times there was some smoke from the exhaust and a smell of unburnt fuel. Also the drivers information system is not working along with fuel gauge. I've tried disconnecting the battery for a while but it made no difference. Could it be the ECU ? or one of the million sensors !!
Any help would be much appreciated,
all the best

Your best not to gitter around with it because if you dont know what your doing you may cause more damage.Best to get the car pickt up and dropt of at your nearest Dealer if you knacker it more the engineer will now this when he plugs into his machine and something thet might only have cost a few pounds might go into hundreds.Dont think these guys who work on these cars dont know their stuff the do and if you go to your main dealer and not a back street garage you shouldnt get ript of .I have heard off this problem before and am sure it was down to a slack eart h cable in the engine bay check that all your earths are tight if they are and the problem is still their.then you know what to do i hope this has been of help to you.

e.g. tinyurl.com/y292ag

but tinyurl.com/y8oecd for a MB A190

or tinyurl.com/t4lb7 for an Alfa 164 (about half way down) amongst many othe Alfas.

It was however very well engineered.

Today it's confirmed that the S type replacement is to be called the.. er.. XF..

autopark.blogspot.com/2006/11/jaguar-xf-sedan.html

Well that's a name of a car to aspire too! Should have kept it 'S' type IMO. At least a little kudos.

The name 'XF' has none.

I have a 94L 2.0i 8v VSX and am experiencing problems. It starts fine, suspension lifts to normal height fine BUT it always sticks in 1st gear for too long (in Drive) and will eventually drop into 2nd, then straight into 3rd as the revs have hit about 5000 and it sounds like the exhaust is gonna fall off! A Citroen dealer advised that the gearbox needs to be warmed up sufficiently before driving off, but even after wasting 10 mins sitting still, it still happens every day. Any ideas? Read more

Sounds typical of a sticking governor. The usual reason for this is contamination due to wear debris from some part of transmission. Cure would be a strip and rebuild, replacing the wearing part (often its the torque convertor falling apart).

Watching the Welsh news this morning they had an item about a mini tornado which struck a village whose name escapes me. One guy being interviewed said the families cars had suffered about £15000 worth of damage between them, but the insurance company was already starting to mutter about Acts of God, which are excluded from cover.

So is it possible to actually insure your car against natural disasters, storms, floods etc, and how do you go about adding it to your policy? It seems a bit of a cop out by the insurance companies that they can get away with this sort of thing, my SiL lost out years ago when her car was in a car park and the adjacent river burst it's banks.

Recent campaign in NE London

key: OCU = Operational Command Unit..... TfL = Transport for London

Officers working under Operation Foist have seized 1806 uninsured vehicles in just four weeks.
Officers from the Traffic OCU targeted uninsured drivers in the Hackney, Haringey and Newham.
The joint initiative with TfL was launched after research carried out by TfL found that these three boroughs have the highest fail to stop figures. A recent government report also showed that uninsured drivers are far more likely to be involved in a fail to stop collision.
During the four-week operation, £12,000 of cash was found, 0.5k of heroin seized and 212 people were arrested for a variety of offences. Officers also seized two Porsches, valued in excess of £150,000, a BMW Z4 and a Hummer.

>£12,000 cash was found
£12,000 / 1806 = £6.64 per car.
I think Dick Turpin boasted a better profit margin during stops
in North London? (adjusted for inflation of course)

I'd guess that like the heroin the 12k (used twenties?) was an incidental find in one vehicle. Illustration of the fact that those who "dis" insurance or red lights are disproportionately likely to have fingers in other pies as well.
