loop

My peugeot appeared to spontaneously combust in the drive after being at rest for an hour and a half. The fire brigade identifed the cause as a probable electrical fault in the light cluster. Independent engineer assigned by insurance co. said it appeared to be as a result of a fault in the wiring loom. However, due to the extent of the fire he was unable to pinpoint the exact location of where it started. My insurance company have said that since they cannot identify the exact cause then they have no case with Peugoet and are claiming it against my policy! I've asked them for a second opinion which they are not willing to supply so I am now trying myself to find an engineer who can hopefully identify the cause.
Has anyone had any experience of Peugeots going up in flames??? I know there have been recalls on older models for faults which may cause them to catch fire but I know there have been none issued on mine (Manufactured 2004). Anyone have any idea where I could get a reliable independent engineer to have a look at the car?

Could it have been a diesel runaway?

I noticed that your car was the 1.6 diesel, which are notorious for being unreliable if the correct oil isn't used or changed regularly....

Hi

I have had my O2 plate Focus 1.8 TDCI Ghia for neartly 2 months now. But have a couple of problems

I leave for work at 6.30am every morning. The past few weeks it has been really frosty this time of the morning. When I try to start the engine it doesn?t work first time. Its not until I try turning the key the second time and it works. The other thing I noticed is the glow light only comes on for a split second. Is it supposed to stay on for a while until it warms up. I have wait a few minutes to start the engine because the glow light does not indicate but its still the same

This only happens when the temperature is about 6 degrees or lower. If there is no frost the car seems to start fine.

Also the car has stalled about 5 times while driving along. This is normally within about 15 mins after starting on my journey, when I am changing down gears but it has also happened when the car has been running for an hour. This is the main thing I am worried about since it a dangerous thing to happen in the middle of a busy junction.

My other concern is that there is water leaking beneath the glove box. I can not confirm if it only happens when it rains but there seems to be a puddle on the passenger mat when I head home of the evening. After reading on various forums it seems its the pollen filter thats at fault. Will Ford change the housing FOC since its a common problem?

I took the car into a garage a week ago and they found an error code of P1608 but were unable to diagnose what the fault meant. So I have now taken it back to the dealer who has had it for a few days but the they say the error code is no longer there and they are yet to see the problem occuring.

Can anyone please help because I love my Focus apart from the stalling/starting problem.

Unless it is well below feezing the glowplug light wont be on for long on a TDCI (second or so) - so don't worry about that. If the light flashes on and off repeatedly then that's a fault indication.

Tiff Needel found not guilty of Speeding @ 90mph in Sth Wales

He had employed the well known Cheshire Lawyer.

TN said he had not received the initial NIP and therefore it came as a surprise when the summons arrived months later.

The bench believed him about the NIP not being received and he was found not guilty.
Many months later he could not remember who had been driving at that date & time.. Read more

It's about a piffling speeding ticket.

Quite. And its now time to close this thread as it has gone exactly the same way as all the previous speeding related threads have gone.

Everything else works, lights and speedo, etc.

Why do (most) estate cars have roof rails? How do folk with saloon cars cope without them? Read more

It's also possible to carry light loads directly on the rubber area of the roof and use the bars as lashing points.

I can carry some long light loads on the side of my standard Mondeo saloon without using roof bars. ;-))

My A4 has lately been making a lot of black smoke on relatively mild accelaration. So much so, its is becoming embarrasing as I see the smoke in the rear view mirror day and night. The strange thing is that the car (done 41K miles), drives perfectly, doesn't appear to have lost any MPG or performance and has just had a major service with new air filter. The car does a minimum of 150 motorway miles a week plus other driving so I can't see that it can be too sooted-up. Also, some days (on the same tank of fuel) it just doesn't smoke at all even if I try to make it.
What is this likely to be ? I have discounted MAF, and air filter, so could it be another valve sticking or a sensor problem of some type ? Read more

An update on the original problem of the black smoke, I acquired some Forte Advanced Diesel Treatment which is not generally on sale to the public. Since then over XMAS I have done around 600 miles on the treated tankfull, the smoke is now gone, apart from some extreme driving circumstances when ANY diesel on the planet would make black smoke !
So if anyone out there has a similar problem I would recommend this stuff.

The old Omega's about to go. Trouble is, it's been standing for three months and the battery is now flat.

I've never had the need to use the key, and the doorlock is seized up. Central locking won't work because the battery is flat, and I can't get to the battery because I can't get into the car.

The boot opens with the key, so I'm wondering if I can open the boot, wire a battery into the boot interior light (circuit will be open if the boot is) and flow enough juice back to the battery to let me hit the central locking.

Is this idea:

a. A brilliant piece of logic that will solve all my problems and will become the standard solution for this problem everywhere, leading to revered worship by mechanics worldwide and subsequent overloading of my ego by fawning women?

b. A recipe for disaster, as it'll blow a dozen circuits?

c. Daft, because there's an easy, tried and tested way to resolve this that is much easier and guaranteed to work?

In September this year, I bought a 1 year old Mazda 6 from a UK Mazda dealer.

Since then, on 3 separate occasions, I've gone out to the car and found all 4 electric windows completely down.

I'm currently having to keep it in the garage at nights and in a secure car park at work until I can get the garage to look at it under waranty.

In the meantime - does anyone know what might cause this ?

Under what circumstances would all the windows actually go down ? an accident maybe ? Read more

My Mazda6 (an 05 sakata) doesn't do this.
I'm glad it doesn't do the opeining bit - I'd quite like the close option.

How can I tell for sure if air conditioning is working on a brand new Audi A3??

Nothing technical please (because I amn't :) )

The reason I ask, is that it steams up, and no other car with aircon I've had (or indeed the previous A3) ever did.

Any help appreciated, otherwise it's a 4 hour round trip to the nearest dealer :(

Thanks in advance
