Had a minor rear end shunt yesterday-- crease to plastic bumper.
Other party say they will pay without going via insurance, although I have not yet got any prices.
Should I inform my Insurance Company, even though I do not intend to make a claim?

I have a Pug 406 hdi 110 w reg 2.0 and sometimes when im in 4th or 5 th i have a problem, all gear change really well and the bit is about midway whe lifting the clutch pedal however when i boot it on a couple of occasions it seems the clutch slipped or maybe it was my imagination for instance coming home from work today i was accelerating after having to slow down from a queue and the revs seemed to go up to 2100 then back down to 2000 rpm for literally 1-2 seconds the car has done 58k miles i cant tell if theres a problem or not as it literally only happens once or twic a week when warm and usually when accelerating after doing 80mph on the motorway all gears change properly and there is no crunching there is a slight judder but i think that could be to do with changing gear at too low revs. Read more
It's worth bleeding the system and filling with new hydraulic fluid, this should firm up the clutch and is the cheapest option. Fluid tends to get hot on a long run especially on very fast runs of the type you are doing which tends to show the problem more readily.
If that doesn't cure the problem then the garage will probably need to have a look inside to locate the problem.
According to an item shown on last night's Fifth Gear, the best car to be in when going over speed bumps is a Citroen Xantia.
Specifically they tested the amount of movement experienced by the driver when going over a Bedfordshire standard speed bump at various speeds in a Mark 5 Golf, a Porsche Cayenne and a N reg Xantia they'd bought off Ebay for £650.
So, expect the used values of reasonable condition Xantias to rocket over the next few weeks.

Any one with an idea of the cause of these symptoms
I have a 1.4 tdi pd (turbo diesel) Polo I should also emphasis it has 3 cylinders .and this fault appeared. when I was out in the car yesterday, the car suffered a dramatic loss of power in that when I was on on level ground I could not get the engine above 2500 rpm and the engine was jerking slightly as though the fuel was being shut off and on. when I reached an incline in the road I was left wondering if the car was going to manage to reach the top. If I pressed the accelerator further down to try to compensate for the loss of power on the incline I could here a hiss or a sucking of air sound from the engine compartment on the passenger side. As I have pointed out it has 3 cylinders and if one was not doing its share of load this could account for this large drop in power. When the car is not moving I can rev the engine right up to maximum rpm without any delay or hesitation, but this is when the engine is not under load. I have my doubts that it could be the turbo charger but I know could be wrong. To me it sounds as though one cylinder is not getting fuel to it. I am not totally sure but one day last week this same symptom appeared to happen momentarily when floored the accelerator there was a definite flat spot that then vanished as quick as it appeared (I have since done 150 miles) and at the time I though thats strange.

If only they were all that simple...
Has anyone every heard of these tyres.
In a rush after hitting a kerb on the way to work (burstign a tyre) and went into a local Kwik Fit. After agreeing a price for a set of Pirelli p3000's I returned to find a set of 4 Ceta Spider tyres 175/65/ R14 on my pug 206.
After questiong the guy about it, he said that they are made by pirelli (which it says on the receipt) and worked out to be £30 cheaper overall. However, there is no reviews on the web, or anywhere else...Other than blatant lies, have I been ripped off?
Best as always,
Craig

As fitted to the basic '98 Fiesta I have recently acquired: "pants!" Road noise / vibration is the most entertaining / annoying since my experiences with some early Korean tyres many moons ago.
Not recommended (unless you are deaf and drive wearing thick gloves).
Hi,
Just had to use the tyre repair kit on my Galaxy ... and it worked.
When I took the car to Kwik-Fit I was told that they couldn't fix tyres with goo in them. Fair enough, so I took it to the Ford dealer I bought the car from. Initially they said the same, but I convinced them that they could and the tyre was fixed for a very reasonable £10.
Now the problem is that I have used the bottle of goo, so I need a replacement so I 'can have another puncture' ... off to the parts dept.
Sorry, can't find a replacement under Galaxy, so 'we' try the S-Max and yes there is the goo, but I can only buy a whole kit costing £127!!!
Yep, that's all they had no way to buy the goo on its own. After a little discussion, I was given a bottle from an S-Max in the showroom.
I've done a little digging and Continental make the repair kit but you can't buy the replacement parts (goo and the hose needed) in the UK yet. Ford have no clue, but are looking into it.
Sounds like they pushed this technology out a little too soon to me.
Does any one else have experience with similar kits - the Galaxy has no spare wheel.
Thanks

At least your Galaxy came with a repair kit. On my Smart Brabus it is listed as an option, and there is no sapre wheel at all.
Picked up a brand new Volvo V50 last month. 10 days later (after I've gone away for 2 weeks) the V5 document arrives in the post: they've logged the car as a V70!
Guess I simply need to send the amended doc back to Swansea... Do you think I'd be in serious trouble if I get stopped by the authorities in the meantime? Read more
Bought a new Perodua Kenari in 2001, was stopped by the 'boys' as the car was the wrong colour! V5 said Burgandy, car was Gold.
Sent off V5 amended and received new one no problem....
Just bought (4 weeks ago) a new Toyota Yaris.
V5 was addressed to wrong house! (Thanks to vigilant postie I received it). Sent off amended V5, not received it back yet though.
Wonder if the next new car (in 5 years time) will have correct details on V5?????????
As to your 'serious trouble' I don't think so, the reg no & vin should check out OK
I am seriously contemplating buying a Focus ST but I'm being put off by some scary reports of fuel consumption of less than 20mpg.
If you own an ST can you let me know what you're average fuel consumption is and what your typical driving conditions are?

Have completed 16000 miles over 6 months consisting of 70 mile daily round trip commute, long trips at weekends and local work as 'dad's taxi'. Typical range between refills is 290- 330 miles (10.5 -11 galls) which works out between 28 and 32 mpg. You can get much better with long trips if you keep the average 'around' the UK limit and local driving dips to around 23 mpg. Any long term abuse (ie constantly using > 5000rpm on the upchanges) with the right foot significantly affects these figures downwards.
Daughter got caught out on her way to work yesterday. Unfortunately I wasn't in the county at the time so unable to help. She got a tow via her Breakdown recovery service to a local garage who bled the hydraulic system (£30total cost) but were unable to find anything else wrong with the mechanism. She drove home without any difficulty last night.
However, on her way to work this morning the exact same thing happened. Had to knock it int neutral and roll into a bus stop! Luckily I was around and drove down to her rescue. I too was unable to engage any gear until i realised that the clutch pedal wasn't realeasing itself fully into its uppermost position. Eventually I was able to 'lift' it up manually to enable it to spring back to where it should be. She continued to work with me following. I'm about to pop down to coleect and drive it around/back home and investigate further.
Guess this problem is likely to reoccur/persist. Any ideas as to what might be preventing the clutch pedal from disengaging fully, etc.
Much appreciated... Read more
My man referred to his man (a VW specialist mechanic) and the prognosis appears to be the Master Cyclinde needs replacing. This particular VW manufactured(?) part has apparently been habitually failing of late!
Hi. I've just had my clio dci's timing belt changed, its done 63k and now 2 weeks down the line it's squealing when cold for 5 minutes or so. I've rung the dealer and booked it in, but i'm not sure whether they should foot the bill or me - for whatever needs doing..
i'm a university student, and can't really afford to pay £300 dealer bills every few weeks..
(not sure if they did just the belt or whole kit - i'll find that out when i go in)
also the squealing is accompanied by a loud vacuum-like noise, which varies in pitch according to the revs....this goes on for longer than the belt squeal - does anyone know what it might be, and would the belt change have caused it?
might it be the water pump?
million thanks

i think it was a mouse up the wheel arch but it will be dead now
Thanks for all the replies.
I have now told my insurance company about the accident and that I do not wish to claim at this stage.
I have not contacted the other party yet, but have today got a quote for £436 ( rear bumper, rear beam, paint and labour)
I think this may well turn out to be an insurance job after all!!
