Is the end in sight for petrol cars after todays result of the Le Mans - Audi R10 diesel 1st and 3rd. Read more
Some advice needed, I've been lucky enough to find myself a job abroad which is going to be a great move for me. One snag, I'm left with my car which I bought recently from a BMW dealer and won't have time to do a private sale.
So I'm thinking of putting it up for auction, what I'm afraid of is that I will get far less than it's actually worth. I can't think of any other options, can you?
If it helps the car isn't that new and is an X reg 330 ci so selling it back to a BMW dealer probably isn't an option. Any idea how much it's worth? It's in BMW dealer retail condition, any help with setting a value for auction reserve would be great. Read more
If its a good clean car why not take it round to some local quality car sites and asking what they would give for it? Saves aggro and time of auction and you will know what price you will get immediatley?

Come on guys, haven't any of you had "one of those days" where nothing goes right?
I've now done the edit properly. DD.
::embarrassed or what::
Can anyone tell me how to dismantle the overhead clock and int light bulkhead at the front of the car? The clock has stopped working. Also if anyone knows how easy it is to access the ambient temp clock mixed in with the speedo dials, as this has stopped working also.
Cheers. Read more

Mercedes-Benz offered the first production diesel car in 1936.
Either Rolls-Royce or De Dion made the first V8 car engine, around 1904 - the R-R one was for their 'Legalimit' car, the only R-R model of which no examples survive.
Can anyone suggest a method of tracing how water could be finding its way into a Mk 4 (X reg) Fiesta boot please? The water settles at what appears to be the lowest point; the recess for the bolt that releases the spare wheel carrier, therefore that area is showing some surface rust. However, it's not clear whether the water is getting in at that point also, or just finding its way there from somewhere else. The car has been through a carwash recently and no water got in then, leading me to think that it's being thrown up from the back wheels and somehow getting in. The boot interior is in good condition without any rust holes, etc - just damp carpets!
All help appreciated. Cheers.

Thanks for that - will do.

ive noticed that my car (pug 306 1.9 td) has lost some turbo power. I think that the exaust is blowing a bit around the manifold. I just wondered if anybody had done this job for any tips. Ive just renewed the back box so i wish id have known earlier about this to do it at the same time.
Haynes say to do the exhaust and inlet manifold at the same time. Will this solve the problem? Thanks Read more
Thanks for the reply Richard as youve helped me with the rear suspension mounts before. By 'rumbling' i mean a low pitched sound on acceleration like an exhaust blowing. Sorry its a bit vague.
I do have a problem with the drivers side drive shaft though. A few months back comming onto the m6 north bound from the m56 as its a funny bend with an adverse cambre the drive shaft started nocking very loud. When i got home and looked the inner cv joint casing had come off and splattered grease everywhere. I cleaned it up and packed it again but the garage reconed the tripod joint had popped out and was grinding. Anyway this has been fine ever since bar the odd knocking when going over funny bumps.
I thought that a leak from that manifold may be attributed to the noise and loss of turbo. The noise does sound like its comming from the front end but more central than drive shaft.
I have a corsa 1.0litre on a W reg. It has developed a bad wheeze and hunts constantly. Someone told me that the airflow metre could be faulty. They cost about £90 and I was wondering what is the best way to prove that this component is actually the culprit. regards

i wouldnt buy one of those on a hunch.
get some advice from a garage is my advice,as i would be more inclined to be lOoking at the idle control valve/plunger but it might just be down to low compressions of your engine etc (they arent my favourite by a long chalk)

informed me of something I did not know about driving abroad. Many insurance companies issue Green Cards (usually for free), but you are only covered for 3rd Party claims only. You have to pay an extra premium to have comprehensive cover extended to go abroad. So if you are going abroad this summer, I suggest you check your insurance very carefully to check whether you are fully covered.

I read frequently, but only post when I have something useful to say.

I think you got your lines crossed;
Within the EU insurers must provide you with the minimuim cover required by law in that country. That is usually the same as Third Party here, but not always.
If you go the extra step of getting a green card, then your normal UK based policy cover is extended as per the Green Card usually limted by dates.
So, if you have comprehensive here, then with a green card you have comprehensive there.
As an additional point you don't really need to carry Green Cards (or spanish bail bonds) as you used to, since within the EC your own insurance certificate will satisfy the law. It may be easier to carry it, for peace of mind or local translation, but don't pay a broker over and above what the insurer charged.
Outside the EU you should make sure that you carry them.
This is my first post on here!
My 1999 Isuzu engined astra diesel started spouting oil from the camshaft seal. I bought a genuine GM seal and new timing belt and fitted both, temporarily leaving off the t/belt covers to check all was ok. It was initially then oil started leaking from the new gasket again, ruining the new timing belt. When running it looks like the camshaft has some movement in it causing the seal to stretch and compress leading to leakage. Has anyone heard of this? Can you replace the cam bearings if they are knackered? Any help very gratefully recieved.
Many Thanks, Stuart Read more
I did read it but thought other more familiar with the model would reply. The camshaft should not move and if it moves enough to pull the seal out of shape when it if badley worn and may even be effecting the valve clearances. I do not know if that engine has a shelled cam shaft or not. I would imagine so. Regards Peter

I believe the Rolls Royce diesel plant was bought some years ago by Perkins and is now known as PESL (Perkins Engines Shrewsbury Limited).
