June 2006
Hi,
I've got a 2001 Y 406 coupe with a swimming pool in the passenger side footwell, The problem started last sunday, i noticed a few dribbles from under the glovebox
Come monday it had turned into a torrent of water enough to form a puddle in the footwell.
I've taken the car to the main dealer but they want to charge me £600, because they say there is a problem with the evaporator unit (or something like that ?), and the warranty company wont cover it because they say its "water ingress".
Does anyone have any suggestions
Any help would be appreciated.

Hi
I have been offered this car for 6000, but its high miles of 115,000 put me off a little. It has a dealer service history for the first 100,000 miles, then serviced by a local garage over the past 2 years or so.
In need of a good clean, It seems ok
Any advice would be appreciated, how does the price sound to you?
Duncan
PS- Am I right in thinking this modle did not change until 2005?
Thanks Read more
£6k is a good price. A colleague just paid the same
for a W reg example with 95,000 on th clock.
If from a private seller, your friend overpaid by about £250. if from a dealer, I would say it is a good deal.
Hi
All disc brakes + ABS. Multi-link suspension (front only?)
Seem to have developed over time(but much worse in last few days) increasingly loud, initially squeaking, now grating noise from rear drvr-side wheel, I think. Terrible going down country lanes with walls either side! Intermittent but now getting more permanent. It's a regular beat as from the rotation of the wheel. Sometimes get mild grating noise when apply brakes and when I do my impression is that the original noise is worse. Noticed also worse on turning to the right. Pads OK. No leaks. Noted that the rear disc is shinier over outer 1.5 cms - relevant? (Abnormal application of pad?)
Was also getting intermittent 'clunking' of rear suspension when going over road humps.
Could a sticking brake caliper cause this?
I asked garage I bought from to test drive when problem was milder but they couldn't detect anything.
Thanks for any help.

it needs wheels off and an inspection ,if garage arent willing to do this then find one that can as it may just be a stone or it could even be the backing coming off a pad or one of the shoes/springs in the hub for the handbrake.
it could lock a wheel and cause an accident
friend wants one but we dont know much about them. think they are all 2liter petrols. plese advise what to look out for etc etc. cheers guys Read more
There were 2.0 8v Petrols and also the later ones were 1.8 16v.
Ive just bought a peugeot 806 1998 car that comes with 2 keys but no remote key and fob. my dealer says he can supply me with a remote key for around 200.00, which seems a bit dear. does anyone know where i may get them cheaper than being held to ransome by dealers ? regards mike111

thanks for advice. as the keys controlledthe central locking and opened the doors, i thought that thats how the car came until it was mentioned by a friend about the remote.
Wanted to top up the washer fluid in a Saab 9-5, so... looked under the bonnet but just... can't see where to pour it all in.

Well on some cars all replenishment covers are yellow and on some they aren't! Now you can get the squashed flies off the screen!
Nissan Micra - disposing of and hopefully getting some dosh!
We currently have a P reg. Nissan Micra Shape 1.0L which has been sitting on our driveway since August 2005 when the engine came to an unfortunate end after the timing chain snapped. After researching into putting a reconditioned engine into the car we have decided that this is not a cost-effective option since we do not have the means nor ability to do it ourselves.
We need to dispose of the car and understand that we can take it to a scrapyard, but feel that we might lose out. Apart from the engine and a couple of minor dents on the body work, the car is in fairly good condition. The tyres were on for less that a year and the battery was only four months old.
Does anyone have any ideas about the best way of disposing of it and getting some money back? Any help is appreciated. Thank you. Read more
Thx everybody for your replies, particularly rattle and stuartl. The car in question is three days into a 10 day auction as we speak!

I've a Golf V GT TDI, in the brochure they mention that the Golf range comes with 'Front footwell illumination', I've looked and looked for a light in the footwell but can't see one.
Are there any Golf V drivers out there that have these lights? or is it describing something completely different? Read more
wrightstuff,
You can have the sport with the 140BHP TDI, although I've not seen one....

I'm feeling a big sense of injustice about a recent parking ticket and wonder if anyone can tell me if I have a case for challenging it.
I unwittingly parked in a disabled parking bay on an otherwise unrestricted street on a Thursday morning. A parking ticket was apparently attached to my car that afternoon. My car remained parked there overnight (I didn't return to it) and on Friday early afternoon, another ticket was issued. On Friday evening, my car was removed to a car pound.
I paid the fine for the second ticket when collecting my vehicle (along with removal and storage charges*).
I knew nothing about the first ticket until receiving a demand for payment from the council. No ticket was attached to my car when I collected it from the car pound, and no ticket was handed to me there.
The council now want £80 because I didn't pay the £40 fine within 14 days.
Two queries:
1) Can they issue two tickets for the same parking offence (mindful that the parking offence spanned two days)?
2) If yes, can they demand £80 given that I had no knowledge of the ticket until a few days ago, and was therefore denied the opportunity to pay £40 within 14 days?
Thanks for any help,
Adam
* Ps. Not realising my car had been in a disabled bay, I called the police to report it stolen on the Friday evening. The police looked up my registration number on the relevant database, didn't find it, so assumed it had indeed been stolen. The following Tuesday, they rang me back to give me a crime reference number. At this time, they rechecked the database and found my car on it. I therefore incurred 4 days storage charges (£100) because I was denied any knowledge of where my car was. The authorities are supposed to log removed vehicles onto this database within 20 minutes or so of removal. Evidently, they didn't on this occasion.
I hope you can see why I feel so aggrieved! Read more
I can't add anything factual except to say that I work in Putney, and have seen cars with multiple tickets posted, so it's not unusual.

I suggest that water ingress means a leak from a windscreen or door seal and this clearly isn't that IMHO. Your garage says it is a problem with the evaporator ( which is part of the a/c so I don't know where torrents water come in that) but it is a mechanical problem which should be covered by your warranty. However, do read the 56 small print paragraphs of exclusions!
