March 2006
Dear all,
I saw a Mondeo Y reg, 2.0 TDDi LX, wiht full main dealer service history (last service Feb 06), and a good colour (seal grey), with nearly new Pirelli tyres, for £2995, and offered the dealer £2500 straight off. He said £2650, with a new MOT, an extra £100 for a 6 month warranty.
Firstly, is £2650 a reasonable price, and secondly, is the warranty worth having, as I understand that dealers now legally have to provide a warranty for 6 months (sort of!).
Also, I've got a W reg Focus TDi with 140,000 miles on the clock, again with full service history good condition, nothing wrong with it, and p/x would be so much easier, but what 'cost to change' should I expect?
Any feedback very much appreciated.... Read more
I?ve put 20 pounds unleaded in, how can I get it out? I've tried a manual small pump syphon and I've tried sucking on the tube to syphon. The tube goes into the tank about 2 feet but I'm having no joy I can see the fuel coming up the tube a bit only. Does anyone know if there is any sort of anti syphon filter or could I be doing something wrong? Is there some sort of technique or method any tips would be welcome

The Climate Control system produces no heat in any mode, auto or manual. All the blower fans can be heard working, the digital displays and switch illuminations all work . . . but no heat from the vents.
Your guidance, as always, very much appreciated. Thanks. Read more
If it is producing no heat at all than that suggests that the system is not using the heater matrix or the electric heaters within the air trunking ( I assume any omega with CC will have these?). Can't think of anything else to try myself (none of my omegas have had CC...) , try asking on the omega-owners group over on yahoo!

I know the earlier boxer engines fitted to the Legacy were belt cam driven, but does anybody know if the 2006 165 bhp 2 litre quad cam motor uses a belt or chain driven cam??
I have checked out Subarus website and H.J`s FAQ on this subject, where there is no reference at all for Subaru, so I am assuming they are belt driven but hope I may be wrong. Read more
Depends which year/model.
I think for the latest Legacies its 60k/5 years.
My local rag has today a report on a driver who had been banned from driving 17 times, had been caught 3 times for drink driving, had 16 convictions for driving without insurance, 5 for TWOC'ing, and 4 for vehicle theft apart from that he was as pure as the driven snow.
He has now been banned again and sent down for 20 months.
His latest conviction was as the resultof an accident in which he (the offender ) thought he had killed a woman.
How can we stop these people driving? Read more
Some of the bans must have been concurrent. 17 separate bans
would take up a fair few number of years.

In South Africa we have had litres for many years, and I have worked out a means of converting litres/100km into m.p.g. using Microsoft Excel. If anyone would like to have a copy, let me know and I'll e-mail it to you.

Woman's Reckless Driving 'Beggars Belief'
A driver was fined £200 after she was caught on police video cameras using both hands to put on her make-up while driving at 32mph.
Donna Maddock, 22, from Mold in north Wales, was pictured with both hands off the steering wheel putting on her eye make-up.
Magistrates in Pwlhelli fined Ms Maddock £200 plus £55 costs after she pleaded guilty to a charge of careless driving. She was also given six points on her licence.
A spokeswoman for North Wales Police said the incident "beggars belief".
She said: "A car is a dangerous lump of metal in the wrong hands.
"You need to be in control at all times and Miss Maddock's actions beggars belief."
Ms Maddock was pictured on police video cameras holding a compact mirror and an eye brush while driving along the A499 in Pwllheli in north Wales.
According to the Arrive Alive road safety organisation, based in north Wales, 41 people were injured or killed on the A499 between 2001 and 2003.
Roger Vincent, a spokesman for the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents, branded Ms Maddock "irresponsible".
He said: "It is frightening to think what could have happened as she was driving along without her hands on the wheel particularly as this is such an accident blackspot."
In other cases, a woman was fined £60 for holding an apple while driving, while a man was fined £30 for eating a sausage roll while waiting at a junction, the Evening Standard reported.

Hi all
Going to receive a company car as from tomorrow, my HR manager asked if I had any points on my licence and I said no as I have not.
However I do have a DR 10 conviction dating back 6 years ago, will this have any implications as to whether I receive insurance on it? Read more
Doesn't it stay on your licence for 11 years (and count for 10)? In which case I imagine that you ought to have mentioned it. Your HR Manager should have asked to see your licence anyway.
If you work for a biggish company ('HR Manager' makes me think you do) then insurance isn't usually an issue. My old employer with a fleet of 60 cars had insurance that covered anyone to drive - several people got banned while I was there, and then drove again as soon the ban was up.
I have not seen an explanation in the Backroom to explain my own feelings of irritation at this stupid practice and after much thought have realised why it is so annoying to me.
The explanation is that it is blatant law-breaking.
If one drives at 35 mph in a built-up area, or 80 on a motorway, or is somewhat over the drink-drive limit, or is uninsured, then these factors are not immediately obvious to the casual bystander. Indeed excess speed has to be really over the top before it becomes noticeable to the average pedestrian and how can an outsider know if the driver is uninsured?
Fog lights are the equivalent of sticking two fingers up at everyone that the car passes by and that is what gets my personal goat.
All the usual disclaimers apply, namely I am not condoning drink-driving etc.

Especially the ones with after-market lamps, that seem bright enough to outshine the dipped main lamps. I've seen several of these things locally. Squared off, hanging on wobbly brackets, resembling "security" lamps. Specially designed to bring light pollution to the roads. Where are the police, when these nits are self advertising their nittiness?
I have a problem with the auxiliary engine heater on my 03 Mondeo TDCI. And I was wondering if it?s worth fixing?
The 60 Amp Fuse that feeds it was blown when I got the car. I replaced it but when I looked again it had blown again.
This is supposed to feed 3 X 250W heater plugs in the hose to the Heater matrix through 2 relays when below zero degrees C. Even if the relays took nothing, at 12 volts that?s 62.5 amps; at 13 volts that?s 58amps. It looks tightly-sized to say the least?
(1)The warranty is about to expire and the local Ford agent will ?Trace the fault? but I will have to pay if no fault is found or a wiring snag is found.
Not all models have this heater, is it important? is it worth the gamble?
(2)Does anyone have experience of these heaters or have they had similar problems?
Many Thanks
Len

The nominal car voltage used for power calculations is 13.75 volts so your 750 watt heaters will pull 54.6 amps and less at 12 volts. These heaters do not come on until after the engine has started as it is too busy heating the glow plugs if demanded and cranking the engine. The heaters do not come on without the engine running as this would also cause localised boiling of the water. I suspect one of the aux heaters has melted and gone short cct. Hope that helps. It is under warrantee insist they fix it or immediate letter to Ford HQ. Regards Peter

Went to see the bloke today - cost to change would be £1300 - too much for me really. I think I'll try and sell the Focus privately, but am tempted by the car.
Thanks for your prompt replies.....
