Does anyone know how to get glued-on decals off cars and/or glas without doing damage? I think there is supposed to be something to dissolve the glue.

If it is inside the heated back rear window it will need to be hot air and once the plastic layer is off (no sharp implements) careful use of WD40 in horizotal strokes to remove the sticky residue, followed by something like Autoglym Fast Glass over the whole area. It is worth removing rings & watches before you start.

What's the oldest car you've bought for regular transport? My first two cars (Wolseley New 14 and Citroen 12) were both 20 years old when I bought them in 1956.

Oh stop it.
On the A316 westbound, there are road works just before the start of the M3.
Beware of last second lane changing at the start of the single lane contraflow.
Be aware of the poor temporary road signs.
I saw two near misses as drivers appear not to understand the sign saying M3 only or something similar and they suddenly switched to the outside lane.
I did not see any sign indicating that the M3 is also accessible via the Sunbury roundabout so I think drivers panic and think that only the offside lane links to the M3 hence the lane switching with no warning.
I will contact the council to point out the problem. Read more
I was nearing the end of the contraflow heading west late last week when a driver (luckily several cars in front of me) decided he wanted to turn off at Sunbury and proceeded to stop before trying to turn left across the "slow" lane and go back to J1 !!
Needless to say he was totally oblivious to the near-miss and very angry drivers behind him - including me.....pity there is never a motorway patrol car handy when you need one.
I've seen a few youngsters driving around sporting small blue colour police type lights in the windscreen area but today, in Clevedon, Somerset, I spied a Tesco articulated truck (unloading) with a blue light in each half of the windscreen which must have been 2 to 3 inches square and quite bright.
So beware of that Tesco truck on the motorway !!!

Don't forget that a truckers cab is his 'office' Plenty of the offices I visit have calendars featuring naked women or other pictures on the wall - whats wrong with that.
Would I trust them with my child? - Thats like asking if I'd trust, say, a sales rep in a 3-series. The job & vehicle are irrelevant!
As for being 'saddos' - without these people doing their jobs, you wouldn't be able to buy goods in the shops..
I have to drive 1000 miles across Europe tomorrow to catch a ferry to Hull. Just wondering where?s cheapest to fill up. I?ll tank up before I leave Poland and enter Germany, but should I fill up in Germany before I enter Holland? And should I fill up in Holland before I board the ferry to the UK. I?ll be using 98 Ron.

Agree re Spanish fuel prices - at least on the Western Costa del Sol. Our local Esso station, which I have to pass every time I drive out of our urbanisation is currently 92.4 centimos per litre for diesel. The most I have seen recently is 94.6 cents.(I never look at petrol prices!)
We also have the advantage of being able to fill up in Gibraltar on occasions.
Mind you the price differential between Spain and "tax free" Gibraltar is rapidly closing - it is much less in cents per litre than it was even two years ago.

Against my advice, my daughter has bought a 99V 1.4 Tigra fitted with this motor. Should have gone for a Puma, but so be it. The engine is fitted with a secondary air system, which makes to underbonnet even more crowded than it would otherwise be. What does it do and what happens if I remove it?
It seems to essentially be an electric fan which pumps air into the exhaust manifold. I'm told that it helps to heat up the cat from cold start.
A friend who works for Ford at Dunton tells me that this and the EGR valve indicate duff engine design and that both are only there to get the economy figures up without the bother of a real effort to get the internal engine design right.
To cap it all, the engine suffers from an intermittent and dramatic loss of power, almost stalls, accompanied by smell of burning then suddenly it's ok again. No sign of burnt components visible, have changed ht leads, plugs and cleaned all visible connections. Also removed and cleaned EGR valve (total devil of a job) but no fix. Very intermittent and occurs under all conditions; high or low engine speed, during warm up and when at normal temp, on long or short runs and low or high ambient temperatures.
I've been told that there is an ECU upgrade for this engine; anyone know anything about this?
Thanx in advance. Read more
>>Well I'm sure your friend has no bias at all!<<
You beat me to it!
I think the ones showing the bias are you guys simply by mentioning it, you are like Arsenal and Tottenham supporters. Why does every one assume that people either love Fords and hate Vauxhalls or visa versa?
My dad was/is a Ford man though I had three Vauxhalls in a row and they all had their strong points, ok the '96 Vectra SRi was troublesome though the '98 V6 was fine, I currently have a Ford and get accused of banging the Mondeo TDCi drum though I only tell it as I see it based on my experience of my cars and others that I drive and not because I feel inclined to "support" old Henry.
No axe to grind.
Wouldn't mind the wife getting a Meriva, looked at a 3.0 CDTi Vectra myself. Prefer the Focus to the Astra, the Ford dealer 400 yds from my office is a big factor as is my experience of Ford dealers being simply more competant than Vauhall dealers.
Excuse the ramble.
HI
If I pay a deposit on a new car and use my credit card, Should I decide to cancel the deal would I be entitled to a full refund?
thanks

Credit card is irrelevant to this situation - you need to agree with the the dealer the liability, if any, on cancellation.
There are a number of driven plate faults which can cause this. Also there is the possibility of the driven plate not sliding along the splines of the input shaft correctly.
Pressure plates can fail so that they don't disengage fully all the way round - for example, if one or two of the fingers of the diaphragm spring break.
Slipping isn't the *only* reason ever to change a clutch.
