A316 To M3 beware - henry k
On the A316 westbound, there are road works just before the start of the M3.
Beware of last second lane changing at the start of the single lane contraflow.

Be aware of the poor temporary road signs.
I saw two near misses as drivers appear not to understand the sign saying M3 only or something similar and they suddenly switched to the outside lane.
I did not see any sign indicating that the M3 is also accessible via the Sunbury roundabout so I think drivers panic and think that only the offside lane links to the M3 hence the lane switching with no warning.

I will contact the council to point out the problem.

I was nearing the end of the contraflow heading west late last week when a driver (luckily several cars in front of me) decided he wanted to turn off at Sunbury and proceeded to stop before trying to turn left across the "slow" lane and go back to J1 !!

Needless to say he was totally oblivious to the near-miss and very angry drivers behind him - including me.....pity there is never a motorway patrol car handy when you need one.
