I?ve put 20 pounds unleaded in, how can I get it out? I've tried a manual small pump syphon and I've tried sucking on the tube to syphon. The tube goes into the tank about 2 feet but I'm having no joy I can see the fuel coming up the tube a bit only. Does anyone know if there is any sort of anti syphon filter or could I be doing something wrong? Is there some sort of technique or method any tips would be welcome

Not certain of Cavalier filler..But dont suck the pipe, awfull taste, suggest long pipe-install as much as poss into filler pipe into tank(assuming it does not have anti syphon)then block pipe with thumb/pull out pipe to below level of tank and let go into suitable container usually works unless as I said anti syphon is installed
or the pipe has a minor air leak preventing syphon

I *think* the Cavalier has an anti-siphon device fitted part way down the filler neck. The fuel pump on a 95 petrol Cavalier is on top of the tank, and can be accessed by first lifting up the rear seat base, then the carpet and plastic inspection cover. same might apply to the diesel. Wondering if you could disconnect the fuel pipe and connect another pipe on instead and a separate 12 volt feed to the fuel pump so as to use that to drain the tank?

Disconnected fuel pipe, 20 quid of unleaded and a seperate 12v feed do not mix very well, not unless you are very very careful.

All manner of fuel removal devices here :- www.justoffbase.co.uk/s.nl/sc.9/category.600/.f
i like the sound of Victorbox's method though.

Any thoughts from anyone that £20 diesel is about 22 litres and the Cavalier tank is about 63 litres to absolute brim.... so as this type of diesel engine is a relatively old design, would topping up with diesel to max let Samaid get away with it & not destroy the fuel pump etc?
|
... and I forgot to add that he keeps topping up with diesel several times after an amount of about 15 litres has been used up each time so as to keep diluting the unleaded even more.
|
filling rest of tank with diesel and then topping up every so often sounds best idea so far, im waiting till the weekend to decide what to try, the other idea with another 12volt feed sounds a bit dodgy, cheers everyone anyway, more ideas welcome

12volt feed sounds a bit dodgy,
Depends on how good your electrical connections are. Croc clips and tape are a no no, but covered crimp connectors attached to the fuel pump first, followed by a length of wire (incorperating a switch if you want) at a safe distance to the battery shouldn't pose any problems.
|
i have made up one of these with long electrical connections and long fuel pipes, ive got to say all cars after 93 when cats came in make most petrols impossible to syphon via the filler neck,im not sure with diesels as dont touch them (in relation to fuel syphoning for my own means ) in my job,but will add that the back seat up top off sounds good or the pickup pipe on the filter inlet under the bonnet would do if you disconnect it and then connect it to your pump, dont forget you cant put the fuel down the drain and will have to pay to dispose of it unless a friendly local garage wants it for any reason.

I filled one of these up with about 20 litres of unleaded. I topped it to the brim with diesel and it ran fine.

If you're going to try the dilute-and-hope route: mix-in half a gallon of really cheap [20W-50?] engine oil with the top-up diesel. That should restore the lubricity that the petrol is missing and, hopefully, help to protect the injection pump.
I've used that trick many times on old-style pumps and it's worked for me; but try it at your own risk. Can be a touch smokey on some.

put some veg oil in (as long as its not a lucas pump) i thin mine with petrol anyway
|
got it sorted cheers for all the help.in the end i took the fuel cap of and then pulled pipe of the bottom of the tank and let it run into 5 ltr can it took just over 6 cans put the pipe back on and filled with diesel.there was a little bit of spillage but not much about 2 cups full. just put some cat litter down to soak it up sorted.
