A colleague complained he was dazzled when following me into work. It was freezing fog conditions and poor visibility IMHO.
What takes precedence - the no dazzling or have to use the light under conditions of poor visibilty?

Whilst out this morning I called in to fill with fuel. On paying and returning to the car a gut in a black Audi parked at a pump opened his window and ask if I wanted a bargain and siad he ahd just finished a show and was left with a load of watches and didn't not have to account for them so if I wanted a £600 watch for say £100 then I can have one. I've heard of this con before and declined and walked away. He drove off and I was 30 seconds later. I droce about 1.2 miles and there is another petrol station, Yep you guessed it the same car in the forecourt. I drove passed stopped and rang the local police station. They had had several calls earlier today reporting this guy and some had been had. The police despatched a car. The guy drove past me 2 minutes later and I gave the police the registration number and the direction the car was travelling. He joined the motorway 5oo yds up the road so hopefully the police may catch him on the motorway. Well that's my good deed for the day. The watches of course are fakes. I have read about this con somewhere on the net. Watch Out There is a Con About. Regards Peter Read more

Henry K and Roly are correct in highlighting the world wide problem of non OEM spares in the aviation and oil business.

It just so happens that one part of my business means that I am responsible for purchasing millions of pounds worth of such items every year.

I repeat what I said above , would you be happy if the aircraft that you were flying in had counterfeit part in its Rolls Royce engine ?

Non OEM spares in the aviation and oil industry is a world wide problem.

In any industry where safety is paramount we buy nothing unless the correct certifications are in place , often not just from the manufacturers of the item but we also require details of the origin of materials used in construction and witnessing of tests by independent inspectors.

Apart from changing the belt at regular intervals are there any tell tale signs or noises to look out for?

No,bearing in mind some get this belt changed as and when they feel like doing it,or can afford it.usualy best to get replaced around 5k before, though it has been known for them to break before this!

Hello All.
I have a 2002 Pug 406 Hdi 110 estate with ML5 gearbox. The car has done almost 90000 miles and the hydraulic clutch takes up at the very top of the pedal. It is in my local independent garage for service today and I have asked them to see if clutch needs replacing. They look after the local taxis and warned me that they know of approx 40% of gearboxes blowing a hole in the diff casing after clutch renewal.
New box from Peugeot approx £1300.
Does anyone know of this and does it affect the BE3 or ML5 box? (The box has occasionally slipped out of 2nd when cold. Main dealers have said that they could not find a fault, even after having the car a week, or they all do that, you can't be changing gear properly!!!!)

If this is true, I will offload it ASAP as I do not want to take a financial risk.

TIA
John

Have you tried a lens cleaning CD in it? I had a problem like this on my Peugeot and they actually took it in and "Reprogrammed it" - I thought that was only locking and ECUs but it worked. Obviously a new one under warranty is a result but if you are looking to pay for one yourself a £5 cleaning disc might be a good first try!

Forum Astra VXR

A friend of mine has just ordered/bought a new Vauxhaul Astra VXR.I don't know much about Vauxhaul cars so I would welcome any comments about the deal, although its a bit accademic now.
Showroom tells him 5 month waiting list and there in demand but just happens to have one in stock that was a cancelled order. This one has special alloys and paint so its £20,000 plus with no discount, and he's offered and accepts £7000 for his immaculate 30 month old,19000 mile Vectra 2.2 SRi which cost him £19000 from the same garage. Is this a reasonable deal,to me this £12000 depreciation (or £400) a month and would be hard to bear,or are these VXR's that good? .

What exactly does anybody get in return for paying several
thousands more than they need to, that actually makes it worth
the money? It is a buyers market at present, as
there is a massive oversupply of cars, in general.

The guy got a brand new Vectra and the best part of 3 years worth of warranty. He shelled out £3500 of his 19K in VAT, which means the car was worth 15.5k tops when he drove it away.

OK, so he's picked the worst time to sell with a new model just in and the old ones heavily discounted. Large petrol cars have taken a further hit because of their declining market share as people move towards diesels and MPVs.

Despite this, the guy wanted the Vectra at the time and bought it. Then he wanted the VXR and bought it from a dealer he trusts. He's got a rare car that goes like the clappers. He keeps people in jobs and seems happy and provides the rest of us with second hand cars.

I'd rather see something I like and buy it with my own money than spend my time worrying about the wallet of someone I've never met.
Question 1999 - 206xs
chewymix

Bought this car recently and it runs strong and it appears(ed) to be a bargain. Noticed however that on starting from cold there is a rumble/squeal (squeal sounds like a fan belt but its not) that goes away if i depress the clutch even slightly. Does this sound like a clutch release bearing? Gear changes are fine and the noise seems to reduce once the engine is warm. The car has done 60,000 and no nothing excessive there and from what i can see from the book has full dealer service up to now.

Probably completely unrelated, but these cars do have an engine mounts problem - mine were replaced twice in 5,000 mls (I had a 2000 W back in May 2001)

I have to do about 300 miles mainly om motorways today.

To live up the journey I will add £1 for every VOSA vehicle I see. Doubled it if it is parked in a totally inappropriate and unsafe place such as the roundabout on the A43/M40 junction.

Minus £1 for any marked police vehicles I see (obviously expecting this to be nil) and the net will be donated to Leukaemia Research. Read more

I sometimes see if I can change lanes without touching the cat's eyes....

Seems easier to do it from right-to-left for some unknown reason!

Thommo

Just off to pick up the car. MOT yesterday straight through except split in exhaust needed welding £40 no biggie.

Quote from garage owner. 'Yeah virtually every car needs work on its exhaust every year now. Its them speed bumps.'

Sooner or later someone will get a court case past a local council and the hopefully we can start getting rid of these ridiculous things. Read more

I had to take to the kerb recently because of road
narrowing. In heavy traffic I needed to make a right turn but
the junction had been built out on both sides, effectively limiting it
to one vehicles width, although it still had a centre line.As there
were several cars in it I could not get through, they could
not reverse so the only option left was to mount the
pavement which gave me just enough room to get through. This particular
junction causes trouble all the time,I cannot see any logic to
it,what possible benefit is there to making a junction so narrow
it causes gridlock?

A very good question Sierraman. Perhaps the mayor of London and executives of many of its borough councils should be required to answer it.
emmacherie

Morning, i wonder if anyone could help me?
As most probe owners already know some have problems with the immobilisor, my partner has the above car and we know what the problem with the car is and we have the new distributor to fix the car, but before that is to be fitted we need to bypass the immobiliser... only problem is we cannot find a diagram for this ANYWHERE! .... does any1 happen to have this diagram or know where we can get hold of one? ... i'll be eternally grateful!!!

Sorry for gabbing on, but im a woman!

Thanks in advance Emma
