Help me as to what to do. Bought a lovely Honda Accord Tourer from a Honda main dealer last week. I love the car and got an excellent deal which I was happy with.
Car was advertised on dealer website as having full service history and was sold as "Honda Approved Used". Got home and noticed only one stamp in book. Stamped at 22,500 miles (car only done 22,600 now). This service was slightly early and done by dealer as the 25,000 service.
However, 1st service (12,500) not stamped and on enquiring of dealer, who has in turn has enquired of previous owner, 1st service was not done.
I was annoyed but they've offered to extend warranty to 3 years with a letter from them stating dealership will honour any item that fails that will not be covered by Honda warranty scheme if it were traceable to lack of 1st service. Also offered next service free.
I feel that the mistake was genuine by the dealer and I like the car. They have been very honest about the 1st service not happening and have not attempted to fabricate a story that it occurred. I suppose my question is should I take the car back for a refund (dealer have agreed to do this, they accept car was misrepresented) or accept what's happened and take a car which drives well with the increased warranty package?
What are the possible problems I could run into in the future if I (as always) am meticulous about maintaining servicing from now on? I appreciate there may be an effect on resale value but this will likely be minimised as I tend to keep cars for some time.
All advice much appreciated. Read more
Not a great state of affairs, but for once the dealre have been realy honest and reasonable about it all. So what I would say is given that its a petrol engine and assuming the oil was kept topped up, I dont think you will have any real problems, as long as the engine runs okay now. I've heard far worse non-service stories than this. You could, I suppose go after some compensation to keep the car.
My Vectra has had a bit of a hard life , speedramps and general wear and tear . its now on 125,000 miles and feels like a jelly at speed. The garage has said therees no wear in the roll bar bushes and the shocks seem fine . Its still on original front shocks and springs but has new rear shocks only due to one leaking about 6 months ago . Any help here please ? Read more
Ok cheers guys !

Can you sleep a family of four in a Formule 1 hotel room ? The website specifically says three, although they must be extensively used by familes. Are they unstaffed? I'd hate to fall foul of a French jobsworth. Read more

I'd guess you should move the lever away from the centre of the car.Spray everything in sight with WD first.

I wasna fu but just had plenty.
This evening I arrived home to find an unknown car parked in our driveway. Basically I have a flat in a large house divided into flats, and the front drive is shared by 3 people. But the car belongs to a neighbour i.e. not a flat owner. Apparently in the past a neighbour routinely parked in our driveway.
So, is there anything we can do about this?
The police are no use as they don't want to know.
I would tend towards letting down the tyres. But they would just do the same.
Having a 'quiet word' is the preferred choice and we are blocking his car in so that when he comes to the door, we can use rational argument, hohum, as pursuasion.

Sorry, I read it as if the 4x4 was on the highway/road
I'm going to have about £1,000 to spend on a car.
I would like a medium size car (escort sort of size), 1.4 or 1.3, comfortable (i'm 6ft) and something that has a bit of zip in the engine department.
Any suggestions? Read more
you will be lucky to find a car under a grand with service history that is up to date. The best place to spend that kind of money is either autotrader or a good auction with genuine p/x main agent unwanted cars.

How long do spark plugs last?
My manual says change every 18K or 12 months, but do they deteriorate with age (and not use)?
Where is the cheapest place to buy?

If the engine and it's management system are both in good condition, spark plugs should last a very long time. There are some items, like oil change, that I halve the manufacturers recommendation but for spark plugs, I'd stick exactly to schedule.
Lengthened change intervals are normally accompanied with increased number of electrodes on the specified plugs. using a replacement plug with fewer electrodes is asking for trouble.
I personally just fit Bosch 4-way plugs, they seem to outlast the car!
My Audi A6 2.5 TDI will start each morning but after a run and 3 hours or so standing it takes 10 or more turns to fire. The glowplugs are fine so it is probably some engine management sensor. My garage has not been able to pinpoint the problem. Has anyone suggestions as to what it might be?

A friends car (Seat Ibiza)had a similar problem recentley that turned out to be the waterpump (yes I did say waterpump!!!) The WP bearings were dramatically failing, although the pump was not actually leaking. This caused a variation in diesel injection timing that meant it took 10 more turns to start when warm. When cold starting was much better, probably due to the operation of the glowplugs.
When the cam cover was removed and the engine started you could see the WP drive pulley moving around violently. The diesel rattle was masking the noise. I have no idea why it wasn't leaking, the coolant level had not dropped!!. We quickly turned the engine off!! and it wasn't started again until a cambelt kit and new waterpump were fitted. Starting now fine.
LUCKY ESCAPE!!, the car had driven over 100 miles in this state!!
Check any thing that could affect the diesel timing. E.G. was the cambelt changed recently?
For some months now there has been a pick up truck parked on the road in a residential area near where I live. I am aware that it has not moved during that time as I have constantly had to drive round it.
Ten days ago I happened to walk past it and noticed that the license disc ran out in October 2005.
Feeling perhaps a little guilty I reported it on the DVLA website and lo and behold, today it has gone.
As a law abiding tax payer I think that is result.
Well done DVLA. Read more

It's all very well, but the increased demand resulting from this illegitimate use could put up the price. It's not very fair on legitimate users. ;-)
