Dude - {P}

Have checked H.J`s car x car details of the above model, but not too much info given.

Has anybody on the forum any experience or better still own a 2006 2.0R with the 160 bhp engine.
How reliable are these vehicles and are they really so bad on fuel economy?????

I have checked J D Power survey for 2005 and the Forester came 42nd and the Impreza 49th, with no mention of the Legacy at all.

I thought these cars were extremely reliable so how come they feature so poorly in this survey.???? Read more

Happy Blue!

Brand new non-turbo engine producing almost as much power as the old 2.0 Turbo engine in my Forester (175bhp), and probably better economy and torque characteristics. Likely to be extremely reliable.

Espada III - well if you have a family and need a Lamborghini, what else do you drive?

Pootling along to reach work at midnight for a distance of 46 miles ,maximum speed 50mph on A roads and all but approx 2 miles on a steady speed with the cruise control on, this is the average achieved!

Now how accurate is this, sounds fantastic but is this a reflection of the actual engine fuel consumption.

Any comments on this.

I drive a similar car, a Passat 130, and in similar circumstances (20 - 30 miles of A road, behind a queue of traffic going just fast enough and enough traffic coming the other way to prohibit overtaking) I had 62 mpg showing. Was it true? No way. My trip computer is about 6% optimistic.

The only way to know is brim it and use a calculator.

Depends on week & whether I'm in office/customers sites or working from home. So somewhere between £ 0 - £150-£160.
This week busy one so may exceed that.

Sorry to start another thread, but have just been doing a little more car-hunting in my quest for a car as-dependable-appliance.

I thought that a Toyota Corolla automatic would be outside my price range, but have found one for only £1000 more than the sort of prices on offer for a similar age Almera (2004), so I have been wondering if that's worth thinking of. The Corolla has 25,000 miles rather than the Almer's 10,000 but otherwise the two look similar.

I know some people would probably tell me that the Corolla looks better/worse or has better/worse handling, but I'm really not interested in that, so please spare me :)

So far, on paper the Toyota seems to be cheaper to insure (about £80 a year less), but fractionally thirstier (1mpg, according to the manufacturers).

The things that would attract me to the Corolla are that it is roomier inside (particularly in the back seats), and also rather quieter (which is nice), plus that it has buttons for its heater/radio controls rather than the Nissan's overly complex screen-driven system ... but the Corolla doesn't sound as reliable as the Almera, though still better than average.

So I'm wondering if it's really worth spending an extra thousand on a car with more miles on the clock? Any advice? Read more

mare

i went past a house last night that had a Corolla AND an Almera in the drive.

Tricky choice obviously!

I'm filling in a v62 form for dvla and I have to fill in the chassis, frame or vin number, it says on the form its on a plate by the engine. There is a plate on the front which has rover group limited on it and it has 5 numbers and then a letter and it also has something with 11 letters and 6 numbers, which is the 1 I need to use? Its on a metro.
Many thanks Read more

Looks like I could fit the CD changer into either of these two spots in my Saab 900. I've never had a CD changer in a car before (cue violins) - where is the best place for this thing to live? Read more

Would someone explain what a casette adaptor to a MP3 player
is.
Does it then play through the speakers ?.

Yes, it is essentially just a normal cassette, except it has a wire running out of it with a headphone jack on the end (which you plug into your MP3 player, minidisk, cd player, etc).

Here's a picture for clarity

'Cheddar' - well there was no 'camera' involved!

I was driving north up the M5 last night on cruise at about 75 mph a couple of miles before my exit, Burnham on Sea. I could see blue flashing lights behind me though they were only catching very slowly, I thought it might be some kind of escorted convoy. As they came closer I realised it was a chase, there was an M plate Fiesta wandering back and forth across the carriage way at about 80mph stopping a marked police Mercedes estate and plain Omega estate with lights in the grill from over or undertaking it, for an instant I thought shall I be a hero - only for an instant mind! As the three cars passed me the Fiesta dived for the exit that I was about to take so I followed the three cars off the m/way and onto the A38, a marked Focus estate came screaming up to the roundabout and just missed getting ahead of the Fiesta then a marked Vito flew past me with blue lights flashing, that was the last I saw of the action, an intersting end to a long journey though. The only time I've seen an Omega behind me with lights flashing behind the grill it was for my benefit ~ if benefit is the correct word!

Incidentally, there must be some cars that either don't have a grill in the right place or have no room behind the grill for fitting lights. Aren't the manufacturers of these missing out on any opportunity of them being bought as pursuit cars?

Thinking of fitting an HID kit in the original (i.e. non HID) lamps. In Backroomers' opinions, are the original headlight housings and lenses likely to be able to cope with the upgrade?

The kit suppliers say it's fine. A cynic might say they would!

If you order the correct bulb for your lamp (H1, H7 etc) then they will sit in exactly like the halogen bulb. The pattern doesn't automatically change when you swap to HID, its just that the HID is brighter. It will still illuminate the same things the Halogen did...only better.

You would be surprised how well you can see into the treads of HGVs in front of you and even check for corrosion inside the back box of cars 8-)
