MOT emissions test fail - bmw 318i - adam f
i have a 1996 bmw 318is coupe. went for MOT and it failed on emissions. took the car to a garage and they said it needed a LAMBDA sensor. had this fitted, took car for retest and it has failed again on emissions. what do i need to have changed now. your help is appreciated

MOT emissions test fail - Andrew Moorey (Tune-Up)
Treading a dangerous path here but given the lack of emission figures I am going to assume that the vehicle failed its test on the 'Lambda' calculation being out of spec. The workshop through ignorance have replaced the Oxygen sensor as it carries the misnomer of 'Lambda' sensor. Likely cause of high 'Lambda' on emissions sheet can be as simple as a leak in the exhaust pipe causing excess oxygen to be sampled by the MOT analyser. The station is required to give you a printout of the test results, post them up and we can help.

I have also failed emissions test in the stae of califorina and I am wondering where to start in terms of getting my car to pass. I have a 1995 BMW 318i 4door manuel.
