Just noticed unusal problem with the PAS fitted to my 97 Mondeo.
If i go full lock either way and hold it against the stop i can feel very slight intermittent pulsing thru the wheel inconjuntion with this i hear what appears to be belt slippage from the PAS pump. Of the 2 directions right lock is worse and feels at times as if i have not achieevd full lock. When the car is moving unless i go full lock it doesn't happen and is definately worse if the car has been sat overnight as i hear belt slippage on the slightest movement.
The PAS pump is driven off the injection pump fly wheel and was changed with the cambelt about 10K ago.
I,ve just swapped the front and rear tyres as the fronts were starting to wear and have the same make of tyre on all 4 corners
No visible leaks and the pump reservoir is at the correct level. The fluid has not been changed since i've owned the car ( Nov1999) and to my knowledge is the factory original.
I am thinking eithe pump or rack, but as it only happens on full lock am a bit confused. Read more
would and how long would an exhaust bandage on top of gungum last on the consertina part of the downpipe? you see the car failed due to the said part of the pipe blowing and the tester told me to pack the offending item with gungum and wrap an exhaust bandage arount it and, so long as it isnt blowing, he would pass it. i only need it to last a couple of days so as to get a chance to buy a new one. what do you guys think? i always appeciate any response. Hello owners of the espace diesel 2.2dci. I gather that most of you who own one have come across the slight problem of loss of power? Am I right? Of course. Let me guess you have had the following done by your local or nearest renault dealer
1/ Egr valve 2/ Egr valve pipes 3/ Turbo 4/ injectors 5/ Fuel pump 6/ Reprogramming of software. 7/ Anything else that I have missed.
I want to help you people as I am sick of seeing these flipin espace's in the workshop for the same fault and getting my ears chewed by customers and bosses who moan because it's not fixed. Few things straight Software updates come out occasionaly so any info you hear about it will be mostly rubbish. We know what renault are doing so please be patient and don't have a go at us because if we were not here who would fix your cars!!! To all the loyal and patient customers of renault I appoligise and understand how you feel but we are working as hard as we can. Anyone who can give me good strong info on what your car is doing that I can use would be great. Also any rumours would be great. I will try to help as best I can. Read more
Just thought I'd let you know that this problem appeared on my 2004 Scenic DCi 100 a few months back (loss of power under moderate throttle)- I had the following replaced:
1. Turbo
2. EGR valve
3. Throttle potentiometer
4. Software upgrade
5. Catalytic converter (?)
The EGR valve and cat were done at the same time, and fixed it for around a month or so, then it went wrong again. As it was a lease car, the lease company eventually replaced it (six months after this all started), and the new car is okay so far.
*frantically touches all wood within reach*
I too would *love* to know what it is that causes this problem and how it's fixed!
Several times my alarm has gone off for no apparent reason. The dealer says he had reprogrammed it but if it happened again I need a new ECU ! Of course it happened again yesterday. Anybody know how to disconnect the siren? Read more
Switch the internal alarm off at night and see if it still goes of,Something as simple as the air vent open or a fly can trigger Merc alarms
Car is run for daughter to use during her royal visits from Uni in Summer.
Failed MOT as both rear sidelights were u/s. I recalled I had noticed one faulty 4 weeks earlier, and as she dropped me off for holiday had given her £20 and told her to take it to local garage to have bulb renewed.
She took it to a major chain of tyre/exhaust specialists, who fitted 2 new bulbs and told her the fuses must have blown. Can this be one of the few cars which has arrived with 1 fault and left with 2. I know bulbs can be confusing, but how can you make a mistake (5w 2 contact fitted instead of 5W single contact) when you have the old ones as patterns AND one of them worked when you arrived?
Rant over.

Does anyone know the law with respect to children being belted up in a car? I am particularly concerned to know whose responsibility it is to ensure the child is properly belted.
I have heard that it is the driver's responsibility - NOT the parent's. In other words if an offence has been committed, the driver is at fault. Read more

What\'s for you won\'t pass you by
Thanks for that Stuartli, especially when I scrolled down and saw the table setting out who is responsible in the event of any transgression.
Im selling my trusty cavalier to enable me to buy a golf mk2 gti, im looking and i prefer the small bumper model i.e up to 1989 3 door but only problem is what type of engine the standard 8valve or the 16 valve? which out of the two is more reliable or any known faults i should be looking at when buying either model?
i had an insurance quote for a 16v and it was only 270 quid a year fully comp. so insurance is not a problem as im an old git at 35! (lol)
anyway any help and advise is appreciated.

Anyone seen one?
It's an A4 sheet of paper which everything printed on - no handwriting at all. There's even a little peel off sticker with all the details on which you stick in your car to remind you of the next MOT. Even has a barcode on.
Looks like the computerised MOT is finally here.

I'd just like to welcome the UK MOT certificates into this century. We've had a computerised system in New Zealand for several years now, not just for Warrants of Fitness (MOTs), but for Motor Vehicle Registration (Road Tax) and change of ownership. Whew! It took you long enough. You should soon start to see a reduction in 'dodgy' MOTs as forgery becomes more difficult. Oh, and as it's now so simple, you should probably look at having MOTs every six months, as they are here, especially as the environment there is much harder on cars.

With respect those who also participate in Pepipoo, it seems a bit childish in the fora, so can I have some advice please...
Wife in work a few days ago and gets a call to say number two child, on a day trip with youth club, has been sick for no apparent reason - please collect him from a place 20 miles away. SHe is driving her car, but for a variety of reasons, her car is registered in my name and vice-versa.
So, she goes to collect No. 3 child from creche, who was due to be collected 1/2 hour later anyway and goes to get the poorly boy.
She gets done doing 39 in a 30 on a lightly trafficked road. Do you think if she went to Court, she would get off with a fine if she pleaded mitigation?

They have this scheme in the Thames Valley as a pilot - i think Iheard that it was going to be rolled out to other areas as it had been judged a success. SWMBO has gone on one - they were doing it only for people who were caught soing6 mph over the limit. 5 mph or less - OK: 7 + mph - NIP without the option.
UPDATE.
Fault fixed, lower bolt which bolted the slidig arm assy that is used to tension the belt was missing so in effect allowed the arm to sit free of the diesel injection pump. There was no way to securly tension the belt.
Replaced the bolt and the belt, re-tensioned the belt and works fine, no noise,no intermittent feed back to the steeering wheel.
