The Office has acquired one as a new pool car.

Spent some time with it and its ok actually.

1400cc with battery assist. (!) A Japanese made Honda well and solidly built, leather interior, climate and CD player as standard, as well as heated seats ! Plenty of room for four adults and a Star Treck dashboard. Cheap to tax and CC exempted (so I'm told). Currently returning 50 mpg despite being "hammered". First impressions are of a normal petrol car. (Remember to depress clutch or it won't start for some American reason), silent tick over (ad to check rev counter to confirm it was running), Gear change is the best around that I've driven of late - the charge/assist graphics are a bit distracting at first and the tyres are a bit noisy (compared to the BMW) it pulls well in all gears, I found the cliamte fans a bit noisy. One of the guys in work commented that it may be complitcated and expensive to repair when it goes wrong - bit its a Honda for goodness sake !

Handles flat, but I genuinely dislike the electric Power Steering which weights up oddly at parking speeds.

Quite where this fits in witht he Insight I don't know, but its a mainstream car which won't baffle you.

Buy one myself ? If it had a 2.0litre VTEC yes ! But it salves the corporate guilt to drive a green car and its ok.

Oh and you can overide that Auto Stop thingy by careful reference to the Britannica type manual. Read more

I was away when the deal was struck, there was no part ex (they didn't want the knackered Astra !) so this may have been a factor. Used it today, couldn't figure why my bluetooth wouldn't sync (til I figured i was in the wrong car) no reverse sensors which is becoming a mental issue for me. Must be getting old.

Car goes in for routine service. Ford -

a) forgets to put the undertray back on
b) fails to plug an air regulator hose back in, giving the car erratic idle and rough peformance
c) takes two days to do the work
d) leaves the car dirty (they could have at least cleaned it with all that spare time)
e) went back twice before they admitted and put the undertray back on (a recent visit to an inderpendent dealer told they had done this incorrectly)

Is it just Ford or are all dealers this bad? (Please give opinion as customer service is important for new car)

Anyone got a story that bad? Read more

Focus badges (engine and models), as far as I can tell, were either ordered for factory-fitment, added on by an owner, or a dealer-fit option. There doesn't appear to be any logic as to why some have them and some don't.

A few days back I posted a note about the remote locking on my 1997 Ford Mondeo,1.8 diesel. With help from Adam & co I got it fix and was happy.....for 48hrs.

Now the locking has gone and turned on me.

The remote doesnt work again so I have to lock it using the key. No big deal except... When I lock the drivers side it unlocks itself straight away. Sitting in the car and locking it it does the same thing, only thing is the passenger side doesnt lock then open like the rest (straight away that is).

It does however lock all from the passenger side, whether its by key or inside the car.
Sometimes it sets the alarm, sometimes not.

I've srayed WD40 on every lock (boot and engine locks too), and made sure nothing is catching any locks.

Any ideas, or have I got a ghost in the car?

Better late than never. After the alternator the last strw on my Corsa 1.7 diesel was the ... sump. I'm told that at 85K it's corroded and must be replaced. That was it. I've ordered a Yaris.

I've just done this job on my neighbours Combo 1.7D van (Combo = Corsa van). It was quite easy. Using a pattern sump and getting £15 an hour for myself I still did the job for half what a local independant Vx shop wanted - ie £140 vs £270.

The Vx main dealer wanted £175 JUST FOR THE SUMP!! We left before even asking how much they wanted for labour!!

Noticed that it is French practice to keep the indicators on when staying in the overtaking lane. Not to do this seemed to invite flashing headlights from the vehicle behind , the driver of which seemed to think no indicators aha no overtaking.

As opposed to the 7 hours it took me to get
the 200 miles from Folkestone to Midlands last Friday!!

Amazing - it took me that long to drive from Grado/Italy to Budapest/Hungary late last week, through the rush hour and the Austrian mountains! Roughly 450 miles, but not including a couple of short stops for (fabulous and cheap) food.

This was in a 1200cc Fabia combi, fully loaded with four adults and luggage. Would have been faster had it not been for roadworks in the mountains. Still can't believe it. Quality of life is severely lacking in this part of the world, but that is for another forum ;o)

My company is giving me £150 to install a car kit in my car.

Does anyone know of good installers in the Glasgow area and what can I expect for my money?

That's a great price (£50 inc vat and delivery). You ought to be able to get it fitted for another £50 or so, or it's a pretty simple DIY job.

I've borrower an inverter to take camping, to re-charge the video recorder battery, tooth-brushes, etc. It *could* be used to power a 240v inspection lamp, but I've a few doubts about doing this in an environment which may be damp. Could a "power breaker" (RCD) be usefully used with this equipment? Read more

Right!

I've asked politely for this to be kept to motoring. Whilst JBJ did push the issue a little further, many of you seemed to ignore my request above with impunity.

The sponsers are supporting a motoring forum, therefore we as moderators need to keep the site motoring related. We do have a couple of threads that are non motoring related and we can organise e mail address exchanges for any members who find they have a common interest outside motoring.

Those who wish to discuss motoring may do so in this thread or any other thread, except the Computer Related Questions or IHAQ threads.

Those who have any questions about AC or DC etc may use the IHAQ thread.

The next non motoring post I see on this thread will get it locked!

There's been a fence being built between J11 and 10 southbound on the M1 for quite some time. There are speed restrictions down to 50mph which is fine if there are people actually building the fence but this seems very rare. They've only got a few panels left to put in, but that seems to have been the situation for the last few months.

Fortunately there aren't any cameras in the vicinity, otherwise I hate to think how many people would have been prosocuted for speeding whilst there are no workers to protect.

Has anyone any idea how much longer are they going to be at it?

Answering the question.>>

The Highways Agency IS the answer in the end...:-)

What's more, between Junctions 6a and 10 from next January, there's more work intended according to its website:

www.highways.gov.uk/roads/projects/motorways/m1/j6.../

and more planned from Junction 10 to 13, but no dates:

www.highways.gov.uk/roads/projects/motorways/m1/j1.../

Don't know if these will also affect you?

Had a look in every supermarket/hypermarket for VW 505.01 spec diesel oil for the past 3 weeks.

No luck. Own brand,Shell and Total dominated the shelves.

At least the 'gasoil' was cheaper at between 0.99 and 1.15 Euros per litre.

The wine was pretty cheap as well.

The Total oil was widely available to VW 505.00 but I was after the VW 505.01 stuff for PD engines.
My general impression was that oil was not hugely cheaper than the UK.
