Could someone of a legal persuasion comment on the right of police and local authorities to crush vehicles, in some circumstances? I am all in favour of it but what is the legal position with regard to the crushing of a vehicle which may actually be the property of a finance company and not belong to the person comitting the offence. Hi,
I've recently obtained a good (only done a few hundred miles) spare set of TRX tyres on rims (rims a bit scruffy) for my 1982 Granada. These tyres are hard to come by and if available are approx. £150 each!
Therefore I wish to store these tyres for about 5 years or so, when my current set will probably be worn out. I'm planning to take the tyres of the rims and store the tyres in the loft (I figure a dark, dry place is prbably best? Or should I leave them on the rim and pump them up extra hard? Is there any treatments I could spray on that could help preserve the rubber?
Also, anyone know of a good alloy wheel refurbisher in the Warrington area? I'm thinking of getting my spare set of TRX rims refurbished ready for shows next year.
Thanks

This is an extract:-
Following these few storage precautions will enable you to keep your winter tyres in perfect condition for when you come to use them again next year:
- Before taking your wheels off, note their position on your car. This will allow you to swap your front tyres to the back next winter, to balance their wear.
- Clean your wheels and tyres with water and dry them well to limit any corrosion.
- Remove stones etc. trapped in the tyre grooves.
If your tyres are mounted on rims, store them hanging up or lying down: if they are de-mounted, store them standing up or flat.
- Store your tyres away from light, ideally in a cool, dry area and above all, do not store them near solvents (fuel, oils etc).

Been having major problems with our Punto over the past month or so (get in car - turn ignition - nothing happens) - had 3 visits from AA to get it started , and various trips to the dealers who informed me that there was nothing wrong with it.
However , it now transpires that there is a water leak somewhere which is causing all the problems. The dealers have quoted me £1,000 MINIMUM labour costs and £300 MINIMUM costs for replacement parts etc to find where the water is getting in (they reckon they have to strip various parts of the engine and body etc)
Question is , is it worth paying out for this ? I reckon the car is worth about £2500....and I've already paid for a new ECU and exhaust in the past 6 months or so.
Would I be better to just sell the heap of junk for scrap ???! Read more
Good afternoon All,
I have a Toyota Liteace 2 Ltr Diesel Van (1993) which we use for deliveries, and recently we have noticed that when driven over 50 MPH the temperature gauge shoots up to the red. On reducing the speed the gauge slowly returns to around mid way. We have checked system and we are not losing water. We have replaced the thermostat, but still the same. We are not getting any smoke out the back of the van, so presume it is not the head. The Viscous fan appears to be working o.k. Is there anything we are missing, or can anyone shed any light as to why this may be happening, as we are getting flashed by Artics on the M25 for going too slow!!
Thanks in advance.

Hi there,
What you have listed and what I have read in this post seems fine.....but please, at least check the head and the block tolerance before changing her.
Also, you will need an angle measuring torque wrench as the bolts are stretch bolts.........have fun when you stretch them, if you have never done it before it can be quite uncomfortable.
WD40 is also a good idea the night before you start, spray it on the manifold bolts and the turbo bolts, these are oftern rusty and seized.
er...can not remember much else....did you say you were going to replace the cam belt? I hope so whilst you are there.
Richard W, I'm afraid I must disagree about the glowplugs, I always fit Bosch Duran, cost a little extra but are well worth the money, I have had mine fitted for over 3 years and she has never missed a beat.....
oh, coolant?
Driving through the Ardennes in Belgium yesterday I noticed on the motorways-dual carriageways signs indicating that HGVs not allowed to overtake or leave lane 1 during the hours of 06.00-10.00 and then 15.00-19.00.
Seems a good idea to me freeing up the lanes for us car drivers and commuters.
It works over there. Read more
I agree there there are idiots,Monday night M1 I saw 2 examples of middle lane hoggers whom seem completely oblivious to anyone behind them and they were not "old" drivers either.
They simply would not move into lane 1 despite a van flashing his headlamps,I also had to overtake in lane 1 to pass such an idiot.
Bring back the motorway patrols,in driving from Dover to Derby not one patrol vehicle seen.
Hi.Front tyres (currently Goodyear NCT5's) have around 1000 miles left in them.Tyre size (215/50 x 17) = £££££.Have had a good quote for Falken tyres (ZE512's) but not sure how good these are.Anyone recommend a suitable tyre? Michelins are around £150 a tyre.I know you usually "get what you pay for" but I am looking for a compromise Read more
You can fit 225/45/17's, there a lot cheaper cos there more common
Hello,
I have a 1997 C-Class (202 model code), and would like to have ISOFIX brackets installed. I have obtained a retrofit kit for my Volvo V40, but my Mercedes dealer thinks that no parts are available.
Has anyone got a 202 with ISOFIX brackets? Can it be done?
Best regards,

Which product is better for keeping the windscreen clear - Clearalex or Rain-x?
I have never tried Clearalex and in another thread BRers are sounding off about Rain-x, a rough guess gives about 10-1 against the use of Rain-x.
Should I try Clearalex - who sells it?

Good to find an ally!
Nothing seems to cloud the vision of the converted, except perhaps cataracts, dirty windscreens and Rain-X.

Intermittent fault with engine cutting out usually happens at low revs when approaching a junction or roundabout. When trying to re-start engine its starts and then revs drop almost immediately.
Leaving it to stand usually gets it started again but in an emergency have to place foot on brake increase acceleration and then put it in drive.
It will then pull away.
Engine has not stalled whilst in motion over 40mph but its frightening that this will happen.I have lost confidence with the motor which in all other respects is first class.
Is going in again to see if fault can be isolated today.
But as the last time it happened previously was almost 3 weeks ago I feel its going to be a pig to find the fault.

thankyou so much for that.everyone pointed to the idle and gummed up throttle body.
Cleaned out fully and was tacky and gummed.
Am fairly confident this will clear it as the Revs seem to be much more consistent

Thanks for that clarification DVD
