Hi all,

got an omega 1994 L. Brake light on n/s not working, but bulbs are ok. Tried 2/3 new ones. Is there a particular wire in the multiplug on back of light cluster to check? I think it's the bulb with 2 spots on the bottom. One for tail light, other for braking (correct me if I'm wrong).
I have a digi test meter, but am a bit new to fault finding with wiring.
Any pointers please?

Another time, if you can't get the right bulb holders and there' a break in the track, consider soldering in a wire link accross the break.

This method is used extensively in the defence electronics industry with PCBs that have cracked tracks.

Is there any reason (as if insurance companies need anything other than profit as a reason) why Insurance companies require cars over a certain value to have fully comp insurance?. Been shopping around for insurance on what I hope to be my next car and can't find an insurance company to quote a Third party or TPFT policy. Some state that cars over a certain value (usually £5-8K) must have fully comp.

Does anyone who knows more than I do about the insurance industry shed some light on this?. The car will be bought cash so no fianace company will have a interest in it and I just want the minimum legal requirements and I don't see how forcing me to have fully comp benefits the insurance company...aside from higher premiums paid into their pockets. If thats the case, why not just do away with TP and TPFT completely and only offer fully comprehensive policies. *rant mode off* Read more

Traders do usually have trade plates and a VAT registration No. but there are some who have neither!

Yes, that's right folks. Smokie has been given his very own edit button - which is a very rare and a sort after item on this site. More so than a Mondeo TDCi apparantly.

According to his profile he's been a member for quite some time now; drives a Vauxhall (which is a good thing); admits to towing a caravan occasionally (not such a good thing) and as far as I recall has never needed to be moderated by any of us before - which is most unusual.

Although new to moderating here, he's already familiar with the role elsewhere, so it shouldn't take him long to put his new buttons (yes, he gets more than one) to good use.

It'll take a day or so to set him up with an email account and the like, so please be patient before trying to contact him via that method.

Anyway, enough of my inane babble and witty crap repartee, I'm sure you'll all want to pass on your support and good wishes to him.

Let me be the first to welcome to you to the madhouse Smokie.

Dave.

ps, as with all new moderators, please be gentle with him for a day or two.

I have an intermittent fault, I hear 3 beeps, the ABS warning light comes on and the brake warning light flashes. It happens only when the car is warm or if I go to start it when it's been standing in hot sun. Thanks for any clues Read more

I have some old cars which I want to get rid of legitimately;cutting them up into little pieces seems like a good option, but which angle grinder do I need? Will the smaller size angle grinder with 4 and a half inch discs be enough to get through all parts of the car, or will I need the larger 9 inch one to do de job? I thought that too. Start worrying if he posts about replacing car carpet or even in the IHAQ thread for the biggest rolls of rugs/carpet money can buy.

You were warned.

I'm currently running a 2 litre primera so don't think the fuel cost will be a problem as well as we don't do much mileage anyway.

Can anyone give any advice with regard to chipping a Ford Focus 1.8 tdci 115ps engine. My main concerns are possible detriment to the engine and what chipping units are most suitable for this particular engine.

and through next week into the following weekend.

Stay away! Really do NOT consider attempting to travel on the A354 between Blandford and Salisbury. Ditto the A350 between Blandford and Shaftesbury. It's the Great Dorset Steamfair and from this afternoon onwards those roads will be at a standstill as fairground ride, hotdog stands, beer tents, steam engines, transporters, historic military vehicles and the like all try and shoehorn their way into the showground at Tarrant Hinton. From Monday this will be exacerbated by daily traders and the public turning up and departing. Next Saturday and Sunday will be the worst, but add at least 2 hours to any journey that requires you to use these roads for the next week.

Eh? It doesn't start until Wednesday the 31st, so how will
the public be turning up from Monday?

Most of the exhibits will be on site by Monday evening. With them come the traders that sell not only to the public but to the exhibitors. Most exhibitors have local friends who get in on exhibitor passes for the day, either for a pre-show mooch around or to help with setup. Trust me, it's bad.
