4 cylinder petrol jeep cherokee 101k miles regularly serviced and running well. Oil pressure is always maintained but when hot and 'pressing on' the oil pressure climbs (flutters) virtually off the clock. It is at its highest when the throttle is rolled off. There are no oil leaks or loss and no oil in the water.
I can't find an accessible pressure relief valve that I could clean and the manual is not helpful on this point.
I've tried ignoring it but it makes me anxious...Any advice??

Ask the supplying dealer what the score is. If it's not supposed to have security for the flap / cap then ask about the availability of a lockable cap and whether they're willing to discount the cost or throw one in as a freebie as you've just spent £XXXX with them....

Hi,

I need some help. I have a 1991 Sterling 827 SLi, made for the California, USA market. It has a catalytic converter. I want to adjust the timing which currently is 18º or 23º BTDC, depending on which timing instrument was used. The Haynes manual states that for use with unleaded gas, the timing should be 11º BTDC. It also says that for cars with a converter, the timing cannot be adjusted manually (the control boxes are different). Also, I was told that timing and other settings may need to be re-set whenever the battery is disconnected. Hopefully, setting the timing will correct a long time over-heating problem that I have had with the car, or, at the very least, will eliminate the timing as related to the problem. Other than that, the car runs absolutely great. All other remedies have been done, including flushing the cooling system, replacing the radiator and the thermostat and replacing the head gaskets. Is there a trick I can use or an ignigtion ECU interface I can get that will allow me to do the adjusting?

Thanks in Advance,

I'll be checking the lines and solenoids when I get my car back. I've read that it might not be adjustable, but I thought there might be a trick such as adjusting the timing belt a notch or two. Could I replace the ignition control box for the one with the timing adjuster? I know there might be emission control problems, but would it be the only item I would have to change? By the way, I could use a source for the speedometer transducer on this car. The dealer in London I was emailing bowed out when I couldn't provide a part number he could order it with. In New York there is a garage that will sell me one that will work, but he needs to change the connector. If I knew which transducer he was using, with a wire list I could change the connector myself. The transducer has, I'll check for sure when I get my car back, 4 wires and a 12 (about) position connector. The US Sterling part number given to me by two different companies that were suppling it is 88300045. The London dealer thought it might be YBE10040, but he didn't have one to describe the wiring and connector.

Thanks for your help so far.

Ok it's probably been discussed many times before but i'm looking for some fresh input.

A company car is looming around the corner so i need to sell my Mondeo. After weighing up the options i'm considering ebay as the only point of an advertisment.

Could you offer me any advice, antidotes, pitfalls, experiences?

What to do, what not to do, all that sort of thing. I have sold items on eBay before successfully but never a car.

Many thanks. Read more

Sorry to hijack the post, but do the majority of you
think that putting in a Buy it Now price positively influence
the buyer?

I'd say on something as expensive as a car, a buy it now price isn't realy a good thing. The reason being that if it is low enough to attract an immediate bidder it is too low, and if it is too high no-one will bid. However in an auction situation, provided you have set your reserve at a 'minimum' acceptable level, you may realise more if a couple of people are interested.

I have bought a sheet of Kaylan (a polyurethane material) to make a set of mud flaps similar to those found on WRC cars. I have a template and need to cut the sheet to make four flaps.

This stuff is not cheap - can anyone suggest the best method of cutting it? I dont think its rigid enough to cut with a jigsaw and is too thick to cut tidily with a stanley knife....

Is anyone familar with working with / cutting Kaylan?

Thanks in advance,

Repaired my Mondeo rear bumper last week. Bumper off, GRP patch on the outside deep enough to overlap 2 seperate cracks. Was going to patch the inside but the bumper is foam filled/backed so had to get the wood chisel out and big out enogh foam to allow a GRP patch to be applied to the inside. Let cure then sanded it down with Rough wood sandpaper to feather edges. Fitted the bumper and resprayed all in a day.First applied a plastic primer that aids paint adhesion, primed with a filler primer ( numerous coats), and finished with metallic and lacqeur Job finished, no sign of it ever being cracked.Cost £17 for the GRP kit and £10 for the metallic paint and a days labour in the garage. Cheapest cost on the internet £115 supplied painted.

Got a squeak on the front of my MK 2 Golf, had it for ages it doesnt get any worse and its intermittent.

Often comes on when I have turned the wheel right or left, but always goes off if I depress the brake pedal, often comes on again immediately I take foot off brakes or disappears for a while. Car just MOT'd last week and all brake pipes replaced, squeak mentioned to mechanic but he said he couldnt find anything wrong and didnt hear anything when he drove it. Steering bushes not faulty either

Anyone any ideas????? Read more

ADAM what are brake shims

Thin strips of metal that sit between the brake pads and caliper. They're actually called anti squeal shims - for obvious reasons.

I've actually read the info on the DVLA site and still can't get my head around a couple of things. If I am just exchanging a paper licence for a photo one do I still need to get someone to countersign the back of my photos and application like a Doctor, Mayor or the Pope?? Also Do I need to send them my passport and other ID with the application?

Also is it the case that when renewing your photo licence every 10 years you need to pay a fee to do so??

It's only for a change of address due to having got my insurance at a different address, but it looks like such a palava I'm tempted not to do it at all. Read more
