Have to drive from Rochdale to Devon tomorrow. Is the traffic likely to be as terrible on the M6 as I think it's going to be? I can put the journey off until the evening if necessary.

There are roadworks between M6 j17 and j16, these were really nasty last weekend so i wouldn't want to think about what they'll be like on a bank holiday

I try to avoid going out on a Bank Holiday but when I have done I have always found the motorways to be relatively quiet. Unless there's a big event on somewhere, everyone has already got to where they're going last Friday or Saturday and they'll be going back (mostly) next Staurday morning. A few will be heading home on Monday.
Good luck, take a road atlas and be preapred to go for the A roads.

M5 southbound has been terrible on the approaches to Bristol for weeks, but as previous poster has observed, most holiday makers would have gone down on Saturday or will be coming home on Manday.

You should be OK - most of them, especially the caravans, should be going the other way.
