New MOT Certificate - Adam {P}
Anyone seen one?

It's an A4 sheet of paper which everything printed on - no handwriting at all. There's even a little peel off sticker with all the details on which you stick in your car to remind you of the next MOT. Even has a barcode on.

Looks like the computerised MOT is finally here.

Well from what I've read on here, it's all been a bit of a farse, with loads of bugs to iron out which has prevented roll-out for some time.

I think there's a website for online checking of MoT situation of cars, but I foget the URL.

I'm not going to hold my breath.

Just got my mums car MOT'd and it back with an old style certificate, expiry in August 2006.

It's not been fully rolled out then I guess. My Dad's is the new style one but mine from a few weeks ago isn't.

Can't say I'm too bothered either way - apart from the barcode, not that much has changed.

Your Dad Adski is now one of the priviledged few.

Providing he has a Debit Card you can sit at the computer and re-license on line.

The major difference is that with a computerised MoT cert you can use the online renewal facility for road tax.

Now that will be pretty damn good. Could this be a new scheme that is welcomed by the majority of people?

Just think - no more queues in a PO only to be told when it's your turn that it's time for elevenses or some other such antiquated reason to shut down the counter.

Fantastic!

Aye, and one more reason to close down rural Post Offices/Shops..

The one I was given recently for my motorbike has the mileage hand written on it as the tester forgot to fill the appropriate box in before printing off the certificate.

I'd just like to welcome the UK MOT certificates into this century. We've had a computerised system in New Zealand for several years now, not just for Warrants of Fitness (MOTs), but for Motor Vehicle Registration (Road Tax) and change of ownership. Whew! It took you long enough. You should soon start to see a reduction in 'dodgy' MOTs as forgery becomes more difficult. Oh, and as it's now so simple, you should probably look at having MOTs every six months, as they are here, especially as the environment there is much harder on cars.
