what advantage does it give to the disabled driver to be
parked nearer to an entrance?

In the case of my Dad who has dificulty walking any great distances, it means that he hasn't got to trudge the whole car park to get to the shop. Thus gives him the ability to walk right around the whole shop without the need of a wheelchair. Read more

Will disabled badge holders please STOP using the dedicated PARENT AND
CHILD spaces in supermarket car parks.
You've got plenty of your own spaces - stick to them!

Cardiff Tesco Extra (adjcent to A48).
The car park attendant advised me one busy morning that if all the disabled bays are in use (as they were at the time) I could use a Parent & Child bay as long as I displayed my Blue Badge.

So I ONLY use the dedicated PARENT AND CHILD spaces in supermarket car parks when the disabled bays are full BUT ONLY after checking with the attendant or store customer service desk.

Hi,

I have a VW Golf GTi 1996 and I plugged in the diagnostics computer in today to find the error message:

00515 - Camshaft Position (Hall) Sensor (G40)
16-10 - Signal Outside Specifications

Is this likely to be the sensor connected to the Distibutor or is it likely to be more serious? Also will this be the reason that the rev limit kicks in at 5,000RPM? How difficult are they to replace?

Any help is much appreciated.

i think your car has got a seperate camshaft position sensor, the plug for it is usually located on the side of the head, not too far from the camshaft timing belt wheel.

My girlfriend's 1996 Corsa 1.2 (85,000 miles) needs an MOT, and I think it could do with a decent service as I'm not sure what the previous owners had done.

When does the cam belt need changing on these engines? And is there an easy way to check if it has been changed or due for changing soon?

Also what should be covered by a full service, and how much should I be looking to spend?

Thanks for any advice :)

As Blinky says.

Only by previous service records. If you haven\'t got the service book, the garage that has done previous services should have a record.

Vauxhall will have 2 service policies for your Corsa:-
Every other year, (ie, yrs 1, 3, 5, 7, etc) just the oil and filter, then a general look around the car. This is classed as an interim service.
Inbetween each of those years (ie, yrs 2, 4, 6, etc) oil & filter, air filter, plugs, check over brakes and adjust if necessary, replace brake fluid (Sometimes they don\'t ask, and you have to request it). Other bits and pieces as well. This is classed as a major service.

I should point out that if you do high mileages, then the service interval is shorter than a year. It all depends on whichever comes sooner.

Try seeing if there is a Masterfit local to you.
vauxhall.co.uk/masterfit/index.jhtml
Interim Service = £65
Major Service = £110
Major Service & MOT = £130

I would appreciate advice on dealing with damage caused to my car by a car wash (automated machine type wash) in Cirencester - it wrecked the boot lid.
I have tried claiming off the garage's insurers but they have denied liability.
They and the garage also deny that this has happened before - which of course I do not believe. In fact the manager of the car body repair shop said that he gets lots of cars in with damage caused by car washes.
Does anybody know of any cases where people have successfully recovered the costs of the damage from the car wash owners, or how I find out if this has happened to other people in Cirencester recently? Any other advice or news on similar experiences welcome.

My Mondeo TDCi 130 is going in for its first 12500 mile service this week. The local agents are offering this oil at a £10 premium. Is it worth it? Are there any advantages/disadvantages?
Thanks, Graham Read more

Regarding the Polo:

Don't get too carried away trying to cure the tappet tapping noise with thin oil. At some point of wear/cold the big ends will start to knock lightly when cold with thin oil, b.v. Sinter Gold. This is much harder to detect than the tappets, but much worse for your engine. New tappets, or a tappet re-build would be the way ahead IMO:

Then the recomended oil, as mentioned.

Hi Guys, long time since I have posted on here.

The standard CD player that came with the Laguna has given up so I am on the look out for a decent one. I want though to keep the steering column control and the dash display, I have been given ?expert? advise from halfords, and they have told me that if I want to keep the control and display, then only Sony will allow me to do that (which is fair enough because that?s what I will be buying anyway) but I will have to purchase a cable of them for a extra £50!!!!!!, yes £50, and then fitting on top of that, so I want to do it all my self.

I was wondering, if anyone can tell me where on the net, they could recommend buying a cable from. And the necessary tools I need to remove the old CD player.

Cheers

Stephen

Hi,
If you are buying a sony you need to be spending around £200 in halfords, sony 5000 series or higher.
You need to check the unit you buy has the remote port (small hole with a blue collar insert) and if you want the display to work you need it to have a cd changer port ( bigger hole with a kind of w shaped insert). The cd changer port is what they use to make the display work, but you can still fit a changer at a later date as the display interface works "in line".
The manufactures that make these leads are connects2 and autoleads but i dont think these sell to the public.

If you can do without the car display ( all the info you would expect still comes on the radio display)you can fit a lead that just works the steering controls which is about £30 but you will be able to choose a cheaper stereo without the cd changer port.
hope this helps.

Howdy,

I've recently had my Fabia Comfort (X Reg - 2000) serviced by the local Skoda garage and ever since then I end up with wet carpets on the passenger side whenever it rains.

I've removed the glove box and can see that the unit behind (looks like a turbo fan but most likely the heating fan) is leaking water. It's not actually from the fan, but from a flap type object behind it.

Does anyone know where I can get a workshop manual to tell me how to take this thing apart, or indeed how to stop the water from getting into the ventalation system?

Thoughts appreciated,

Skoda owner

HI,

To save you time and money of the garage and also removing parts of the glove box etc.

The is rubber flap that is a quiet not known about that you can get to and save all the money, I only know about the place by really digging on the web.

Look for the ECU and see if the material just blow is wet then get you hand and feel around that area and you will feel 2 flaps of rubber.

Open them and place your finger in and feel and around. You may here a lot of water falling and rubbish as well.

I should have my passenger side dry by the summer.

From reading about the fault it mite be worth while taking out the glove box, due to the foam tray that's sits below it full of foam and I think WIRES.

One way of knowing that you have the fault is that the battery may go flat, Air bag light may be on, and other interesting thing may happen as well. My Alarm and flat battery happened and now the air bag light is on, I will wait until it dry and then get the faults reset. It also may of got my horn not to play.

Have a look and it is a easy one to fix.

Many thanks.

Has anyone here got any advice on how best to protect the paintwork of a car? For some time now I have used the Autoglym range of products, in particular the Super Resin Polish. Car looks like new for a few days but it then starts to loose its shine again. Worse still, if it rains watermarks appear on the car (the bonnet in particular).

However, one of the guys in work advised me not to use this product after washing because it is a polish. I should use a wax first, and then a polish ..... but the instructions on the bottle don't mention using wax, they just suggest using their product to wash the car (which I do) and then after drying apply the polish.

Im now confused and after spending about an hour in Halfords last night trying to select waxes, polishes etc. I left empty handed. Read more

Dynamic Dave

Dave - pleeeeeeeze don't use Mer too much, on the new
car - it's a POLISH, not just a wax.

Don't worry, I'm an only twice a year man when it comes to polishing the car. The only other time the MER comes out the shed is to remove stubborn marks, such as tar or light scratches from branches sticking out at the side of the road.
