I was wondering if anyone knew of a garage that would give me one of these? My car was involved in an accident quite a while ago now, where the other driver was un-insured. The only way I can get any kind of money back is through obtaining one of these as I refuse to pay out the amount it will cost to fix my car and then try and claim the money back. So far all the garages I have spoken to will only give me a quote for work and an estimate on parts. This leaves me in a catch 22 situation where I can\'t get a proformer unless the work is done and i wont get the work done unless i get a proformer. If anyone knows anything regarding how to obtain one of these without having to fork out money up front it would be great if they could let me know. Read more
My Seat Arosa (2004/04) has got very poor radio reception. I have taken it to the dealers who have replaced the aerial and roof mounting and the cable from the back of the stereo to the aerial. This did not work and the reception is still bad. Next week they will repalce the radio/CD and amplifier. Has anyone heard of the same fault? Read more
You can adjust the sensitivity of a wireless, such as a portable, if you know what to do - ask a friend whose savvy in this direction.
I "tune" my various portable radios to improve reception as the factory settings are often a bit slap happy.
Re the Seat Arosa - don't know if Seat uses the same ICE products as other VAG models, but my Bora's Gamma system picks up MW with excellent clarity during the day and very little fade at night.
In fact I also have to turn the volume down on MW if I've been listening to Radio Two or other FM stations and switched over to Radio 5 Live.
Interesting to note the most expensive repair, in today's published results of latest reliability survey by Warranty Direct - £6696 for premature failure of auto g'box on 1998 Jaguar XKR at 70k miles! Strewth. And, sadly, Land Rovers came bottom of the table.

I like the **£152.75* per hour charged for labour by a London BMW dealer. The mechanic\'s stop for a crafty fag would empty your wallet on it\'s own.

Oh but isn?t the ?horribly unreliable piece of automotive history? what
it?s all about? Anyone can drive a reliable, predictabable, safe,
boring, FWD, Honda? But wouldn?t the wild, far better technology
(at least by design) of a mid-engine RWD be a HELL
of a lot more fun?!?! I would much rather have
the engine die on the side of the road in a
car like the Renault mid/RWD than just keep going in a
boring Honda FWD? I mean this is board about cars
correct?? Not amusement park rides??
Fair point, well made.
:o)
Folks,
My Vauhxall main dealer is quoting this for an o/s/f ABS sensor.
Does this sound fair for this component? I suspect not!
Does anyone know of an alternative outlet for genuine parts? The Monterey is a rebadged Isuzu Trooper. Isuzu main dealers are even dearer for most things..
Cheers

The Monterey isn't listed on their site, but they *might* be able to help you.
Having visited Wickes in Plymouth (Exeter Street branch) every working day for a few days now, I have noticed up to 6 cars to be clamped.
There are notices warning of the likelihood of clamping cars belonging to people who use the car park but are not customers of the store.
Well, I honestly thought blood was going to be spilt today. Once chap came in, having just bought some items from the store, complaining about being clamped. Whickes say, and I believe them, that it was not their decision to get the clampers in but that of the the landlord of their premises.
Aparently, this gent had parked in the car park, left the site to go and get some money, then returned to buy something from the store and then notice he had been clamped.
As I left, a Wickes staff member was with this chap trying to reason with the clampers and no progress had been made. I have never felt such an urge to commit assault on two individuals in my life as I saw the clampers siting in their little van laughing!
So if you're in Plymouth and use that car park for any other purpose than to visit Wickes or the furniture show room next door - unless you can afford £75 - don't.
So, full marks to Wickes for trying to help this person out but - have we had a BR clamping debate here recently?
In the left corner, stand the "The only good clamper is a dead clamper etc arguements" and in the right is the "well we need parking controls, how would you like it if people just parked in your drive and walked into town etc arguements.
I feel that privately hired enforcement has its place but the complete lack of regulation is worrying. What is to stop these individuals acting outside of their scope and clamping people who actually use the store only?
I also feel that clamping is the just desserts of a motoring public who are often seen not to respect property and tend to take advantage of what is often seen as free parking at the inconvenience of land owners and tenants who need to keep parking spaces open for staff and customers wisiting their store.

Anyone here got the latest Mitsubishi Space star ?
What's it like ? Read more
I bought a brand new Space Star 1.6 Equippe Petrol in September 2003 and I\'m very pleased with both the vehicle and the level of service/courtesy I get from my local dealer. I didn\'t have a part exchange and it was an outright cash purchase.
At the time I was also considering the Honda Jazz and the Nissan Amera Tino, but settled on the Space Star because \'it felt right\' and the dealer offered me a good package.
I\'ve just transported most of my eldest daughter\'s goods and chattels from home to university (60 miles or so) and got self wife daughter said possessions into the car in comfort.
I play in a band and I can get all of my equipment (2 speaker cabinets, amp, guitars, mic stand, accessories box and suitcase) in the Space Star and still have room for a passenger or two.
Since taking delivery I\'ve done about 14000 miles at 40-ish MPG.
Any negative points? I had to have the sunroof rubber and blind replaced to cure a water leak and also the radio/CD player replaced because the removeable fascia wouldn\'t re-attach securely. Both replacements done quickly and with no fuss.
Overall I\'m very pleased with my Space Star - it meets all of my requirements at a reasonable price and so far the after-sales has been exemplary.
Following an RAF Landrover today it struck me how similar its registration was to the recently introduced xxnnxxx.
Not the same though, obviously, so I wondered what logic their regns. actually do follow - there must be some logic.

xxx D xxxis a diplomat in the UK; one of the series of numbers is for the country, the other is sequential (presumably starting at 100) for the number of cars that each country has registered in the UK. The other letter (was it X?) is, as has been said, other embassy staff etc in the UK, but NOT of diplomatic status.
I have a problem that audi can not help me with. Whilst driving, without my lights on, the lights around the speedo and rev counter fade up and down every now and then. does anyone remember this? Read more
Do you have adjustable dash lighting? I think you do, via the little rotary knob on the clocks.
I would suspect something is going on with this.

Just driven a mates 93 Audi 80Tdi. The acceleration seems to be all or nothing. Am I right in thinking that these symptoms are typical MAF sensor failure. If so are there any checks that can be done to confirm this without having to pay for diagnostics?
Thanks,
Mark Read more
The 93 Audi 80 TDi(engine code 1Z) did not use a MAF sensor,it was fitted with the older(and more reliable) vane airflow meter or VAF sensor, which is probably not the cause of your poor acceleration.I'd suggest checking all pipework from air filter to turbo and from turbo to inlet manifold.Another problem which could affect these was severe sludging up of the inlet tracts caused by the EGR system. If all your pipework and air ducting is in good order a diagnostic session would be the most economic way of solving the trouble.

dont know what your worried about just knock one out in word
