Hi all,
Dad came home in a E320 CDI yesterday and I can honestly say, I've never been in anything like it. I'm easily impressed and the automatic folding down headrests did nothing to contradict that but gadgets aside (and there were a lot), the engine impressed me most. Apart from not sounding like a diesel, the power was amazing. We took it back today down quite a quick road and were behind someone slow. Once then turned off, kickdown, power and it was absolutely amazing. Diesel and it was infinitely more powerful than the ST24 we had. I would have the car like a shot but not the estate version. As soon as I re-arranged my facial features after being propelled at Mach 10, I had another fiddle with the gadgets.
Now sat nav is good but I found the map feature the best. I presume all sat nav systems have this but seeing where you are, especially near side streets was actually quite impressive without having Gertrude say "Turn Left NOW"
Only downside, it was an auto but I wouldn't say no!

Is there anyone in the political spectrum that doesn't have it in for the motorist? The conservatives have just jumped on the 'we hate 4x4s' bandwagon even though their website is full of stuff about not being anti transport & anti travel. They're also making a big deal about kyoto even though the biggest polluter isn't even signed up so our efforts are just a trump in a tornado. Perhaps liberal minded people who feel others should be allowed to choose what they drive are in the minority and the UK is now filled with interfering busy bodies who want to tell us what to drive, where to drive, how to drive and not let us have anything other than an asthmatic 1.1 litre roller skate.
Lots of people seem to be envious that the well off can buy themselves out of responsibility as they see it but if they were well off enough to do the same how many of them would? I bet you it would be the majority. I can't afford it so you can't have it, ner ner ner. Since when did the population of the UK become spoilt toddlers?
Cars are getting heavier and heavier all the time because of the added safety features. If these engines were older style body shells think how much more environmentally friendly they would be? My old hatchback car weighed in at 1180 kg. Superminis are now that heavy. My old hatchback, even with a 2 litre engine would have mid to high thirties all the time. Superminis do this around town! Cars of a comparable size and with similar engine capacity are getting fewer mpg than my old shed! So much for progress...

NW,
You are a stirrer!!! I have decided to neither amble nor drive on the grounds that either will produce more carbon dioxide.I will, however drink more wine in the hope that it will encourage the French to plant more vines which will use CO2 for growth!!
Now, back to motoring......
Hi,
I've just bought a six year old Mondeo with a 5000 EON Radio/Cassette and I want to replace it with either a 6000 EON single slot CD/Radio or the 6006 EON 6-CD/Radio. I can't figure how to remove it. Do you need special tools?
Thanks.

As JC though bend two pieces in right places ie one for each side. leaves a point to pull on.Four pieces is more difficult.should leave you with 2x U shape tools. To keep in toolbox

Evening. Washing the car today and I have a rash of dead bugs from the summer all over my front bumper and the front of the bonnet. Using my normal shampoo (Carplan Triplewax) doesn't shift them and I've also tried a little Autoglym tar remover but no joy there either. Anybody know of a readily available product that works
Thanks

Interesting, but they missed the importance of cleaning the wiper blade contact surface. Makes a huge difference over time to effective wiping without juddering or smearing.
when selecting first gear in my audi it doesnt always engage, i have to take foot off clutch then 2nd time it normally goes into first gear.
is this a clutch or gearbox problem? apart fro this i have no other problems with selecting gears
the car has done 130k miles by the way.
cheers

Could just be the clutch dragging slightly although this should also effect other gears but you do not usually select any others when the car is not moving except reverse of course. If it clunks into reverse then it could just be air in the clutch hydraulic system or slack if the actuator arm. Regards Peter
just wondered if i could gain some insite to mats.
i have a rover 75, and wondered what are the best mats to put in it?
doing around 40K miles a year, so tuff wearing.
also where can i get dark beige to go with the interior ?
cheapest place to purchase ?
web or halfords/motorworld ?
cheers ;-)
p.s. the 3 halfords have no black or beige cannons, or profile mats with rubber & carpet bit.

Quite, Marc. You no doubt recall that one of the shortest questions resulted in one of the longest threads no so long ago.

Any one help air bag warning light keeps coming on and only goes off when you slam closed the passager side glove box.
started as an intermitant fault but now on most time, car not under warranty Read more
is the fusebox in, behind, or around the glovebox? As DD says, something is loose behind there.
What is a Phat filter, what does it do and why did it limit my friends Pug 307 to 2000 revs ?

The thing is, If theres a problem with the FAP system, the car will then default into Limp home mode & you end up getting overtaken by snails!
My 1991 Orion 1600i Ghia has a faulty speedo. Now its not the cable as can spin this by hand so must be gearbox as cable coes not turn when driving. Any ideas!!! Read more
Check the speedo drive pinion in the gearbox, it's held in with a roll pin and it can be a bit of a fiddle getting the pin out. The gear driving the pinion sits next to the diff bearings, if the plastic gear is chewed up, chances are that the diff bearings are worn allowing misalignment. Gearbox needs rebuilding.

Not every day, probably an E class once a week although did drive one briefly today, I rate the car so highly it would probably be at top of shopping list if I could afford it.. Never driven a 911 or indeed any Porsche though :-(
