Has anyone on here had problems with a Daewoo Matiz airbag light that won't go out. or have any suggestions for things to check?
Thanks in advance... Read more
Hello all. Just wondering if anyone else out there has any information or is having the same problem as myself. Basically on Monday while driving along my car began to accelerate on its own. After regaining control the engine continued to rev at 3 thousand revs. It?s now in the hands of the dealer and Citroen UK don?t seem all that bothered telling me it?s perfectly ok and to let them fix it under warranty. Basically im left thinking this is a pretty dangerous fault on this car I mean surely if something fails the car should stop not accelerate to whatever speed it likes. it looks like the middle of October before it returns to the road. Any comments or thoughts welcome. Read more
Hi,
I am not sure if this how to get another note listed, but here goes.
I have experienced several times both the sticking of my accelerator. This was not a pleasant experience last evening when I came very close to meeting my maker. Traveling along at 65 mph on the normal commute home I accelerated past a lorry just about to enter my lane (without the normal courtesy of any indication) hence having accelerated the pedal remained depressed and I was not able to relive the pedal from this position...........having tried to flick the pedal back up with my foot (to no avail) I then tried in vain to change the gears in an attempt to change the speed and acceleration, taking the car from automatic to manual gear selections on the consol...........hmmm but to no avail, I then switched back and forth from manual to automatic via the gear change selector now starting to reaching panic mode and fast approaching the traffic in front of me I starting to brake heavily bit again with little to no impact on way beginning to fell like a completely out of control car.........
Having then gone into panic mode - Hazard lights to the action and pulling onto the hard shoulder still unable to stop the racing car engine, breaking hard to no avail -only option (with fingers crossed) was to turn off the engine........phew 5,4,3,2,1, Stopped ! Ok stomach you can return from my mouth !
Having composed myself, I decide to restart the engine and see what was in store............seemed ok, so I proceeded with the drive home in a very gingerly fashion.
If Citroen know of this fault then best the get their act together else they may have blood on their hands !
Asking on behalf of a friend who is looking at >100k miles Seat Toledo / Golf estates (i.e. cheap), 3 year-old models.
Does anyone know whether the VAG 2.3 V5 and the V6-Synco/4-Motion are both chain-cam engines? Do they have a history of early belt/chain failure?
Many thanks. Read more
I looked at the Passat V5 when changing company car 4 1/2 years ago - went for the 1.8T as it was as quick but more economical.
Still do not understand the point of the V5 when the turbo is available!

I know it's naughty.. but in our narrow street, most people park up 2 wheels on the pavement, 2 on the road.. to lessen the chance of losing a wing mirror and/or prevent scuffing your alloys on the kerb I presume.
However.. I've heard people say this doesn't do your car any good (wheel tracking?).
Opinions?
Is it bad for your car? How does this weigh against the chances of getting scraped?

I've taken up running recently partly as a challenge to my failing body and partly to raise sponsorship for a charity 10K event.
At the end of a recent training run I was staggering home and was really glad that the Jag S- type mirror folded back without causing any pain, as I lurched into it.

I wasna fu but just had plenty.
I'm having problems sending emails via Outlook. Some get sent OK, most are getting stuck in the outbox. None are large. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling my antivirus (AVG). The Outlook account test message seems to work OK. If I close Outlook then open it up again I seem to have more success with the first message I send then problems start again. I'm having particular problems with replying to emails sent to me - this hardly seems to work at all.
It's happening on my broadband (Metronet) and dial up (Freeserve) accounts
I'm able to receive emails without problem.
I had a new hard drive fitted two days ago and XP Pro reinstalled. I'm therefore working from a restored version of my Outlook.pst file so maybe that has caused some kind of problem (the inbox repair utility found some errors initially but when I've run it the last few times it says the file is fine). I've also done a google looking for answers but nothing seems to fit.
Anyone come across this before? Read more
The principle is the same across most Windows operating systems. Alow file and print sharing on each computer. Don't enable any protocols other than TCP/IP (unless you have another reason for doing so).
You might need to ensure that you log on to the Windows 98 computer using an account name and password that is set up in Windows 2000, or ensure the Guest account is enabled on the Win2k machine and when prompted on Windows 98 fr a username, type guest. You can usually check a box so that it doesn't keep asking you for the password.
You will also need to change the properties of folders you wish to share - right click the folder in Explorer and sort it out there (Sharing). Make sure you enable file updating, not just reading, assuming that's what you want to do. Once they are shared, the icon for the folder will have a hand with a blue sleeve on it underneath it.
Even better, if the computers are often on, is to map drives. In Windows Explorer go Tools/Map Network Drive and add the drive. Then, for instance, if the desktop is on when you boot the laptop and log onto it, it will automatically re-map the (persistent) connections (I think somewhere in the mapping screen you say whether it should ALWAYS map). (NB you can map any level as a drive - you don't have to map the whole drive. So you could map computer2\my documents to computer 1 as n: drive, and computer2\my documents\my pictures as O: drive, if you see what I mean)
Lastly, when you have a network, use it to back up across - saving your important files on each computer to the other computer once in a while. It's no substitue for a "proper" backup but at least your critical data would be safer.
Been an AA member for years but just bought a new Seat which comes with 5 years roadside assistance.
Anyone know if the existing portion of my AA membership can be refunded or perhaps transferred to someone else? Read more
I too am on a suspended AA membership. You don't lose your benefits (are there any) of long term membership when you resume with them.
Hope you can help.
Whilst trying to parallel park today, I got a bit too close to a high kerb and ended up giving my poor old trims a bit of scuff. :-(
Thing is, they were nearly perfect, and the originals from when the car was new, so I wont throw them away and with the car being 13 years old, they're not easy to come by.
So, the question is, can you repare moderate scuffs on plastic wheel trims? And if so, what do you recommend? Read more
You might want to decide if your trims have silver paint with a clear lacquer coating on top. In which case you may need to spray a clear lacquer coat to match other trims. If you spray many thin coats (rather than a couple of thick ones) you will find the paint tends to fill any shallow scrapes you can't sand out.
I have a 2000 seat alhambra 20 valve turbo that keeps flashing all the dash warning lights that then reset them selves. The cruse control was the first thing to stop working, the warning light to the fuel & temp gauge sometimes glow. There are no faults held in the systems memory, the car is dry and has good earths under the bonet, under the seats & on the pillers. moving the wiring under the dash area also has no affect to provoke or clear the fault. all my local dealers are not aware of a common fault.

The fault has been cured. A Seat Electrition advised that 50% of all electrical faults are earth faults. Having checked 13 earth points on the vehicle all were good.
In bypassing the earth from the dash unit (conections were good) it has cured the fault.

* Where is the engine temp sensor located? The temperature gauge on the dashboard takes about 8 miles on the motorway to get into the "Warmed Up" region. Even then, it jumps suddenly from cold to "warmed up". I reckon the temp sender needs replacing. On my old Fiesta, this was a simple "screw out-screw in" job that even I could handle. Same on the Micra?
* At the front of the engine, immediately to the right of the oil dipstick is a hand-sized triangular, curved plate of iron that is positioned between the engine and the radiator. As far as I can tell from consulting my Haynes manual this bit of iron seems to cover the thermostat but I may be wrong and be looking at the opposite end of the engine! I guess this lump of metal is some sort of shield, to protect the radiator from engine high temperatures maybe? Anyway, all 3 screws holding this on to the engine block have rusted, the iron plate itself is very rusty and the whole thing looks ready to drop off.
Question: What is this plate called? Do I need to get a new plate fitted or will securing the existing rusty old plate be OK?
Thanks

Heat shield. Wont have anything to do with either temp/sender or rad.
Bad connection to temp/sender. would cause your prob. senders age would cause it as well ie failing.

I'm trying to buy a pair of plain, non-prescription driving glasses with polychromatic ('Reactolite') lenses. I can find any number of expensive designer glasses, but I'm not interested in a silly name, cool or fashion. I just want glasses that can live in the car and do the job. My last such pair came from a now-closed AA shop and served me well for many years yet now they seem to be unobtainable.
Can anyone help? Google searches have got me nowhere. Read more
and why I have been sent an e-mail by the webmaster
There used to be a tickbox where you could subscribe to a thread/post and get email notifications when anyone replied to it. It was later dropped because despite the warning telling people not to respond to the email, some people still did or they had an 'out of office' message set up in their email rules. In short, the webmaster at the time got fed up with the emails that swamped his inbox from the people who couldn't read further than the first line or had forgetten to cancel their out of office rule.
I suspect back in 2004 you had ticked the box, and although the tickbox is no longer visible, I suspect the setting for it still remembers you ticked the box.
Models up to 2000 had mechanical pretensioners. From 2000-on they have pyrotechnic pretentioners.
System can only be read and reset via the data link connector (DLC) using dealer kit.
