Been an AA member for years but just bought a new Seat which comes with 5 years roadside assistance.
Anyone know if the existing portion of my AA membership can be refunded or perhaps transferred to someone else?

I have just taken AA membership for the year - no refunds if I remember correctly.
My membership is personal rather than the car so I would suppose that if someone could "prove" that they are me and have my AA card, there is nothing to stop them using the cover. Could get tricky if they didn't respond to my name though!

Yep - they're getting tougher on that I believe Deryck. I seem to recall that they now require additional ID when you call them out so the membership card isn't any longer enough.

Just consider a couple of things first. Does the Seat cover exactly match your AA cover (read the small print) and, if not, are the differences significant? The terms and scope of cover offered by different companies can vary a lot. Also remember the AA covers YOU not the car which means you have the benefit of your cover when you're a passenger in someone else's vehicle. If you travel regularly in other vehicles with people who have no breakdown cover for example you might wish to keep or modify your AA cover (depending of course on the level you have). Don't know if you can get a pro-rata refund however but if nobody here does a quick call to the AA will yield the answer.

Well on quick inspection, the SEAT cover seems better than my AA cover which is the basic roadside 100 jobbie.
Only a few months left before renewal so I'm only losing out about £15 so not too bad.

The AA will suspend membership for more than 2 years, I bought a new Laguna in 1998 which had 3 year recovery included, the AA suspended the membership. Then in 2001 I bought a new Picasso which had 1 year recovery, so it was suspended for a 4th year.
Even with the AA membership suspended I was (apparently) eligible for the payment when they were taken over by Centrica.

Same here, the Skoda came with 18 months roadside assistance left so i suspended AA. IIRC, they even sent me a reminder when the Skoda cover ceased.

Well how's this for a conundrum?
12 months RAC cover free with the new van - registered on the Van - fine
My Commercial Vehicle Direct policy comes with free recovery etc via another provider.
So The van is covered twice but the other two vehicles are not covered at all!
...my head hurts!

I too am on a suspended AA membership. You don't lose your benefits (are there any) of long term membership when you resume with them.
