On reading this site regularly I have only ever noticed issues with coilpacks on VAG products however I'd like all to know that it also extends to Renaults. My wife's Scenic (2001 - 1.6) packed up last week at 18k miles. Apparently 1 coil of the four had gone (driving to the garage was very lumpy) but they replaced all four.
The receptionist knew exactly what the problem was and explained they saw cases of it daily and had plenty of stock of spare coils. Service was immediate and resolved within an hour. So overall feedback of resolution is great - having said that why is it happening so frequently ?

Can anyone settle a debate? Some say the early VW Sharans were built in Germany and Galaxys somewhere else (no one knew about early Alhambras); others say all three have always been built on the same line in Portugal. Can anyone be absolutley certain please?

Ivor,
Thanks, and yes I did post it on the Fordgalaxy site - I will look at your links.
Thanks again
I bought a Renault Laguna Privilege 2.0 in January and have been having a battle with them since. The car does not perform as their brochure. Typically the car should be doing 34 mph in 5th gear at 1000 rpm according to their brochure. (A bit high I admit but nevertheless that's what their brochure says). My car does 23 mph.
The road speed through the other gears are likewise 33% down on the brochure.
Consequently the car cannot achieve anywhere near the fuel economy stated nor its maximum speed nor its acceleration (You have to go into 3rd gear to get to 60 mph)
Renault will have nothing of it and after 6 months of battling I have been advised to take the matter up with the Finance Company, which i am doing.
I have test driven another Laguna and it performs exactly as mine.
I had a Clio 1.4 as a courtesy car and it does the same road speeds through the gears as my 2.0 Laguna!
People like Watchdog and Top Gear aren't interested nor are the auto magazines.
Anybody else found the above situation and any advice?

Calling it a "con" is suggesting that it was a deliberate and dishonest act.
Also, from the original author's recent comments it appears that legal action may be in the offing.
With those two points in mind it is not appropriate for the discussion to continue here, and I have locked the thread.
Mark.
Is it fair to say given all the problems listed on this side of the site that the 306 is probably a car to be avoided...

Worked on a 237,000 mile 306 non-turbo last week - MOT & Service.
Needed four rear axle mounting bushes and a couple of flexible front brake hoses to get a certificate. Drove well, too!

anyone any experience of draining and refilling a saxo radiator?
how easy are we looking at it being? Read more
You haven`t said why you think it may be difficult.Apart from an air lock it should be as easy as ABC.Why do you need to drain it?
Morning all,
I have a '95 Cavalier which this morning developed a harsh grinding fron the front driver side wheel when taking right hand corners at a reasnoble speed. Doesn't happen when gently going around right handers or at all when going around left hander at any speed. Did a couple of full right hand circle in the car park and needs a little welly to make it happen, as if you were checking CV joints, no clicking and no previous indication of a problem, drives ok, steering feels fine, nothing obvious trapped underneath, just a nasty harsh grinding noise, any ideas
Thanks, Ellis Read more
Nice one Ellis - a result I think.

Recently had my new vehicle front windscreen replaced and the weatherstrip was place back by using the black colour sealant to seal the windscreen. Need to glue back since the original clips-on on the strips need to be remove when replacing the windscreen.
Found that the edge of the weather strips not adhere properly and I use some UHU multipurpose glue to the underside of the strips to get the strips adhere to the glass/body better.
Question is, does this glue contain any harmful element that may cause rust or contaminate the paintwork after some time. As some glue inhibits rust to metal parts.

THank you.
It was on a new paintwork, metallic silver. Would not be able to see it now as the glue sits under the trim.
My Dad has been quoted £566 for replacing the lower ball joints on his 1995 Carina E. The handling has felt a bit vague of late, but this seems a bit excessive, even for main dealer prices, is it a big job? Read more
The car sailed through the mot yesterday, the only points noted were tyre depths down to 3mm on the front. So we are left wondering if there is a problem or not, or whether a main agent feels pensioners are a source of easy money around Xmas.
The puncture sealants which I have come across before have all been added after the event, get you to the garage type of thing. I have just been reading an advertisment for a puncture sealant which remains in the tyre all of the time, and stays fluid. The advertisment promises that the fluid will not unbalance the wheel, and forms an almost permanent repair. The name is Ultraseal.
My car has a space saver wheel, and I had to wait several days for a repair when I damaged a tyre last New Years Eve.
Anybody used it or something similar? Comments please, but remember the Administrator's injunction, nothing libellous. Read more
Lots of horror stories from smart owners about this stuff. It can cause severe vibration at motorway speeds and getting the stuff out of the tyre is a very messy job which no tyre fitter will thank you for.
Some of you who read my thread "306 HDi Smoke Normal" will know what happened to my 306 :
basically - bought the car, burnt oil, took it back, Peugeot said it was the head and would replace it..
Sadly the tale of woe doesnt really stop there. The Monkeys at the dealership had the car for nearly 2 weeks while they "waited for peugeot to come down to assess the vehicle". Finally they decided to replace the engine.
Well, they didnt replace the *whole* engine they just replaced the bottom end - and not the head which was supposed to be the problem in the first place. How do I know its the original head ? I wrote my name in small letters on the side with a UV marker pen.
Ok so I got the car back and I *thought* all would be well. How wrong I was. Car creates bucket loads of white smoke on starting when cold, and it seems to missfire!!!!!! After it gets warm you can feel the car bunnyhopping slightly when slow moving. You can actually hear a small surge in engine revs.
When the car idles, it hunts from about 500rpm to 1000rpm and back again all the time.
Also, its used 2 whole expansion tanks of water in 2 days. Dont get me wrong, but do they actually know what they are doing ?? Called them up yesterday and they have taken the car away.
Car is a 306 HDi D-Turbo. Can I reject the car now? Any thoughts guys coz they have basically fobbed me off with excuses.

Well Rob hasn't "visited" (logged-in to?) the forum since the day of that last post, so we can't really tell other thane-mailing him. Sounds like the baffoons put the gasket on awkwardly. An expansion tank full of water per day sounds like a hell of a lot.
I've suffered the same problem on my 1.6 8v Megane, albeit with 70k miles on the clock. One coil pack (of the two) failed a couple of months ago, which resulted in the cat being destroyed due to all the unburnt fuel getting to it. Unfortuantely I let it misfire and tried to struggle on with the problem, without really knowing a failing coil pack was the cause. If had I known before I wouldn't have carried on and may have saved my cat. A couple of weeks ago, the car 'coughed' for a couple of seconds, and I knew straightaway this time that the other coil pack must be on the way out, so I replaced that right away!
I think its almost worth spending £100 on a pair of coil packs if they haven't packed up yet on your Megane, just to keep them ready for when does fail. It's cheaper than replacing your cat, and only takes 5 minutes to fit.
