Some of you who read my thread "306 HDi Smoke Normal" will know what happened to my 306 :

basically - bought the car, burnt oil, took it back, Peugeot said it was the head and would replace it..

Sadly the tale of woe doesnt really stop there. The Monkeys at the dealership had the car for nearly 2 weeks while they "waited for peugeot to come down to assess the vehicle". Finally they decided to replace the engine.

Well, they didnt replace the *whole* engine they just replaced the bottom end - and not the head which was supposed to be the problem in the first place. How do I know its the original head ? I wrote my name in small letters on the side with a UV marker pen.

Ok so I got the car back and I *thought* all would be well. How wrong I was. Car creates bucket loads of white smoke on starting when cold, and it seems to missfire!!!!!! After it gets warm you can feel the car bunnyhopping slightly when slow moving. You can actually hear a small surge in engine revs.

When the car idles, it hunts from about 500rpm to 1000rpm and back again all the time.

Also, its used 2 whole expansion tanks of water in 2 days. Dont get me wrong, but do they actually know what they are doing ?? Called them up yesterday and they have taken the car away.

Car is a 306 HDi D-Turbo. Can I reject the car now? Any thoughts guys coz they have basically fobbed me off with excuses.

Cheers

I'd take some legal advice, either CAB or £25 for a meeting with a solicitor. However strong your position you can bet the dealership will resist any attempt to get a refund. My father was in a similar position with Citroen and although legally in a strong position ended up getting rid of the car as a P\X for another car ( not a Citroen!)because the legal process was so long-winded and stressfull. Sometimes it's best to cut your losses. I'm sorry if this sounds pessimistic and depressing but I have little faith in many dealers to act in a reasonable and honourable way. Good luck with your quest!

Apologies to re-open an old thread, but....
Does anybody know the outcome of this?
Sounds like a bodged head gasket/head if it's using water?
head should've been skimmed for the sake of it if it was re-used, and what did they say about re-using the head as you knew it wasn't a new one?

Well Rob hasn't "visited" (logged-in to?) the forum since the day of that last post, so we can't really tell other thane-mailing him. Sounds like the baffoons put the gasket on awkwardly. An expansion tank full of water per day sounds like a hell of a lot.
