Sometime ago someone had found access to workshop manuals on CD, I tried this thread but it is no longer valid.
Any one aware of genuine legal manuals??
Believe they were around £50.00

In London there is a total lack of parking spaces for motorbikes.
I have seen bikes recently parked illegally on the pavement - normally they would get slapped with a ticket within minutes.
The bikers however are leaving their bikes with rough covers/plastic bags over the number plates. Presumably the wardens won't touch the bikes and therefore as he/she can't read the plate no ticket can be given. Read more
Parked on the paved pedestrianised square outside next door to our office here, there has been what I can only describe as a self-propelled toolbox.
During the day it is completely covered by dust sheets but when the "meter maids" (if only) go off duty, these come off and it is driven away.
Mk3 16v ,57000 on the clock .Misfiring intermittently for the last 5 months ,now everytime car is used.
Misfire from cold after a mile or so ,especially around 3000rpm,seems to clear when taken through revs ,but never really sorts.Idle is rough and happens on the over run .
Misfire feels like the car wants to clear it`s throat, like rev limiter kicking in when throttle is held at 3000rpm.
Any ideas as it`s had every test done,Main dealer to dyno boys.
Any other V.W owners had similar.
Before it`s destined to the auction, and i`ve pulled out every last hair.

Yet another misfire, someone said could be secondary ignition.
In simple speak what is it and how would it be fixed on a mk3 16v Golf?.

If your question, as now seems likely, was about misfiring that happens while the engine is supposed to be running normally, like intermittant engine noise or bangs from the exhaust, as oposed to what I described which is what can happen after the ignition has been switched off, then it is likely you have an ignition problem as has been suggested -- I am growing new whiskers.
As to my description fitting that of an engine pinking or detonation, no I was not describing that. Pinking is due to the rate of burn of air-petrol mixture in the cyclinder head exceeding the speed of sound -- the mixture goes bang. To stop pinking, lead was added in petrol (not used now) as it slowed down the burn.
my 3 year old micra tends to steer slightly to the left particularly noticeable on motorways. Just had the tracking done on all four wheels which has improved it slightly but it still tends to do it, any suggestions, remedies, costs, grateful for any advice.

If you've still got the same tyres fitted as per before the tracking was adjusted, don't forget that these tyres will have worn non uniformly and *could* still give you the same problems. You could try swapping fronts to rears, and vice versa, but the only real way to know if the problem is solved is to replace all the tyres.
I did a forum search before on 'anti theft devices' and most returns were from the archive, so I'm looking for some more up-to-date information.
Whats the best visible anti theft deterent around at the moment ?
Our works car park is now full on a regular basis. We used to park occasionally on the 14 space car park across the road, which is for some flats belonging to a charitable trust. No resident of the flats owns a car, and in the 7 years i've worked across the road there has never been more than one resident with a car at once. Now badly written notes threatening clamping are appearing on windscreens, and the nearest legal on-street parking has only recently been the subject of a highly publicised wave of car break-ins, so I want something that will say 'go away - the next cars easier to break into'
any suggestions ?

in the past, we used to do that, but they are not interested any more. Indeed, the most 'anti' is not one of the residents, but the charities housing officer, who needs somewhere to park when she drives there from the town centre office half a mile away.

Does anyone know if there are any after market kits around to increase the power of the Ford 1.3 Ka engine ? Read more
The obvious one is the Ford Sportka-50% increase in power.
This of no importance what-so-ever, it is just something that has puzzled me for a while. My Escort (L reg) will only unlcok all doors from the passenger side, but once the car is unlocked - the central locking works from the drivers side! Some people have suggested this is built in as standard as if you have passengers you let them in first on their side, and if you havent got passengers there is no need for other doors to be open! I dont really buy this excuse! - but would be interested in ur opinions as to whether this is actually built in as standard? Read more
This is not a standard feature but a common fault.Either your locks and/or keys are both worn .With this type of Ford key Any key will lock the door but you need the correct one to unlock.
The other day I was driving along when a vehicle appeared in the distance coming towards me with it's headlamps flashing alternately, it was quite a way off so I couldn't tell what it was. I immediately thought Police, as it didn't seem big enough to be a Fire appliance or Ambulance, as it got nearer I could see that it also had Orange flashing lights lit on the roof, and as it got closer still, I realised that it was a civilian Land Rover Discovery with WIDE LOAD emblazoned on the front, it was followed at some distance by a low loader carrying a piece of earth moving equipment that was slighty protruding from either side.
I understand why it had flashing headlamps, as they certainly got my attention, my question is simple, was this legal?
I'm not being pedantic, there is a reason for me asking;
A couple of years ago I used to work on the Motorway Incident Support Units, assisting the Police to clear accidents quickly. As we were authorised to use the hard shoulder quite frequently to reach incidents we enquired about having flashing headlamps fitted to our vans to give us more of a prescence when driving along the hard shoulder on the inside of queuing traffic, the answer from the Police was a resounding NO!
Over to the legal experts.

Having been the patient in the back of an emergency ambulance in France which was bright red with four flashing rotating lights,I can confirm they are of little use if the driver in front ignores his rear view mirror and is also deaf!-two tone horns as well.
I have a Seat Ibiza 1.4, which takes 95 RON unleaded petrol. The manual says that the engine will not take advantage of a higher octane rating. I know that Shell Optimax is good for engines - is this true of their 95 RON petrol too? What brand of 95 RON unleaded would be best for my engine?
Thanks

where you can find out more about petrol e.g.
"...4.12 Are brands different?
Yes. The above specifications are intended to ensure minimal quality standards are maintained, however as well as the fuel hydrocarbons, the manufacturers add their own special ingredients to provide additional benefits. A quality gasoline additive package would include:-
octane-enhancing additives ( improve octane ratings )
anti-oxidants ( inhibit gum formation, improve stability )
metal deactivators ( inhibit gum formation, improve stability )
deposit modifiers ( reduce deposits, spark-plug fouling and preignition )
surfactants ( prevent icing, improve vaporisation, inhibit deposits, reduce NOx emissions )
freezing point depressants ( prevent icing )
corrosion inhibitors ( prevent gasoline corroding storage tanks )
dyes ( product colour for safety or regulatory purposes ).
During the 1980s significant problems with deposits accumulating on intake valve surfaces occurred as new fuel injections systems were introduced.

Just keep looking then, something will crop up. It usually does on ebay!
