November 2003
I have a mk4b fiesta and have just upgraded my stereo to the CD6000 which is four speaker compatable, i wish to put rear speakers in, but i am not sure about the wiring.
Do ford lay the speaker wire for the rear speakers on the production line, if so, what side does it run and where would i find it.
Any help please, Pastyman.... Read more
I was told by a Ford dealer that i have one of the last fiesta mk4's(face lifted version-focus style lights/smiley grill), the car was built in november 99 and i understand the new shape fiesta mk5 was sold from november 99 onwards. Does anyone know when the mk4b actually finished production as i keep seing mk4b's on a 51 and 02 plates, this is a bit confusing and quite the opposite to what i have been told by my ford dealer, did ford make the mk4b and the mk5 side by side for a while of would these mk4b's be somewhat old stock ?
Answers on a postcard please.

I would guess that these older version cars have sat around in a field for a year or two before being registered, and thus are on newer plates than the manufactured date of the car.
I have a fiesta Mk4b (facelifted version), and i want to know how i change the fuses in the fusebox thats in the engine bay, not the normal blade fuses, the special ford type of fuse, especially the 60amp fuse for the heated windscreen, it looks like it is pushed in place, but i was told they are screwed in place underneath the fuse holder, i don't know wether this is actually the case or not. I have seen one of these fuses and they appear to have a brass nut fitted on each terminal for doing a screw onto. The owners manual says refer to dealer for replacement, i don't think so, not for changing a fuse.
Can anyone tell me how these fuses are taken out.
Thanks for any help.

Beg pardon, teach me to read will it not, didnt see the FRONT windscreen. Yes they draw a hell of current. If examination of the fuse reveals it to be bolted on from the bottom, then the fuse box will need to come out. It wont be made too hard to do, so the fuse box may come to bits in situ, or will be easily bolted in place. I suspect the fuse is bolted to a bus bar at the bottom to carry that current, so remove all the cables and take it out. I suspect they may need to be torqued to a specific value
I've been watching the Subaru UK website for news of the new Legacy, but they don't seem the have noticed it. WHEREAS, the HJ site Car-by-Car Breakdown has had it for a while. Good show! Read more
Hillman - I was on the Subaru website on Friday. The New Legacy appears as a pop-up, and as I'm on Apple-Mac the Google toolbar does not work. If you are blocking you may not see it.

Its not just a UK thing. I have driven to Amsterdam twice. The first time the scenic was parked in a busy street. The window was smashed to get a packet of fags!
The second time just recently I learned my lesson and parked in a secure underground car park. On the second night someone attacked the Laguna rear door window with an automatic engineers punch. I now have 6 (yes count them) small chips in the window. It didnt break tho. There was NOTHING in the car.
Lets be honest. There is NOTHING you can do to stop anyone breaking into your car apart from lock it in your garage.
The dog thing wont work, dogs are high on the list of theft items.

Does anyone know how much warranty you have with a 2002 model Renault Laguna? It was not from an official Renault franchise but bought from Ian Shipton Cars in Burton-on-Trent. There is no warranty claim issue as such, it just came up in a conversation as to whether the car has just 12 months cover or 24 months cover. Does anyone have any idea? Read more
It doesn't matter when it was registered, it is the date of the PDI that determines when the warranty commenced (an issue to watch out for when buying from some supermarkets who hold old stock of "new" cars).

I nominate the Place de l'Etoile in Paris (the road around the Arc de Triomphe). A truly mad place.
Indeed it is. Now known as Place Charles de Gaulle (since the General died in 1970) the excitement of the race around the circuit is heightened by the cobbled surface, a pure delight in rain. On my first trip to Paris I made it from Foch to Wagram (who needs Sat Nav? Eighth exit, easy-peasy!) in a matter of seconds.
On my next visit to Paris a few years later, I witnessed as a pedestrian from under the arch itself what is probably Europe’s ultimate act of driving stupidity as a hapless tourist in a red Toyota missed his turning and promptly turned round and drove back - against the flow of traffic! Unmistakeable black on yellow British registration, I’m afraid to say.
recenty i acquired a 1.7 td m reg vauxhall astra merit for a nominal fee. after spending approx £500 on front end damage i had 3 days trouble free motoring. The constant red oil warning light didnt put me off as i thought it was a result of my kerb side mechanics absent mindedness, and it was no more than the sender wire having been knocked off, after checking the dip stick, and finding the level correct, i continued driving until the van ground to a halt, a short tow back to the garage, and removal of the oil filter indicated that the oil pump wasnt working. one new oil pump and £250 further down the road and still no oil pumping. can anyone help!!!!! further to my last has anyone got a spare engine hanging around for my sad little van, much cheapness essential.
A good pal who is an excellent and experienced mechanic has a so far intractable problem. The car has failed its MOT with emissions of 10%. The only symptom other than this is very high fuel consumption which suggests massive overfuelling.
The Rover dealer suggested a new lamba sensor which made no difference. The car has since been to the dealer's, who could find no fault with the diagnostics and tried a new ECU - no change. The (Rover) dealer has now given up saying they cannot fix it! The diagnosis is no-fault-found.
The emissions are absolutely constant at 10% - as if they are being (mis)regulated to that level. The cat has been pronounced OK but if a dead cat were the only problem the emissions should in any case presumably be MUCH lower than 10%?
Has any one had a similar problem and solved it?

Thanks to all who replied - the vacuum, sensors and hoses etc. have all been checked as suggested and all OK.
DysonC - this car has multipoint injection - did you say you had alternative suggestions? If so we'd be very glad to hear them!
I am under the assumption that they are but having fitted a few new cd/radio`s.to older models have found it faster to fit your own speaker cables they are not expensive and may be easier to install.but that also depend`s on the system you are installing.to answer your question I think they are but are not easy to gain access to stand me corrected if I`m wrong
