Just wondered if anyone could praise the Mitsubishi Space Star 1.3 at all? Any comments would be appreciated Read more
i have a peugeot 406 1.9dt, just wondering do all 406's have intercoolers like the 306's because they use the same engines dont they? if not y dont they have them? if so where are they located?
also if it dont have one would there be much increase in performance if i fitted one? Read more
Lee,
If your 406 is a turbo D it will have an intercooler. It's located in front of the radiator - you can't miss the mass of air trunking running all over the engine bay!
There was a Xantia SD which used a turbo charged non intercooled version of the XUD 1.9 engine, but don't know if there was also a Peugeot version.

Is it illogical? It must be Citroen....
Must admit I always put the boot down when passing any sort of truck. I know most of the drivers are good, but even the best driver can miss someone with fairly restrictive mirrors.
Something else that gave me a fright two or three times today driving back down the A1/M1/M62 was when overtaking a truck that indicated to pull out as I about half way passed, but the vehicle behind me flashed the truck out! I'm sitting there hoping the truck has realised I'm there and hasn't taken the flash from behind as an OK to move out... Read more
Curiously enough this morning a colleague witnessed a BMW being side
swiped by a lorry . In this case the lorry was swerving
to avoid a slow moving maniac who changed lane into his
path. Even more curiously only last week a colleague sitting 10
feet away was side swiped by a lorry changing lanes. The
passenger side of his nearly new Micra was destroyed. And a
few years back someone else in our company was also side
swiped. As I mentioned in another thread, I have come close
to being side swiped twice, have seen one near miss, and
seen one collision taking place.
It does seem to be a serious problem.
I\'m not an HGV driver and I think Fifth gear and the associated paranoia that has erupted has been blown out of all proportion.
On motorways 70.2 percent of traffic is composed of cars and motorcycles, only 11.6 percent are heavy goods vehicles and about only half of those the heaviest articulated type
www.dft.gov.uk/stellent/groups/dft_transstats/docu...f
Car drivers need to use their eyes more and notice what is going on around them on a motorway, then accidents can be avoided. Don\'t just look at the car in front or 2 cars in front... look as far as you can and if you can\'t see, ease back and give yourself space and time. If two lorries are following each other closely there is a good chance one might indicate right and pull out to overtake the one in front. If a lorry is in lane 1 and a junction is being passed, expect it to try and get into the next lane to allow traffic to join the motorway.
There is no need for a car to overtake an HGV slowly. HGVs are limited to 56 (true) mph and are only likely to exceed this downhills. Cars aren\'t limited and so can overtake easily and quickly.
I find it quite interesting that since there are more cars and motorcycles than any other type of vehicle on the road and incidentally according to
www.dft.gov.uk/stellent/groups/dft_transstats/docu...f
cars are more likely to be speeding by more than 5 mph in urban areas and more than 10 mph in non urban areas than any other kind of vehicle. Because of the sheer number of cars around there are also more likely to be involved in an accident. Statistically lorries are far safer than cars. Sounds like the pot calling the kettle black to me.
Just had a visit from a very good friend, on his way home from a trip to the NEC Motorcycle Show. He's the classic case, had a modest bike in his teens and now at 45 with a bit of money behind him, he's all excited about the idea of buying a super fast bike.
You see so many reports of this all ending in tragic accidents and I don't want him to die! How do I talk him out of it? Read more
For some tips on how to ride, download (& I'm sure you know which web site), a 2 min movie file called 'Ghost Rider'.
TOTALLY AWESOME!
I have a 318 with the new fuel efficient valvetronic engine. Does anyone with a similar car check their fuel consumption figures? I'm getting 43mpg on the motorway, and 33mpg on A roads. This seems less than BMW's own figures. Is this normal? Also, does it make any difference using Super Unleaded, and if so is this worthwhile financialy?

DavidHM{p}- now the sonsors fixed it's doing 40mpg on an A road with quite heavy traffic, so should be even better on the motorway at 60-70mph! Maybe it's worth asking your garage to check you Focus to make sure the engine is optimally tuned, and there are no broken oxygen sensors or anything.
... I've got some on my car. Not normally a problem, but this stuff is tacky like gum (and blue, and smells of menthol - I reckon the neighbours have been putting cough sweets out on their bird table) and doesn't come off with normal scrubbing from a sponge, and I don't want to damage my paintwork.
Any suggestions for products / approaches that can get rid of it?
Cheers,

Yup
its the brids eating berries. You need to be very careful with this type of bird poo its very acidic and can eat into the paintwork in hours. As has been noted it stains too.
Not that new, but i saw an X registered one today - X48 *** - that must be a record similar to the "new" Maestros (A) mentioned on an earlier thread.

Richard Burns, who passed out at the wheel on the way to the RAC rally of Wales, has been diagnosed with a brain tumor.

My best wishes goes with him, we dont need to be robbed of any more motoring sporting greats.
(and in line with my renown lack of bad taste and purile comments, I often thought that brain damage may explain the way Colin McRae drives at times, but not Burnsie!) Read more

Best wishes for a full and speedy recovery, and hopefully the 2005 championship.
(Dont know if this will become a speed camera thread?)
Sat afternoon I was driving in Middlesbrough. On approaching a busy junction I noticed a police car, parked on double yellow lines, less than 100 yds from traffic lights, effectively blocking a left filter lane. Bet you can guess what he was doing! Thats right, he was operating a scamera!
Got home, incensed, phoned local newspaper, told them about it. I said if you can get there quick, you\'ll be able to get a photo.
They said they may run it, and actually DID!!
You can see it online at www.eveninggazette.co.uk

Yes. Well in, PR! You've restored my faith in some people caring enough about things to do something. Thanks.
Dear All
Has anybody out there had problems with the key for the VW MK4 breaking at the part that attaches to the key ring so that it can no longer be put on a key ring.
I know that it is only a small thing, but both the keys supplied with the vehicle have now broken like this, and it is only a matter of time before one is lost.
Any ideas on a way forward, as you would expect VW are not interested.
Thanks

Dear HectorG
Thanks for your reply.
Unfortunately the sturdy metal bracket, which I have as the car is March 2001 registered, is not as strong as it looks, and one end breaks off from the key fob itself.
This has happened on both of the supplied keys. I am not convinced that it is metal.

They're supposed to be pretty good: Roomy for size, reliable, adequate performance. A colleague of mine bought one new when they first came out, and despite there now being more similar-shaped beasts from other manufacturers to choose from, he recently changed it for a new one exactly the same.
They're a little dull to look at. The front of the latest versions I get confused with the Hyundai Getz. Looks like there's a bit of brightwork missing around the grille or somewhere! Still, an anonymous-looking car can have its own benefits.
