From the current net edition of W.M. Express & Star. This is the kit that Sandwell were using a short while ago with considerable success in tracking miscreants of one sort or another (speeding or otherwise)

Oh right - you mean they are still just reading the number plate. Doh! (but relieved)

Over the last few weeks I've been seeing a white estatein Crawley which loooks very like a Volvo 900 series, except...

It has very low profile tyres (like rubber bands really)
A front spoiler similar to that on my Alfa 75 Veloce
An exhaust pipe the size of a drainpipe
A rear roof spoiler
The only badges on it say Autech Version
It's an 'R' registration
Darkened windows.

I reckon I'm a bit of a petrolhead, but I've never seen or heard of one of these before. BTW it's right hand drive.

Any ideas?? Read more

Personally I thought Volvo entering BTCC with an estate was a master stroke.

1) It got them noticed and talked about.
2) They were in a win-win situation.
option 2A if they did well the implied message being, if we can do this with an estate just imagine.....
option 2B If they did badly, implied message, well what do you expect its a blooming estate.....

Marketing at its very best in my honest opinion.

Being totally ignorant of most mechanical aspects of a car, could anyone please advise me if the wheels are removed during the MOT test? The reason being is that it is due soon and I was planning to rotate the tyres to even out the wear, but it would save me the hassle of doing it myself if the MOT tester were to do it for me if the wheels had to be removed anyway. Thanks for any info. Read more

"Just Tyres" I was pleased to see use a spider brace and a torque wrench and are still competetive;they even fitted the new tyres on the front and moved the previous front wheels to the back all for no charge.EXCELLENT!!!

I need to get a small family size diesel car (i.e. Astra size). I would not buy new, instead I would prefer to buy a 1 to 2 year old car. £9k max budget. I will be doing 18K miles per year and would be looking to keep the car for 5 years. Can anybody recommend what make / model might suit me best?

Thanks in advance

Actually at this price it would be hard to fault a petrol Mondeo. Every Peugeot and Citroen diesel over 3 years old that I see seems to be making a lot of smoke but you tend not to see that from the driver's seat.

BX diesel; engine difficult to start, may then run for a while before fading out. Found a leak in the fuel system (at it's most inaccessible point at the back of the engine) large enough to produce a weedy squirt of diesel when the primer pump is operated. Clearly air can get in, which would account for rough starting. Is this really likely to be enough to fade it out even at 2-3000rpm or am I looking for something else as well?.

And it was only in the garage for 144k cambelt and MoT (passed, no mention of a fuel leak) on Thursday.

Comments?

Thanks in anticipation.

Sorted;

Tried to fettle it myself but cusses, bruises and contact dermatitis from a sleeve full of diesel convinced me it was a job for professionals. Nat Breakdown/Green Flag/Direct Line seemed pretty clueless in spite of hints but flat backed it to the local PSA specialist.

£40 plus parts and VAT to replace both supply and return fuel lines (the latter looked dodgy as well).

Thanks for the comments etc

MY PARENTS (IN THEIR 70S) CURRENTLY OWN A PEUGEOT 306 1.4 WHICH MY DISABLED FATHER NOW FINDS DIFFICULT TO CLIMB INTO. THE TOP OF THE DOOR IS TOO LOW AS HE FINDS IT DIFFICULT TO BEND HIS BACK. IS THERE A MODERN CAR THAT YOU CAN RECOMMEND WHICH OFFERS A GOOD DOOR-SIZE WITH GOOD INTERNAL HEADROOM IN THE CAR? HE'S IN A WHEEL CHAIR SO THEY WILL ALSO NEED GOOD BOOT SPACE WITH NOT TOO HIGH A LIP TO THE BOOT. (THE VW POLO 2 DOOR IS NOT SUITABLE BECAUSE THE WHEELCHAIR IS TOO DIFFICULT TO MANOEUVRE INTO THE BOOT.) Read more

Whichever vehicle they choose, check out the dealer is clued up on the Motability scheme & that you get them all of the benifits/entitlements they can claim.

When replying to posts, my ISP address is put in as 'ilford.mdip.bt.net'. I understand others who make bogus posts have had this address too.

I do not make bogus, offensive or anonymous posts. I also have no choice as to what the system puts in for the ISP address.

I find it irritating when I try to make a sensible post asking genuine questions and I am shot down in flames because the system has put 'ilford.mdip.bt.net' in the ISP address field and individuals therefore assume I am a bogus poster. I can do nothing about this, but ask that I am treated as the genuine person I am.

Just because someone is making anonymous and bogus posts from 'ilford.mdip.bt.net' should not mean that all of us with similar ISP addresses should be treated badly. I do not live near Ilford, and do not use an ISP with Ilford or BT in the name. I have a genuine interests in cars and have and would never make bogus or irresponsible posts.

Thank you. Read more

As they would say in my part of the world, on seeing your post, "What's that got to do with Paisley?" Or do you simply mean that *you* know how to create a bogus address?

In the last thread HJ mentioned paint protection. I have just ordered a new car and the saleman tried to get me to buy paint and interior protection for £299 approx, Diamondbrite I think it was. The question is, is it any good or would I be better sticking to Autoglym etc?

Thanks in advance for any views on this. Read more

Mike ..
This all sounds like some dodgy 'infomercial' on satelite TV.
Does the salesmen put a blow torch on the paintwork as well ?
