I can't believe the cheek Can anyone explain their poor communication and where do i stand? Read more
Why does my local SEAT dealer insist on charging £300 for a cambelt change on my Arosa 1.7 diesel? I have looked at the access to this part and it is mounted under a flimsy plastic cover with clear access. Even the idler pulley is staring me in the face. The belt costs £38+VAT. I reckon this is no more than 1 hour's work of £50+vat. Is this another case of the "great dealer rip-off" or is there more work required than I think? Comments welcome!! Read more
Daryl,
Not justifying but perhaps explaining it.
Belt - £38
Tensioner and guide bearing/rollers - £85
2.3hrs @ £50 - £115
VAT - £42
£280 near enough??
Go to an independent who should save 50% off the belt and labour costs. If the main dealer wasn't going to change the tensioner/guide bearings he is a bit steep.

Is is normal for most cars to have to change the tensioner as well?
Any ideas what might be causing this problem with 1600 Honda engine in my recently acquired Rover.
At norm. temp , on tickover - It shows a momentary slight dip in R.P.M ocurring aprox every 5/6 secs and have also notice a simultaneous 'popping' at the tailpipe. It never actually cuts out.
There appears to be no problems at all when under acceleration and the car is generally performing well. Programmed fuel injection is fitted with,(so I am told) little scope for adjustment. Read more
Tired or dirty O2 sensor will cause this problem by not reacting/correcting fuelling quickly enough. Result is that momentarily the mixture goes too weak causing misfire. Try a tankful of Texaco or a dose of Forte Gas. Treatment
If I have a VW diesel that is the 90 bhp version, what's the differenec in this and the 110 bhp version. Is it mechanical or simply a matter of 'remapping' or chipping ? Perhaps this sounds a bit thick but this seems like a good place to ask. Any offers on how to increase both bhp and torque ?
Thanks Read more
The difference between the 90hp and 110hp version is 20hp as intended by the marketing boys ;-)
I am sending my old style 2000X Corsa 1.2 16v SXi in for a 6 month oil and filter change (it does a low mileage) and I am wondering how much should I expect to be charged at local Vauxhall dealer (3 yr warranty not yet expired). Also what oil should go in this engine?
Thanks

Thanks guys
I bet it's nice and warm in winter.
I bought a 1.6 (105bhp) Golf in '00 expecting top-notch quality from VW. Since buying the car I have had a number of small problems that, although not major, left the feeling that the actual quality did not quite match the brand image.
- Boot flooded from broken rear washer
- Rear seats flooded from broken rear washer pipe in roof
- Used 1L of oil in first 7K (has not needed any since then)
- Rear light bulbs replaced 3 times with only 12K on the clock
(Dealer has been great - dealt with all issues quickly)
I have read a lot of similar posts from other VW owners - I am considering buying a new A4 1.9TDi next year and am wondering if Audis suffer from the same issues? Any feedback from A4 owners would be much appreciated.
Thanks Read more
BTW - I tried an A4 Tdi (130) for a few hundred miles a while back. I thought it was pretty awful, very noisy, "sports" seats that were very uncomfortable and quite a few squeaks and rattles.
I was going to buy an A4 until then but even Audis seem to be declining in quality. Or has everyone else caught up?
Hi,
I am about to take my VW Golf GTI for its first service tomorrow and i am abit worried as last time (different car , different dealership) i put my car in for a service and came back with a dent and some scratches which i had never seen before and i am now concern history will repeat itself........
should i get the guys from the dealership to take a look at the car before handing me keys to them?... Read more
Evo,
I know exactly how you feel. When I leave my Audi in for a service I do worry about how it's moved around, dirt on the seats, scratches, dents etc. Though I haven't gone as far as asking the service manager to inspect the car - not yet, anyway!
I always ask them to write on the job sheet that I don't want it washed or cleaned inside. I haven't had a problem yet and I'm sure the service manager thinks I'm a bit over-protective, though I think making requests like this helps to get the message across that they're dealing with an expensive piece of your property. He now knows me as the guy who insists on 5,000 mile oil/filter changes and not the recommended 10,000 mile ones!
Keep them on their toes. You pay top dollar for their service - demand top quality treatment of you and your motor.

Pat
Hi can anyone help me with regards to the above??
I'm only getting 30 ish mpg no matter how I drive it even though I mainly drive 30 miles to and from work each day on a motorway.
generally only drive at about 60 mph.
Anyway its a 1991 model with new airfilter and fuel filter which I fitted a month ago.
ANY ideas will greatly be appreciated as £45 a week is a bit excessive to keep me going to work.
I had another of these cars before and always got at least 50 mpg plus!!!!!!!!!!!1 Read more
Would there be any way that I could possibly improve economy??
Smaller injectors or something like that?? I'm not botherd about performance at all just economy..
Forgot to mention that it chucks out a grey coloured smoke almost constantly its not using water or oil so could it be over fuelling if so any ideas how i would adjust it???
My work colleague has her heart set on buying a Mini Cooper S. The only problem is paying for it!
What is the best option for her: bank loan, hire purchase etc... and how does it all work as I am not too good on this! I have looked at the FAQs but don't think that anything covers the question.
Any help or experiences buying a Cooper S would be appreciated.

My daughter bought a mini one, one month ago she did finance HP with BMW for 5K it was the cheapest money around without any protection about £155.00 per month although there was an arrangement fee of £80.00, not sure what that was for. My wife has ordered an S but wont get it untill at least November unless those in front drop out.
It's a pain in the yaris, Miss Flather.....................
