Road Fund licences up 10%.
All "to fund the NHS" which now spends something like 55% of it's revenues on administration. Read more
About 2 Years ago my 2L Auto Omega started stalling when idling - eg when approaching a roundabout or right turn. After much aggro with the local dealer I noticed the onset of the problem coincided with the start of ULS petrol. I then started to fill up with 'super' ie 97RON, and have had no recurrance. However, the trouble with intermittent faults is, you can never be sure if they are cured. Anyone else been there or can comment ? Read more
Nissan dealers are now charging £25+VAT just to find price and delivery for parts for Jap imports.
So if you've got one of these, do as I did, and give them a list of 10 (max) items to get your money's worth, even if you don't want the other items!
Strange attitude, considering Toyota now have the capability to find parts for imports at the parts counter FOC. Read more
That stinks. It really does.
"They gave me the customer care number so I'll have a go at them on Monday"
Don't hold your breath, Dave......You'll probably be answered by some agency girl etc etc
Think yourself lucky you can get parts for Nissans.......'nuff said :-(

Well, he may be a bit paranoid (who wouldn't be, writing security software for Windows!) but on the whole, I think he's a force for good. I had his Spinrite software 13 years ago, and damned useful it was. Microsoft is the problem, not Steve Gibson. Linux, anyone?
Would a 185/60 tyre on a 14ins wheel swop with a 185/55 tyre on a 15ins wheel without any effect on handling or speedo etc, they both measure the same diameter, besides, my wifes 15ins alloys on her honda jazz would look better on my honda civic!. Read more
Would make a change from fluffy dice...
If this is real I'm sure that T2000 want it circulated as widely as possible:
A request from Transport 2000...
Those of you who are unlucky enough to get Channel 5 will know that, as well as the usual blend of pornography and documentaries on serial killers, you can now watch its own version of the Top Gear programme.
Fifth Gear began on Monday 8 April (last night) and seems to be aimed at the same slot as Top Gear, namely the car enthusiast/boy racer/ABD member/road rager market.
It seems that the former presenters of Top Gear - Quentin Wilson, Tiff Needell, Adrian Simpson and Vicki Butler-Henderson - have fled from the BBC to the new programme.
I suggest we keep a watch on Fifth Gear and make sure they don't get away with anything. We can start now because last night they had a major feature on speed cameras that was one sided and promoted a rather cavalier approach to speed and enforcement.
Specifically, the programme:
Mentioned nothing about the dangers of speed.
Mentioned nothing about how speed cameras have cut crashes and casualties.
Presented cameras as Police revenue earners.
Promoted dashboard camera detection equipment.
The programme did imply that this was not a complete look at the issues and that the subject might be revisited. However, it is certainly worth criticising the programme makers now and demanding that they redress the balance in future editions.
If you can, please write to the Channel 5 complaints line at dutyoffice@c... or phone it on 0845 705 0505.
Points you might like to mention are:
*The Transport Research Laboratory has found that excessive speed is a factor in more than one-third of fatal road crashes.
*Hit by a car at 35mph a person is twice as likely to be killed as someone hit at 30mph.
*Speed cameras have demonstrated the casualty reductions achievable through speed limit enforcement. A 1996 study of ten police forces showed that crashes were reduced by 28 per cent and speeds by an average 4.2mph per site. In West London cameras reduced fatal crashes by 70 per cent. In April 2000 the Government began a trial in which speeding fines were used to cover the costs of cameras. Now, in Lincolnshire, 45 per cent fewer drivers are exceeding the speed limit and crashes resulting in death and serious injury are down by 90 per cent at camera sites. In Northamptonshire speeds are down and so are the numbers of people killed and seriously injured: a 40 per cent reduction within eight months of the start date.
Many thanks for your time and effort...

Michael Palin you say....
Well this is definately the right room for an argument ;-) (or was that Eric Idle ?)
Was this the same organisation which slated Top Gear before ? I think Fifth Gears report echoed the views of many motorists and only the anti-motorist lobby will bother to complain.
I am the now the mildly irritated owner of one of these new fangled carburettor-less Golfs from the late eighties. (It's great really - just a little more complex than my clockwork Polo)
Anyway, the front exhaust silencer blows like a low flying Lancaster and I'm very reluctant to get one of the fast fit places to put another tissue paper box on with a 13 month rust through guarantee.
Does anywhere near Yeovil sell Ernst (or similar good quality) exhausts? I know G&S in Bristol do, but it's a bit far away. Or are there any decent exhaust suppliers around here? I'm not afraid to crawl underneath and fit it myself, so long as I don't ever have to do that section again.
Cheers,

National Tyres are offering an oil and filter change for £15.
The oil is Duckhams QXR (max. 5 litres)semi synthetic and the filter unspecified.
How do they do it?
Halfords charge £20.99 for QXR alone.
A small garage would charge, what, £20/hour labour?
At this price , is it worth getting your hands dirty? Read more
Perhaps people come back twice as often?
When the engine is cold there seems to be something funny with the clutch. The pedal seems to have a "sticky patch" halfway through lift off.
I was going to ask the garage to ease/grease the pedal but as this "symptom" disappears after about 10-15 mins, it has got me thinking whether it is the actual clutch rather than the pedal. Being Joe Public I have no idea how these things work but would appreciate any advice/thoughts. Read more
Does it have a hydraulic clutch? Audis are known for doing this - changing the hydraulic fluid often fixes it.
Yes, step forward the 'no blame' tories!
