I posted a few months ago that the STOP light on my ?96 Xantia 1.9TD Estate was taking a long time to go out, recently I?ve started to notice another irregularity ?

My car is equipped with the anti-dive suspension, however I started to notice that its begun to ?sit on its heels? i.e. the rear suspension drops (wheel arch drops to just below the top of the tyres, normally there is a 2-3 inch gap) after you switch the engine off, the front stays at the normal level. This probably started a few months back and has been gradually getting worse enough to notice.

After a ?cold? start, the stop light goes off but comes on about 3 or 4 times within the first 30 seconds (for a couple of seconds at a time). After that all is OK.

The car has done 135K+ and has been serviced every 6K,
I?ve checked the LHM level (at full height) and it?s at the top level,
The rear sphere where replaced (for new items) at 129K,
and yes, the car is set for the correct height.

Any ideas what may be the cause ?

PS. I remember from my last post, Darcy mentioned that my accumulator sphere may be on the way out ? is this another symptom ? Read more

Bill, you`ve got something in it that is causing it to be rejected. Send it to me and I'll post it for you.

I am taken with perhaps getting one of these when they come out pref the PD 130 TDI. I will go and take a look when they arrive in the showroom.

However does anyone know if an estate version is planned ?, both the pre release blurbs I have seen does not mention whether one is in the pipeline.

Well I liked it...
mind you he really demolished that C3 (literally!) but I did say it seemed a bit flimsy. and the one I saw was the top of the range!
on the whole, entertaining viewing, and the speed camera feature was the best advert for the gps warning systems yet. Read more

Unlike yourself, of course, who has an Audi TT and Kawasaki VN800 Classic (Hog copy to you) for pootling along at 30 everywhere.

Looks like the governments published, but unpublicised, research showing that people who tend to conform to speed limits tend to be the ones who oppose speed cameras, and vice versa, might just be true.

It's rapidly becoming obvious what your vices are.

Pug dealer phoned tonight, said as a gesture of goodwill they will replace my rear discs under warrenty. Shame i had to lose my temper in the dealership on sat morning, but i am happy now and more importantly the wife is too! Read more

Good on you and good luck. However, unless something has changed isn't the wear rate going to be the same as it was previously and so won't you have this problem again in a couple of years time when there is no warranty left??

But seriously, do consider moving away from those OE brake pads to something kinder to discs.

dan

Dear all,
If you recall some weeks ago l posted a problem with my lady's MR2 pulling to the right when braking. I've been on holiday, come back and thought l would find out what was up with it, (she had had it serviced in my absence). Oh she said, only seems to happen on the same turn in the road.

(turns out the camber caused this effect, but the synchronicity had escaped her logic for some weeks!!)

My Dad had a Cressida. But it was in the Middle East, and everyone had them. Good reasons for that - fabulous air conditioning, total reliability and interiors which didn't fall apart if left in the sun. It was a dull old motor though.

Unfortunately not quite that easy to reverse a train.

Before the train can 'set back', (I believe that is the correct term), the train crew have to contact the signal box controlling that section of track to inform it of their intention to do so. This was/is to fulfil any safety implications of reversing back up what is basically a one-way street. Certainly this was the case up until my father retired from the railway a few years back and I see no reason why it would have changed, if anything probably more difficult following Hatfield etc.
The driver may also find he is in for a bit of ear bashing from his boss as well as the signalman used to have to file a written report as to why. Mind you, the driver also used to have to file a report for running more than so many minutes late, five IIRC, there probably wouldn't be many trees left if they were still doing that!!!

Glancing through some old postings here, I see that someone mentioned naff motors.

Until recently I thought the worst was the set of leopardskin seat covers I saw years ago on a Beverley Sisters' car. But one of my neighbours has the reg A 15 OPV, which has been tortured so as to appear as ALSOP V. To make matters worse its in a bizarre sort of cursive script, which must be illegal, and its on an elderly doom blue Corsa. I reckon the plate cost more than the motor.

Seeing as most of today's posts have been too depressing for words, except for the glimmer of sense on the courtroom update, thought I would share a lighter moment from today with you all.

A bin lorry has run into some poor guys house in the Midlands today. This chap is an Elvis fan, and said bin lorry has demolished his front room together with most of his memorabilia. Just a sort of statue of the great man himself survived.

Reporter to Homeowner: So how are you feeling now?
Homeowner: I'm all shook up, uh huh huh.
Reporter to camera: And Elvis has not left the building.

Priceless, and almost on topic as well! Read more

Thank you Trevor, you are probably correct about the uh huh bit, I'm not enough of an Elvis fan to know.
