What my mechanic done so far; - New EGR system - Turbo cleaning - Brake/acceleration pad sensor - Air-flow meter - Hours calibrating the computer. May I add that no errors at all are being shown on the computer. Multiple versions were used and still no error. -
Applies to all - New Tyre Labels 18 Dec 2012 (Forum)
As far as the Wet grip and Noise ratings - I have checked some out- obviously tyre size may cause variation - but when I look on review sites to compare - some of the 'C' rated tyres for wet grip are generally getting better reviews than some of the 'B' and there does seem to be a bit of overlap - also one brand that is getting 'A' for wet grip and braking is definately not as grippy as some of the 'B' rated other makes it would seem. In my opinion - the labels are merely a rough guide. -
HJ; answers - repairs 11 Sep 2012 (Forum)
As soon as I approached motorway speeds, the vehicle began swerving violently and cork-screwing after hitting road undulations and proved difficult to control under braking. Needless to say, the car is back at the body shop. -
Peugeot 307 - Twist or stick? 9 Jul 2012 (Forum)
Knowing now of the reputation of French cars I’m not sure that we would make the same purchase today but, despite being a bit dull to drive, this car has been faultless in the 8 years that we have owned it and other than regular servicing, tyres, brakes and recently an exhaust there have been no unexpected costs. My dilemma is this. In the last month the car has developed a couple of electrical faults. The water temperature sensor and one of the ABS sensors have started playing up and I have started to consider whether to spend money on this car or look for a replacement. -
Honda Jazz - Honda Jazz 2004 Rear Pad & Disk Replacement Tips 15 Feb 2012 (Forum)
However i am not convinced by their diagnosis, all pads (and disks for that matter) are worn equally with no "bluing" the car brakes fine and straight (also with the handbrake) despite a 130mile motorway run both rear disks were only luke warm to the touch. During this "check" honda did not remove the wheeltrims never mind the wheels. -
Citroen c3 - false witness statement? 13 Dec 2011 (Forum)
I was involved in a car acident on 1/11/11 whereby a car went right into back of mine whilst i was moving - i have just turned a corner and due to parked cars you need to go slowly but as i have just got around the corner another car swung round behing me and went straight into my car - female driver got out and apologised and said she could not get brakes on - her car passenger headlamp was badly damaged my car had a slight cuff to bumper but nothing cosmetically really but when you press bumper it just flexs right in now i called my insurane ten minutes after accident no witnesses were present it was straight forward as far as i was concerned i would pop car into garage and get bumper fixed and not be too costly to the other driver as it was their fault after two weeks the other driver had still not made contact with her insurance and her insurane were attempting to make contact with her, finally they have managed to speak to her but she denies being at fault and states she has a witness. no witnesses were at the scence and both her and i drove off at same time as i could see her car directly behind me along rest of the road. -
Ford Transit 2003 FWD 2.0 TDCI - Dumping oil or fluid onto driveway and trailing 14 Oct 2010 (Forum)
It doesnt smell of anything so I'm guesing that rules out diesel. The stain is still on the road 2 days later. The oil level isnt moving. Brake and PAS fluid levels seem normal. Water level seems normal. There slight oil seepage from timing cover pump access plate, from the oil filter seal and from the bottom of the intercooler but nothing that suggests such a drastic fluid loss. -

How do you deal with aggressive drivers? 16 Aug 2010 (Forum)
What really got to me today was what happened next. The Polo passes me, then pulls into my lane and brakes hard in front of me, almost causing me to run into the back of them, so I had to swerve around them. The driver in the Polo then floors it and is off, thankfully not to be seen again... I was wondering what the backroomers would have done in a similar situation. -
Volkswagen Golf V - Mk 5 Golf GT TDI 140BHP Engine Problems!? 8 Jun 2010 (Forum)
2) When coming to a stop, the sometimes car feels like it is moving back and forward a couple of inches, as if the engine is not properly secured or like the ABS is trying to work and the brakes are biting and releasing - again, if that makes sense?! 3) Where I work, our driveway goes down a slope, so I often pull away, then put the car into neutral, take my foot off the clutch, then coast down the slope. -
Private Clampers - Advice needed 5 Jun 2010 (Forum)
so i thought i would have ago at taking the clamp off. been a van driver i had some tools. So i took the wheel off, took the caliper off as the chain also went under the brake hose, then undid the shock and managed to liberate the clamp. Photos where taken off it on the van, the signs and lack of signs. also took photos of the clamp after removal clearly showing no damage to the triangle, chain or lock. -
Peugeot 205 (1983 - 1997) - 91 1.6 Sick Pug 1 Aug 2009 (Forum)
Hi all, I am looking for a little advice on a slight problem with my pride and joy. When I got the car, It stalled when braked at junctions or stopped suddenly. I found a way to get round this by not engaging the clutch until the last minute which in most cases has worked till I could take time off work to investigate (suspected Cold Air Sensor) however I now have a bigger problem which I am not sure whether or not it's related. -
Nearly killed by a hire car 13 Jul 2009 (Forum)
We were travelling on the m6 toll in their car, going straight between 60 and 70mph as it was raining. 2 mins after it had started raining as i said going straight, the car just lost it, no swerving, no braking, nothing, it just lost it. The back left end just started sliding left. We spun 360 degrees, 3x, hit the central reservation barrier which ripped the front wheel off, was catapulted back into the carriageway, hit the drain gully spun 2 more times and miraculously ended up off all 3 lanes, pointing the right way up against the central reservation on all 3 tyres. -
Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - Finally bought a car, sort of, but...... 9 May 2009 (Forum)
Ditched the idea of the Avensis, went back to our original idea of the Focus (helped by the good reports from you guys) Saw and test drove a really nice 55 plate 1.6 TDCi Ghia Saloon in Panther black. (43K miles, one owner, years MOT and 6 months tax). It drove really really nicely, smooth quiet, no obvious signs of abuse, braked well and straight, clutch and gears a delight, a/c icy cold, cabin nice and tidy, seats still felt nice and firm, good tyres with loads of life in them. SWMBO also thought it was the business. It was on for £5995 and we got it down to £5600 which seems to be well under book for that model. -
Main dealer rip off. Can you better this? 7 May 2009 (Forum)
The fault was fixed (cooling fan) no problem but she was given a bill for £140 (may have been £180 not sure). This was because the dealer changed the brake fluid! He said it would normally be changed about now so we thought we,d change it. My brotherinlaw had an immaculate Vauxhall Omega 2.2 (think mileage was about 44,000) The main dealer spent 4-5 hours working on the car then said a new fuel pump will cost you £2000 + another 4-5 hours labour at £110 an hour or we will give you £300 for the car (book just over£2000) so he let them have the car. -
Milked at dawn - `bring it in at 8.30 sir`... 25 Feb 2009 (Forum)
That usually means the `receptionist` behind who`s skill at pricing top dollar jobs - lurks hungry looking share holders - wanting to spend winter in Florida. So the old story continues - you pick up the phone and ask ` How much for a brake fluid change` - "That will be £57.30p" - you then ring the other dealer (same marque) 16 miles away and it`s £30. You remember when the first dealer tried to double up the labour for a new waterpump (to be fitted at the same time as the cambelt) and when challenged - the receptionist said " It`s an extra £120 (labour, excluding the pump )sir because we have to drain the cooling system" (done at the second dealer for £120 less) Then you remember the time you asked the first dealer "how much to fit a new door check strap" - "That will be £75 sir" - challenged - "I made a mistake with the price sir - its £55" Then you buy one from parts for £13 and fit it yourself - in doing so you find a shortcut through the speaker housing that lets it be fitted in 10minutes.. ( of course never intended to let them fit it - as it`s become a sport in itself getting inflated quotes) All I can say is, be careful who you buy a car from... -
dealers or manufacturers going to up their game? 10 Feb 2009 (Forum)
(I haven't for example inc a sunroof, although that would be a definite for me) - full sized spare wheel (what's all this space saver or mousse carp) - easy to reach bulbs front and rear, (because let's face it they occasionally blow) - easy to change headlamp settings for trips abroad - robust cupholders e.g. near the hand brake, not some flimsy plastic thing that would last a week or something Q would have been proud of. - 'normal' cars to have comfort a priority over out and out handling (if you want to do your Lewis Hamilton or Sebastien Loeb, order one with Sports suspension) etc, etc as for the dealers: - how about treating a customer like Indian Restaurants do i.e. as if you're actually welcome and would welcome you buying their product - how about showing your item for the price you're willing to sell it at, rather than a faslely inflated figure that the unwary/those that lack confidence, might pay -
Toyota Avensis (2009 - ) - New Avensis 16 Jan 2009 (Forum)
Was set to lock as you drive away but does not unlock as you get out (as the Octavia does), I had to unlock the car to get my coat of the back seat! The electric hand brake is out of reach when sitting normally, I have to lean forward to operate it. The door handles are not easily within reach. Why put the fuel cap release and traction control switch low down below the steering wheel just where the switch illumination annoys me at night but in a difficult place to reach! -
Auction bargains - No V5 21 Nov 2008 (Forum)
My Focus is still a going well. and is still on original exhaust, clutch, battery, starter motor, alternator etc. Apart from regular servicing, tyres and brakes, the only bills i've had are sub £100 to replace a hydraulic pipe (between clutch pedal and gearbox), and sub £100 to diagnose loss of power and replace HT leads and plugs to fix. I don't need to change, but I am tempted and may keep the Focus in the famly and move my mother's Punto on. -
Ford Mondeo III (2000 - 2007) - 150,000 mile tdci report 6 Jul 2008 (Forum)
The only major issue has been a failed water pump, which also took out the power steering pump. I've also had a rear brake caliper seize which was easy enough to change. I've done almost all the servicing myself, just oil and filter every 10000 miles and a new air and pollen filter occasionally. Actually, the pollen filter was changed for probably the first time in the cars life earlier this year.
