Peugeot 308 - ABS light permanently on. 25 Feb 2016 (Forum)
Thought it could be blocked dbf or whatever so put in some Diesel Particulate Filter Cleaner and took it on motorway for about 15 miles. This seemed to do the trick and message disappeared. I now have a ABS brake fault displayed permanently. I have taken it to my mechanic who says that it's a specialist job. The diagnostics state that it's the ABS pump - "stating recirculation pump electrical fault permanent." -
Peugeot 207 1.4 diesel 2011 - Peugeot 207 electrical fault? 15 Dec 2015 (Forum)
Last week my 207 gave me a 'low screen wash' warning, so I topped up and it was fine. On a short journey a few days later it flashed up with braking and power steering faulty but then they went and there was nothing for a week driving every day about 80 miles up and down the motorway so I assumed a blip., then a few days ago the drivers headlight died and it's not the bulb. -
VW Golf - Adaptive cruise control 29 Oct 2015 (Forum)
I was keeping a couple of car lengths behind the Golf, the queue started moving, the car in front of the Golf moved off, the Golf didn't move until the car in front was a good few car lengths in front, Golf accelerated, then when it was about 5 car lengths from the car in front of it the car simply slammed on the brakes and stopped leaving a huge gap. Car in front moved off, because of the huge gap Golf moved off almost immediately, car in front slowed, Golf slammed on and stopped leaving a huge gap again. Of course every time a car stops it lengthens the queue behind. -
Peugeot 308 SW, ford focus - can't decide between 308sw and focus estate. 16 Oct 2015 (Forum)
for the same price, peugeot has bigger and better finished boot, much more toys (sat-nav, front sensors, rear camera, full LED, electric park brake, etc) and (on paper) punchier engine but ford has (in my opinion) better cockpit, little better front seats and maybe looks a bit better in front (Titanium grille). Both have 5year general warranty here but peugeot also has 7years warranty for engine and transmission. -
invisible indicators, grrr 23 Jul 2015 (Forum)
The placing of indicators so close to bright DRLs (the Qashqai is one example of many) renders them all but invisible and, at the rear, the adjacent LED brake lights on some cars (Audi Q7, I'm looking at you, with your pseudo-Knight Rider effects!) seem to absorb all the light from the indicators. (Not that Audi drivers are likely to wear the indicator bulbs out in record time...) -
Ford Mondeo Mk5 (1.5 Ecoboost) - Running in Period 5 Jun 2015 (Forum)
I understand that there needs to be a period of time where you treat the car very carefully interms of revs, speed, acceleration, braking etc to allow the car to bed itself in. My initial thoughts on this is to work back from when that would not be practical to ensure that I order it and get a delivery date that allows plenty of time. -
Ford Mondeo 2.0 diesel titanium - Snapped Fan Belt 9 May 2015 (Forum)
A while ago my car had water leak into the wiring loom. Ford replaced this and all was well other than a brake light which sometimes worked and sometimes did not. However in the recent hot spell I noticed that my Air Con wasn't working. I was going to drop it into the ford dealership this week, but the car pre-emped this. -
Possible crash scam 5 May 2015 (Forum)
I was on the way to work this morning, rounded a bend, and up ahead a car pulled out from a junction. It moved slowly, then just as it moved into my lane, it came to a dead stop. I braked sharply. About one second after I stopped, he pulled away, then at the next junction, turned left, then swung right, ready to move out. I stopped to look into the car. It was an old car, UK plates, with a Russia sticker, two males mid thirties, inside. -
Ford Fiesta Saloon 1.2 zeetec petrol reg 2000 - Will a small exhaust hole affect fuel consumption 23 Mar 2015 (Forum)
I know short journeys and cold weather ruin fuel consumption but over the last few tankfulls it has been as low as 24 mpg average, previous winters were 28/30 mpg. I have checked the obvious eg binding brakes, all the wheels turn fairly easily when jacked up, the tyre pressures are as per the handbook, the airfilter is not clogged or dirty. I have noticed that the rear exhaust silencer box is fairly rusty where the pipe from the centre box joins the rear box. -
TBA - guess the make 16 Nov 2014 (Forum)
Presumably trying desperately to overtake the van and not having a clue how to do so, jammed within a cars length of the back of the van at around 45mph kept edging out beyond the crown of the road braking constantly to avoid hitting the van, eventually the van pulled over and parked on the offside in a villlage. Our friend then went shooting off, lit the speed display up @ 45 in the 30 as he passed by, i came up behind him before the next village, jammed right up the chuff of a Combo van presumably trying to push him on. -
Peugeot 407 SW - Over revving issues - really need help!! 3 Nov 2014 (Forum)
It is quite scary when it happens - when I have stationery or slowing down, its as if it does not want to, and keeps revving on its own, even when I have my foot on the brake. I have had the AA out once and they followed me to the garage (Peugoet, as he recommended), and he thought it was a over run valve?? I have today discovered (which could be relevant), that it seems to happen when its raining (sounds strange I know), but when I think back, it has been raining each time its happened, and part way into my journey when it starts - it is fine in the dry whetehr?? -
Mercedes C220 CDI 2007 (W203) - Merc C220 Oil Pump Failure 30 Aug 2014 (Forum)
2 days ago the car broke down when being driven at low speed, with a screeching noise, severe loss of power and firm brake pedal. There were no warning lights and there was no increase in operating temperature. The car was recovered by low loader to the garage that did the service. They stripped the vacuum pump and found it had little or no oil in it. -
Vauxhall Vectra C - car written off - how to get the true value? 5 Feb 2014 (Forum)
This was posted in my other post about my Vectra. It was written off by a bus whose brakes failed. Liability admitted. My insurer yesterday offered me £1399. (I paid £1800 in July 2013). After I calmed down I asked what planet this "market valuation" was obtained on. -

My unit failed and I eventually had to just cut the cables to allow me to use the car.Ive been driving the car but spent past couple of weeks in limbo. -
BMW E39 523i - MOT Emmissions Failure - BMW E39 523i 11 Feb 2013 (Forum)
Assuming this doesn't solve the problem, is there any other way around this? The car is to good to scrap - sweet engine, smooth gearbox and have replaced rear brakes, front tyres and given her an oil and filter service recently. Ideas? -
Automatic handbrakes - stupid stupid stupid 28 Jan 2013 (Forum)
What do you do in a car which requires you to have your left foot on the clutch, right foot on the footbrake (which it needs to be before you can release the brake by pressing the button on the dash) and also need a third leg for the accelerator. The answer in this case is use the torque of a diesel to help and use fancy foot work, but my friend who is a reasonable driver of many years experience was stumped and it took me more than a few seconds to work out what to do and get the car out of the parking bay. -
Skoda Yeti 1,2 TSI DSG - Skoda Yeti "skittish" driving behaviour 7 Oct 2012 (Forum)
Recently the car has started to feel (what I can best describe as) "bouncy and twitchy/skittish" but with neither steering judder or other sensation nor straight line deviation even under braking - and less noticeable on motorways. Tyres are original Continental contipremium2 215/16/HR16 maintained at the recommended 2.2 bar with no signs of uneven wear across a tyre. -
Citroen Xsara 2.0HDI VTR - Streering issue 7 Oct 2012 (Forum)
Before i had the issue like to point out that i had worn wheel bearings on the front passanger side that were replaced, then had the wheels reballenced an the tracking redone The issue is this, when i brake the steering shudders from 40 to 30mph and is fine again, also when the just the left wheel hits a bump or pothole the steering wheel gets a tug but this doesnt happen when the right wheel hits a bump or pothole Other sympoms are that it always pulls to the left, but under hard acceleration it pulls to the right Other than that the car drives like a dream, very smooth whith no steering vibrations right up 100mph.
