  • Skoda Citigo - Red face 21 Jul 2014 (Forum)
When I had almost got the car in place a roofer, who had been reroofing a house down the avenue, and thus with an 'overall view', kindly climbed down, came up the avenue and told me to push in both the brake and clutch pedals before turning the ignition key.   Thank you, kind sir !
  • Ford Mondeo tdci - mondeo tdci whine, DMF, Pulley, other? 10 Jun 2014 (Forum)
Will do it when coasting downhill with no throttle as well, particularly if in third gear for instance and engine braking seems to be happening. If anyone can advise what may be the cause I'd be grateful. I have had it into dealership who, as far as I can tell, plugged in the diagnostic and said no fault code so no fault.
  • VW Polo Classic Formel C (1986) - Cutting Out 10 May 2014 (Forum)
I have had this vehicle since new, and have just spent £500+ on repairs sills, carb cleaning and new gasket. and other parts. However just recently  the vehicle keeps cutting out when braking and will not idle. The vehicle repair service that I normally use cannot find the problem.  He has stripped the Pierburg Carb and renewed the gaskets. Servicing has been done etc. Battery is new.
  • any - Check if its exchange 20 Apr 2014 (Forum)
Well i've made a slight mistake that has just cost me £30. Had to get a brake caliper for the Mitsi we've just sold, searched around and the cheapest by a country mile was carparts4less on their ebay shop. ordered, arrived in a couple of days, refurb unit, fitted it, all good, new MOT passed, car sold, finito.
  • Peugeot 407 SW 2L diesel HDi Auto - pollution warning light 20 Jan 2014 (Forum)
Problem was a partially blocked fuel filter which I didn't have to pay for. ( I think it should have been replaced on the last service ~40k, and they didn't bother or forgot.) Had to fit new brake pads as they were very low and due soon anyway. So far the 407 has been fine- fast enough, smooth and comfortable. I have had the car for 6 months and it is now nearly 4 years old. I plan on keeping it for about 4-5 years, assuming it behaves itself.
  • Ford Focus II (2004 - 2007) - 07 1.6 Confusion over front disc size 16 Jun 2013 (Forum)
I have a 2007 Focus 1.6 Zetec and having been looking to buy front brake discs and pads online. There seems to be two sizes of disc around to confuse matters however - 278mm and 300mm. I have removed a wheel and tried measuring the disc as best I can but it is awkward with the hub in the way.
  • Ford S Max - Ford S Max Titanium - 150,000 miles - Worth buying 10 May 2013 (Forum)
The CamBelt was changed 1 year ago, but the cost to do it was only £279 which to me seems a bit cheap therefore I don't know if this was a full CamBelt change or not. Other stuff like the tyres, brakes, A/c have all been services and replaced in the past 3 years. I didn't notice any change to the suspension or clutch though. Do you think this sounds ok? They want £4400 for it, and if this car had 120/130 thousand miles on the clock I would probably buy it but 154,000 seems a bit high.
  • Cyclists and the law, or indeed above it. 3 May 2013 (Forum)
A cyclist was cycling along a cycle path and suddenly turned off the cross a Zebra Crossing. The motorist in front of me had to brake violently to avoid a collision, 3. On numerous occasions I have seen cyclists turn left when traffic lights are red, if they feel it is safe to do so. 4. In front of me a motorist was stationary at a red traffic light indicating to turn left at the front of a queue.
  • Ford Focus 2000 - Accelerator pedal sticking to floor 2 May 2013 (Forum)
What then ensues is my mild heart-attack/panic while the engine goes, "Sqeeeeeeee," and then I tap the brakes... which seems to make it pop up again. The pedal action isn't that smooth or sensitive normally, but it's never jammed itself down before. Some of the online problem solvers suggest that the throttle body needs cleaning, some say there's a cable that needs replacing.
  • KIA cee'd - 2008 1.6D Kia Cee`d grinding noise from front 6 Sep 2012 (Forum)
I thought that it might be a worn driveshaft joint or bearing so I had the car in with the dealer today. After examining the car they told me that the brake pads had a bit of a glaze on them and so they removed them, buffed them and refitted them. These pads were changed about 3500 miles ago both front and rear at 65000 miles and at the time (2 months ago) I was told the discs were in good condition.
  • Skoda Fabia 1.2 70 HP engine - Electrical fault 27 Aug 2012 (Forum)
Subsequently, the Hazard lights came on and could not be switched off, followed by total loss of central locking, windows, indicators and brake lights,  No reasonable / logical check / attempts to rectify achieved anything. Upon my examiantion i found that the fuses allocated to the antitheft alarm were not provided. I called RAC and the service man could not find anything on the diagnostic system, he went through all fuses and connection and still coul not find anything, but the fault is still present.
  • CLK 320 - four year report 6 Jul 2012 (Forum)
Servicing is around £200 for an 'a' service at the excellent specialist in Kingsclere and a 'b' service nearer £450 every 2 years. Apart from tyres and brakes the pse pump went which was around £600 and the roof mechanism failed....£1000 plus at the main dealers....£100 at indie who replaced a part. Passed its mot this morning with advisories on tyres. I've done 10k a year on average and have clocked up 140k.
  • Toyota Avensis - Toyota Avensis 1.8 Petrol 1st week 31 May 2012 (Forum)
Well i did eventually part with £12,300 for a 11 plate Toyota Avensis Tourer 1.8 with 8,000 miles on the clock. It is in superb condition. I have got used to the parking brake now. Nice smooth car to drive and looks the part. Love the sat nav, bluetooth and the MP3 via USB Drivewise it could do with a little more power but i will have to cope rev hard and it not too bad.
  • Sold car, buyer phoning me about problems 14 May 2012 (Forum)
He came today with his mechanic to pick it up, money is safe in my bank account, and the mechanic took it for a drive, he said there was an issue with the wheel bearings, so while on the drive we took it to two garages who test drove it and stated there were no wheel bearing problems. He's now rang me to say the brakes were juddery on the way home. He's not asking for any compensation for it, but he's just ringing me to tell me the problems. I have a feeling he's going to ask for compensation for the issues. What legal recourse does he have over this?
  • Darwin award 2012 goes to... 12 Apr 2012 (Forum)
On realising there were about 500 cars and buses thundering towards him Continental-style (i.e. anti-clockwise) he again TURNED ROUND and drove round the roundabout once more. I couldn't help but watch as a minute later the driver reached Av. Wagram, braked sharply and executed a sharp 90 degree turn right in front of a Czech tourist coach and a police minibus and carried merrily on his way.
  • Volkswagen Passat - Acceleration goes down on motorways 14 Mar 2012 (Forum)
My VW PASSAT S TDI drives well around town but when I go on motorways, specially if its uphill, you feel a clear damp in the acceleration as someone has applied brakes on it and then its just no power in the engine. I put my foot down on the floor and it takes ages to get from 60mph to 70mph and it doesn't go above 80mph, I remember it has gone up to 120mph and the engine use to give a nice whistle like sound when I use to accelerate hard but not any more.
  • '03 Ford Focus TDCI - Sudden loss of power 22 Jul 2011 (Forum)
No diagnosis required!  Driving to work last week in my Focus, the engine suddenly died, loss of PAS, potentially brake servo assistance, etc  Engine turned over but would not restart.  Stranded on major 'A'-road for 1h waiting recovery... Car towed to my local garage, who found the problem was a failed cam sensor.
  • Ford Ka - Blown HG or cracked cylinder head? 23 May 2011 (Forum)
I am fixing my ka, so far changed oil + coolant + air filter + 4x spark plugs + ICV Spark plugs were the biggest b!tch, rusted to hell in the endura engine and wouldn't budge, took days of vinegar + some brake fluid to get them free without snapping, phew! Car is really smooth now, no noises, APART FROM... Oil is leaking fast, internally i suspect as no external oil leak is viewable or pool collects.
  • Vauxhall Zafira - Replacement for a Zafira? 8 Feb 2011 (Forum)
Just before Christmas I had 4 new tyres and a new exhaust.  On Saturday I had new brakes, disks and springs.  On Sunday it died, it looks like it needs a new engine.  So the dilemna.  Do I get a new engine, given all the new bits that i have bought, or do I scrap it and see if I can sell it for parts for a few quid.
  • Citroen Xsara Picasso Exclusive 04 - technical 6 Feb 2011 (Forum)
From question last week, it now appears that rather than having faulty brakes (again) I now need to have gearbox electro valves replaced together with a split pipe in engine air dossier/docker? (can't read his writing so this may not be correct but you will know). Parts are priced at £118.68 and £40.08 respectively which would seem to include VAT if this is any help.
