Was on the A85 earlier, this was near and not sure whether you can even see this but it looks like a pole with a solar panel and then the 30mph speed limit with the camera icon at the bottom. Is this a speed sensor or a camera - www.google.com/maps/@56.328182,-4.3262804,3a,75y,1...2
Also on the A84 and A82 route in general from Sterling to Glencoe via Tyndrum I did not see many cameras along route, apart from the SPECS cameras (I think). No Gatsos, Truvelo combis etc. ... Read more
Yeah I don't think I saw any of those and I suspect that if they did catch you they would have stopped you there and then?
As Andrew-T said, the keeper gets notified by post (within 14 days, I think). In this example it would be the car hire company (I think you said in a previous post you were hiring a car for this trip)....
Hello, I'm looking to buy a used car at around £3500, I was set on waiting for a Mazda 3 or 6 to come up, but I have realised that the boot space may be an issue as I need to be able to travel 2 medium-large dogs and 3 passengers at the same time on occasion. I really like Mazda's reliability, and I'll be disappointed if I have to go with another make, but I'm not sure if I really want to end up with an estate or other larger type of vehicle.... Mostly because of the running costs.
I'm looking at Toyotas but don't know as much about them (or the boot space). I know Honda is good for boot space and reliability but I've driven a 2002 Civic and didn't enjoy it at all so I'm not keen on going with Honda, unless other models are very different.... Read more
Look for a private buy - oldie selling up as he/she has handed back their licence.
Off up to the Western Isles in three weeks with Daughter/Husband and 18mo grandson.
We're both taking and travelling to the ferry in our own cars. Their Octavia Estate and one of ours either Berlingo, as above, or my Fabia Estate. A second car seat, Joie i-spin 360, will be carried so that we can do things together or leave one car at either end of a walk etc. Berlingo is probably better match given its size etc but........ When I think about how many of us kids used to cram into a car before the days of seatbelts and kiddie seats, I wonder how many of us managed to survive.
I lost friends and friends lost limbs before helmets became compulsory....
Just had the VED reminder in the post.

Our 2019 Peugeot 2008 1.2 litre puretech 130 EAT6 was £165 last Oct and will apparently be £180 next.
My 2005 Audi 6.0 litre sport quattro was £360 in Feb. My 'historic vehicle' 1980 2.0 litre TR7 was a big fat O - as usual! ...
I'm going on a 1000 mile road trip in just over a month . Today whilst on a country lane in Essex I hit a huge pothole. Only at 10mph. So deep my car almost sunk in it. Came out to inspect it expecting heavy aesthetic damage but none visible. Now just a rattling noise. Seems to be closest to the front of the car. What could it be, coils snap! Had a brief look under the car and some part of the exhaust looked loose. .. Read more

Has anyone used TyreLeader recently?
Searching for a specific Yokohama tyre (Advan Sport V105 in 195/50R16) showed these in 84V at about £110 (£10 dearer then Blackcircles) but offered the same tyre in 84W at just under £80.
Needless to say I ordered those. Having placed the order I searched again so as to get the link to send to a friend with the same requirement, only to find the 84W listing has disappeared! Have I really bought the last 4, or did they just discover their mistake? Will they arrive? How old will they be? Wait and see time I guess.
A google search for the tyres in 84W revealed that Mytyres is also offering the 84W at £30 less than the 84V.
There does seem to get a proportion of reviews from people who order tyres that turn out to be out of stock, and they are slow to refund, Probably doesn't help that TL is domiciled in Andorra.
I have about 3 weeks left to get the tyres replaced before setting off on a touring holiday. I suppose I can afford to wait a week and see what happens. I'll report back if all goes well. Read more
Just to round this one off, the tyres arrived this afternoon. Although Tyreleader is is domiciled in Andorra, the tyres were dispatched by Eden Tyre Services via the carrier's Nottingham depot. I wonder if TL is some sort of aggregator?
Tyres are fine, as described (84W) and manufactured in week 21, 2022, so not unduly old. Bit of a bargain. at over £80 saving. Tread pattern is identical to the old ones
The old tyres are marked 'OE', which they are of course. But so are the new ones. OE for what, who knows! Hopefully an MX-5.

I only passed my test a couple of months ago and I have been looking to rent a car to do a few road trips - something I obviously have missed out on for many years.
I noticed that virtually every rental company require at least one year of experience as a license holder (and some require you to be at least 25 years old). I was about to give up until I found that Enterprise is the only rental company in the UK that allow you to rent a car regardless of driving experience, as long as you have a clean license and are over 25. ... Ok that's good to know. I've had a look at the route on Google maps and it's fairly straight roads all the way through (with a few bends here and there) and there are plenty of stop off points from Tyndrum to Glencoe actually, or viewpoint stops I think they're called.
Hopefully, not too many caravans given it's not really high season (and not a bank holiday etc.). ...
Hi all, I'd just like a bit of advice please.
On 07/03/2023 I bought a Vauxhall Corsa from a private dealership. I paid £4,400 for the car despite it being a 2010 reg on the premise it was low mileage (22k) and had recent service history and that the dealership would MOT the car and pay for any major faults. They did the MOT with no major faults on 06/03/2023, the day before purchase.... Read more
The law says they can either repair the car and give it back to you free of charge or keep it and give your money back. I would be pushing for the latter
That is clearly the sensible thing to do, as it seems unlikely that a place that turns out dodgy MoT's (assuming it was them) is unlikely to have done serious work to fix the problem....
It’s not possible to give any sort of worthwhile guarantee on a 7yr old van with 80k up, never mind a write-off. Most aftermarket warranties aren’t worth the paper they are (or aren’t) printed on. Spend as much as you can upfront on the best vehicle you can afford.
Also as a wee negative, I’d be very wary of buying a used van at all. As a general rule businesses don’t get rid of commercial vehicles just because they fancy a change, they get rid of them because they’re done, no longer economically viable. The Renault Traffic is not a particular good van either, they suffer from loads of expensive issues particularly engine and gearbox problems.
The best used vans come from large fleets who offload at set times and maintain them well. Ex BT, NHS and possibly AA and RAC. I bought an ex NHS VW Caddy SDi and it was a genuinely good wee van that served me very well. I nearly gave up with looking at used vans at the time as everything I looked at was utter trash and that was with a strong budget at the time.
Unless you absolutely must have one I’d favour a large MPV or estate car instead.
