Couple of years back there were news in mainstream media that motorway speed limit could be raised to 80 MPH.
What happened to that proposal? Why it did not happen? Read more

Well we all love a Cadbury Flake don't we? Well it appears the Ice cream men don't any more. The flakes are too crumbly and falling apart when trying to make your 99. Remember the seductive advert "A sixpence worth of heaven"" well it appears to be all in your lap now!. Since Cadbury was sold all sorts of changes have taken place and the Flake is now made in Egypt would you believe. So I do not know what happened to the "glass and a half" of whole cream milk because I don't think there are many cows in Egypt? Maybe the problem is they are using a substitute milk, camel perhaps? I cannot imagine that Cadbury are shipping gallons of good old British cows milk to Egypt. So just how do you make chocolate in a country with traditionally high temperatures, may be this is the problem and flakes are setting wrong. Whatever Cadbury have assured the Ice cream men that the problem has been sorted.
Now to the real point, how can the world sort out climate change when nothing is made reasonably locally and even food flown or shipped everywhere. Cadbury set up a new facility and ship product to the UK some 2.5 thousand miles and make a profit. Previously made in the UK by employees in the UK. The practice is happening with everything worldwide. So are the efforts to reduce carbon emissions really serious or even directed in the right places. Read more
Everything corporate America touches goes to hell. Best example is in our line of interest, when GM bought (and utterly ruined) Saab. I still remember being stunned by how bad the first GM 9-5 was that I sat in compared to its genuine high quality predecessor the 9000. The interior plastics were awful, the centre console could be shook from side to side by hand. The diesel engines were either rattly chain driven GM 2.2’s or later Fiat 1.9’s neither of which came close to meeting the refinement standards expected of a prestige brand. Jaguar under Ford wasn’t quite so bad, at least the cars drove well. But the quality simply wasn’t there. The X-Type and early S type were actually poorer inside than the Fords they were based on. The X-Type in particular was a less honest and generally poorer car than its Mondeo relative
In the past BL and all the various components including some makes still with us, went for the cheapest supplier.

Hello everyone,
I just got a new car with a complete clean MOT, not a single remark. I bought it on the day of the test. I just got the car now and detected that the left back lights have a electric issue that was detected on the day I bought it but was dismissed as a faulty lightbulb. It seems to be a problem with the electric connection of the all set since they only work sometimes. Then I also detected all this rust that can be seen on the pictures I'll leave below. Shouldn't it be remarked on the MOT? Will this be a problem in the future? Do I have ground to return the car under the costumer rights act 2015?... Read more
I can't see anything that would give me cause for concern given the age of the car. Take a wire brush to it and some rust eater followed by some underseal. I think you're over thinking this.

As for SORN, if it's not going to be driven on the road, then SORN it,
Yes, but remembering that the car has to be genuinely Off-Road.
Following the gadgets we never use thread got me thinking about what I've never had.
My current Astra introduced me to quite a few new ones like sign recognition, cruise, lane assist, hill start, auto wipers and lights, no spare wheel and electric rear windows! But there are so many things I've never had or, in many cases, wanted. From the top of my head:... Read more
Most annoying feature on my car is rain-sensing wipers. Sometimes they go into oberdrive with just a few spots, other times they wait too long to wipe again.
I prefer the manually-selectable timed intermittent wipe then I can choose what speed I want.
Agree with you there - all the automatic ones I have tried have been rubbish.
In the 7 years I've had my current car I haven't used the front fog lights once. As my car has wide, flat dipped beams (in common with many modern cars!) they serve no purpose at all: When I occasionally flick them on and off on a quiet road, I can hardly see any improvement in the front lighting, although they may provide a tad of early warning for any myopic racc***s in the area.
I've only used the horn once or twice in all this time. (Fellow Toyota Auris drivers will understand why.)
Rear seat passengers never seem interested in the central armrest. Perhaps if would attract more curiosity if it held a drinks chiller or the controls for a rocket launcher rather than two dull cupholders. And I don't think I've ever put cups in the cupholders myself.
I'm not taking aim here at drivers of certain German marques and the hackneyed comments about, ahem, indicators, but what other gadgets, accessories or aftermarket gimmicks are generally under-used by the HJ community these days? Read more
In my case, the cigarette lighter, except to plug in the 12-volt tyre inflater. In the 205 it is always live, so no key needed - not the case with the 207.
And that must be something which will never be incorporated in a touchscreen ?
So had a call from the wife this morning, local drunk decided to give the car a good kick just because my wiffe asked if he was ok!

Yes the best bet as Terry says is source a used door of correct model, doesn't matter what colour and ask a body shop to paint and replace. I wouldn't be at all concerned about the match, it will be unnoticeable with modern techniques. I've had several paint repairs in the last decade or so and all have been perfect. They are very talented people. Even my own attempts on our older cars with mixed aerosols have been satisfactory with the latest paints and clear coat . Cost wise I'd guess the door plus 4 to 5 hundred maybe

Oddly enough had the pleasure of seeing one of the most graceful cars ever made IMHO day before yesterday, hadn't seen one for a long time.
2008/9 LS460 glided across the car park, one of the most reservedly handsome cars ever made to my eyes, they ruined the car with the later grill and rear end treatments, but each to their own.

Looks promising, think we will swap my partners car for one of these if the test drive is okay.
My only question is - petrol or wait for a year for the electric version?
As we only tend to keep our cars for the duration of the warranty, will the petrol version still retain 50% of its value by the end of 2026 if Labour get into power and push out ULEZ across the country?
I’m having the same conundrum with my next car. I have been close to pulling the trigger on a new Passat for a few months but concerned we may get a sudden influx of anti car and anti petrol car legislation if Labour win which looks likely.
I don’t want to invest in an asset that the next government is going to considerably devalue.
Anyway, back to the Tourneo courier, if anyone gets any info on expected prices for the petrol and electric versions I would be grateful if you can post them here.
I tried calling our local Ford dealer and got put through to a salesman who didn’t have a clue and kept asking if I am entitled to Motability. There are some seriously under trained dealership staff in this world, it’s not a good look when the customer is more on the ball than the brand representatives.
Maybe I will try a different dealership chain today
