Whilst out today I followed a Tesla with L plates. Got me thinking that there will come a time in the mid to late 2030's when the majority of driving school cars will be EVs and, unless the rules are changed, new drivers won't be able to drive cars with a manual gearbox.
Many first drives at present are older 'bangers' and manual and all those classics which they won't be able to enjoy. Read more
Have noticed more cars, even quite mundane ones without any name/model etc badges lately.

2 quick additions to the topic
1. A friend lives in a more deprived part of Manchester and to prevent his VW Golf GTI from being a target from the local criminals he had it de badged when newly ordered
2. The 20 year old child of a friend has a C1 which he has added all sorts of silly ‘go faster’ tack such as an exhaust extender piece, alloy wheels , stripes, underbody lights, etc
His dad was telling me his most recent addition was a V6 badge!
It’s still the 1.0 petrol underneath!

Father in law is having issues with his 1.6 petrol B Max. It keeps faulting up with the cam shaft fault code P0340. The car starts fine, and it seems to have no effect on how it drives. The fault will also clear itself and not come back for a few days but will then re-appear randomly. I have cleared the alarms, checked the connections, wiring etc but can see no fault. Today I removed both sensors (one at the front I suspect is the cause) and swapped them over to see if the fault moves or not. However, when I removed them there was a dirty metallic mark on both sensors which wiped off easily. Could this be giving false readings? The fault code has all reset so I will have to wait and see what happens.
Does anyone have anymore suggestions before I change the sensor itself?
Any help is much appreciated. Read more
The oil level was checked earlier today and was fine though it did look darker in colour than I expected for a car that has been recently serviced.
Trying to buy second hand alloys. Been told BMW wheels will fit. Anyone know if this is the case and if so any particular models? Read more
And presumably fitting any non-standard wheels will count as a modification, which will need reporting to your insurance company.
My Toyota Yaris ended up too dangerous to drive and I had it SORNed 28/12/2022 with the hope of getting it towed to be looked at once businesses opened up in the new year. I live in a close with a garage in a block separate from my house without a driveway so unfortunately it stayed parked on the kerb way longer than I intended.
Life got busy and I had some health issues to deal with so the car was forgotten about and it was overwhelming to think about anything outside the day to day. On 10/03/2023 my car was clamped and early the next morning before I could pay the penalty it was towed away. I paid for it to be released from the pound, and the gentleman who towed it took it off my hands. ... Read more
It was only clamped and towed once. But was sent 2 notices.
The first one received over 10 days after the clamping but mentioning a date a month earlier when it was spotted unlicensed parked on the kerb. The second notice came after the settlement but mentioned the actual date it was clamped. ...

I'm surprised a low mileage 4 year old Mercedes didn't make it on to the Mercedes approved used scheme?

After any advice or recommendations if anyone can help. Son has finally finished completing all modifications/upgrades to his car and after doing the usual rounds of comparison sites not many results are coming back from them and when they do majority are still coming back with black box insurance over £2500!!
He's 25, full-time plant fitter for a plant manufacturer, lives at home with us, no dependants, has 1 claim from Jan 2019 (Arson so went fault) 4yrs no claims and now expired points from October 2018 and Feb 2019. ... Read more
Agree with others about a broker. The main market insurers like Admiral, Direct Line etc can be very fussy about modifications. One, Admiral I think, wouldn't quote for my 205 GRD because one of the previous owners had replaced the original steering wheel with one form a 205 GTi.

It may be cheap and inferior but whatever it seems that since 2019 the consumer has been paying well over the odds according to the consumer watchdog. Bit late but the truth is there The fact that the stuff is sold in litres and not gallons is the biggest con

I suspect the use of decimal point pricing is that folk simplistically react to the major numbers in the price. 145.9p will always be seen as lower than 146.1p despite that the difference is utterly trivial.
A 0.2p price difference on (say) 30 litres of fuel is 6p. Enough fuel to get 500 yards down the road to the next fuel station??...

Possibly not - let them ride electric scooters and bikes....
