Following the gadgets we never use thread got me thinking about what I've never had.

My current Astra introduced me to quite a few new ones like sign recognition, cruise, lane assist, hill start, auto wipers and lights, no spare wheel and electric rear windows! But there are so many things I've never had or, in many cases, wanted. From the top of my head:... Read more

Most annoying feature on my car is rain-sensing wipers. Sometimes they go into oberdrive with just a few spots, other times they wait too long to wipe again.

I prefer the manually-selectable timed intermittent wipe then I can choose what speed I want.

Agree with you there - all the automatic ones I have tried have been rubbish.

Yes the best bet as Terry says is source a used door of correct model, doesn't matter what colour and ask a body shop to paint and replace. I wouldn't be at all concerned about the match, it will be unnoticeable with modern techniques. I've had several paint repairs in the last decade or so and all have been perfect. They are very talented people. Even my own attempts on our older cars with mixed aerosols have been satisfactory with the latest paints and clear coat . Cost wise I'd guess the door plus 4 to 5 hundred maybe

Oddly enough had the pleasure of seeing one of the most graceful cars ever made IMHO day before yesterday, hadn't seen one for a long time.

2008/9 LS460 glided across the car park, one of the most reservedly handsome cars ever made to my eyes, they ruined the car with the later grill and rear end treatments, but each to their own.

Looks promising, think we will swap my partners car for one of these if the test drive is okay.

My only question is - petrol or wait for a year for the electric version?
As we only tend to keep our cars for the duration of the warranty, will the petrol version still retain 50% of its value by the end of 2026 if Labour get into power and push out ULEZ across the country?

I’m having the same conundrum with my next car. I have been close to pulling the trigger on a new Passat for a few months but concerned we may get a sudden influx of anti car and anti petrol car legislation if Labour win which looks likely.
I don’t want to invest in an asset that the next government is going to considerably devalue.

Anyway, back to the Tourneo courier, if anyone gets any info on expected prices for the petrol and electric versions I would be grateful if you can post them here.
I tried calling our local Ford dealer and got put through to a salesman who didn’t have a clue and kept asking if I am entitled to Motability. There are some seriously under trained dealership staff in this world, it’s not a good look when the customer is more on the ball than the brand representatives.
Maybe I will try a different dealership chain today

My AC has no gas so I’ve turned it off. However, I need to use the car for a week before getting it topped up. Is there a risk of damaging the compressor during this time? The mileage will be kept fairly low.
Thanks

No problem running it, but you need to know why it has no gas. If you don’t and it’s due to a leak a top up may only last a few weeks.

A proper regas will include a pressure test with UV dye added to identify the location of any leaks - if the leak(s) aren't rectified the operator should refuse to add any refrigerant gas.

Sadly, there are some cowboys around....

Well, this is embarrassing.

As a preliminary to gooping up my damaged thread with HT epoxy and tapping it, I inserted the plug as far as it would go (about halfway), put a drinking straw in the centre of the other side, and tamped lightly greased aluminium foil down around it to protect the intact threads from the epoxy.... Aluminium foil is apparently/allegedly and generally about 6 microns, so seems you'd need about 10-12 layers for (arbitrary) equivalence.

It is possible to do an on-line speed awareness course (with others taking part), so the minister could have opted for one, without the need to un-necessarily physically mix with people.

They could have done - but they did not want to be seen by other people and you have to be seen and speak when doing online courses....

Hi folks Sammy here. I am in the doghouse! It really started back at the end of March when 2 crows started to nest at the bottom of my garden. All was reasonably OK with just the occasional visit to the pond and a bit of barking from me voicing my disapproval at the dark shadows moving across. Then earlier last week there were three of the things. One had fledged the nest and was stranded on the ground in my garden. This is quite normal or so my human owners assure me. I had put up with quite a bit already but the sight of this youngster strutting around my garden was too much. I rushed out of the house to see it off. Big mistake! I went charging down my garden after it and suddenly there was all this squawking from above and I was being dive bombed by the parents of the interloper. My worried owners were calling me frantically but what do they know I was in command of the situation. I did not harm the not so little black chick but was just curious as it was hopping along terrified I suppose. Well eventually humandad came out with the lead and escorted me in. So for the last few days a sit at the patio window watching a two legged black crow strut around while it develops its flight feathers and is feed and guarded by its parents. Even the local cats seem afraid of the parents have tried stalking the chick and failed.. But my troubles are not over yet another slightly smaller chick has arrived so two now stand in the garden looking very forlorn like penguins in a blizzard. In this nice weather the back door is shut to exclude me from the garden for my own well being I suppose. Still lots of walks away from home for the time being. I do go out at night into my garden but the chicks must be perched out of reach. May be another chick will appear I hope not so in another week or two things may get back to normal Read more

About a month ago a flung-up stone gave me a 3cm crack right in the middle of the screen, directly in front of the drivers seat (middle of line of vision). I had an MoT booked for a couple of days later. Reading multiple online websites (including the likes of the RAC/AA) the guidance was clear - it'd fail a MoT unless I replaced it first. So I called the garage which was due to do the MoT to postpone the test - the chap in the garage asked why and I explained the circumstances. He said that that online guidance is way out of date, and MoT rules now allow really large cracks without failing, so I went ahead and it passed. I have since then replaced the windscreen, and the excess with LV was £95 [a VW - my other car, a Volvo, has a higher excess for some reason, £140, with the same insurer).

I saw a lovely TR6 yesterday - I had forgotten the smell of uncatalysed fumes as it passed by roof down of course.

its actually rare to find a TR6 or most triumphs that are running correctly, most are tuned to run as smoothly as possible even though to get them to run smooth ish they are running a lot richer than they should be ...
