Scotty Kilmar claims that all Japanese cars are not born equal and the best of the bunch are produced on home territory . Simple things like the quality of the paint and electrical components maybe but is is just the local content that lets cars built outside Japan down ?
But which cars are actually built there . Apart from checking the VIN plate for the first letter starting J it’s hard to tell.... Read more
Had a 2017 Peugeot 3008 GT Line for over 3 years and while it was ok and lots to like, there were issues with the timing belt and some electrical problems and I think its time to move on.
My budget is about £25k max using my car as a trade in. I think I will probably stick to the SUV style (though I am tempted by some estates like the a6 Avant, E-class estate), but my missus likes the higher up driving position and I need to consider her needs too as well as having 2 kids.... The Toyota Verso if you want pure reliability
Saw an aquainatance at the supermarket today with an Aug 2022 white jogger.
Looked good in the flesh, but not sure about the seats.... Read more
No replacement for displacement unfortunately. At least without compromises elsewhere.
Sure there is, sound engineering trumps all regardless of engine size. The problems we hear of surrounding small turbo engines, particularly the 1.0 Ecoboost, are not caused because the engine is small, they are caused by cost cutting.
Japanese manufacturers have been making ultra reliable small engines for donkeys years now, both n/a and forced induction. ...
This is in a 2015 onwards model, digital display. It's showing full, and the predicted remaining range seems to tie in with that - pretty steady, just varies depending on the weight of my right foot.
This is following a very flat battery, for reasons I'm too embarrassed to go into, so various electronic things got lost/reset. I suspect the fuel gauge problem is a consequence of that - needs some sort of recalibration? Or else it's just a broken sensor, and the flat battery is a coincidence.... Read more
BTW I've posed this question on the Mazdaforum website in case it's some Mazda2 specific 'feature'.
Is your driving licence expired if the date on the photocard is expired, or is it just the picture that needs renewing
Ive read if its expired by over 2 years you may need to retake your test does anyone know if thid is true Read more
Under UK law, your driving licence is only valid if it is current and up-to-date. If the date on your photocard has expired, then your driving licence has also expired, regardless of whether the photo needs renewing or not. You must renew your driving licence before the expiry date to ensure that it remains valid.
Our car is shortly due it's 3 year service but the quality of service we've received from our local MG dealership has been very poor. Pre-booked appointments cancelled at short notice, wrong grade of engine oil used at the last service plus poor communication.
The car has a 7 year warranty (some parts are obviously excluded) which requires that the vehicle is serviced by an MG dealer.... Read more
Spark plugs at second service must be quite unusual, isn't it? My Toyota didn't require the plugs out until 60,000 miles. Mind you, they were startlingly expensive when the time came around!

Generally I use the house vacuum cleaner, it's such a palaver. Now looking to get a cordless one for the car. What do people use/recommend? Read more
A friend used to sell shampoo vacuums door to door. He said the demonstration always impressed folk when they saw the filthy water being tipped out, in many cases sealing the deal (and his commission) He told me that the water was always a brownish colour even when used on a new carpet due to the chemicals and dye in the carpet fibres!
Second car I bought (Triumph 1300 at BCA, Leeds) I took the carpets out and trampled them in the bath with washing powder. An unbelievable amount of filth came out and I was quite surprised to see they were red (matching the seats) not brown.
Like I said above, carpets are an insanitary b***** nuisance....
